Two Excel Questions
Greg Rhodes <gkrhodes@...>
Question 1: If a sighted user wants to format all the
cells in column C, he would click on the letter C at the top of the column to
highlight all the cells in that column. How do you do that with
NVDA?
Question 2: What is the NVDA command to get to the
worksheet listing at the bottom of the page? Once you get there, I know that you
use the Control/Page Up or Down to move between worksheets you have
created.
Thanks.

table problems with microsoft word
enes sarıbaş
hi,
I was working on a file where everything was as a table. Nvda was lagging significantly and I wrote my information under the various headings. However, my sighted friends who reviewed my file said the table slipped badly and that all the writing had slipped outside of the page. They hardly could read my file. However, I have no problem reading the file except lag. How is this possible? How can I fix this document and prevent this from happening in the future.

I've reported the problem to Reece, developer of Espeak NG. Who wants to contribute with Espeak NG, just read the note below for Access the Espeak NG list. * Dear ESpeak-NG users, developers, and other beneficiaries, At the outset, let me sincerely thank Reece for appointing me as a moderator of this Groups.io based next generation mailing list for official discussion regarding the ESpeak-NG speech synthesizer. Also, I would like to express my gratitude towards everyone who joint the e-mail list via invites sent out on different forums, direct invites, word-of-mail (not mouth :D) and also for those who have begun contributing by spreading the word about this project and its community, and by participating in it. Following are some fundamental statistics that highlight the current status of this group: Member Count: 11 Group Owner: Reece H. However, our vision for this group must extend beyond not only encompassing this in ESpeak-NG's next generation e-group, but also having a prolific and proactive community of users and developers in constant communication and interaction via this list. ESpeak-NG powers the speech synthesis of two popular screen readers by default - NVDA for Windows and Orca for Linux - which in turn fuel computer access for tens of thousands of visually impaired individuals across the globe. Let us recognize the significance of this open source project, and accordingly strive to mobilize its users, developers and other beneficiaries as part of this e-mail platform. Please do spread the word about this mailing list and ask your fellow ESpeak users to join the list by sending a blank mail to espeak-ng+subscribe@groups.io And send a blank reply to the confirmation prompt subsequently received. In conclusion, I hope to dutifully serve as a moderator of this mailing list in a just manner, and I shall try to the best of my abilities to assist Reece in ensuring smooth functioning of this e-group, in constant anticipation of your continued collaboration. Accessible IRC clients
Sukil Etxenike <sukiletxe@...>
Hi,
Does anyone know of an IRC client that is accessible with NVDA and notifies the user of incoming messages on all channels? I know that Thunderbird doesn't do that when the window is focused, and that Instantbird does it but is somewhat cluttered and really old. Also, chatzilla seems to do a good job, but sound doesn't seem to work. Any corrections / alternatives? Thanks! Sukil

Re: accessible email clients with NVDA
Because JAWS is the only screen reader that will
work with it, silly. NVDA can't get past the adding mail
accounts. One can make it work by switching from JAWS TO NVDA,
but why bother? They do not care aout accessibility issues, in
my opinion.

Some questions about eSpeak-ng and MBrola
Christo de Klerk
Hello all
I have been using MBrola with the old eSpeak for many years and would like to get it going under eSpeak-ng now I am using NVDA as my screen reader. I have looked at the eSpeak-ng documentation and I think I have copied all the necessary MBrola files into their correct places, but I can't get MBrola activated under NVDA. I select espeak-ng as my synthesiser, then I go to Voice preferences and I see mb-en1 listed there, in the list of voices, but it is the usual eSpeak-ng en voice that keeps talking. How do I get mb-en1 to talk? Then another question. MBrola tools has this confirmation dialog that keeps popping up every first time it is run after a reboot. Has anyone found a way to get that out of the way? It causes havoc, as it pops up before there is any speech. I see there is now a Windows installation of eSpeak-ng. Would it upset the old installation of eSpeak at all if one were to install eSpeak-ng? I don't want to break anything that ain't broke. I see the eSpeak-ng documentation is in a .md format. What does one use to read .md files? Sorry for all the questions, but I am new to espeak-ng and would like to get a grip on it. I have worked with the old eSpeak and have done dictionary development for many years. Kind regards Christo

I haven't used JAWS or Outlook express for
years. Perhaps JAWS does announce this and I don't recall. As you
say, NVDA doesn't and NVDA isn't user definable in ways that you can change this
behavior. It would require something like a command in a script to cause
this behavior.

Re: accessible email clients with NVDA

Regarding Outlook Express losing mail, I'm not sure
to what extent this happens when saving mail in most folders. it happens
enough to be a real potential problem when people save what I have called
ridiculous amounts of mail in the inbox. I should clarify that that is
what I meant, though I have seen a number of people who have had corrupted
deleted messages folders over the years. But what the percentage of users
is that has this problem is something I don't know.

I don't know why you say that Live Mail is bug
ridden. I said recently that some people have crashing problems with it
but many people don't and use the program without problems.
As far as Outlook Express is concerned, on another
list I follow, some people have had problems with it and the problems persisted
regardless of what they did to solve them. I don't recall what they are
now but I'm saying that if the program works well for you, fine. If not,
you may not be able to get it to work as it should.

Just like in xp. this was an nvda hooking in bug and still is one supposes. It would be wrong to alter the program, probably illegal as well, as it is not public domain though it is so ubiquitous I doubt anyone who has had a computer for a few years does not have it. I use it and am happy to donate the money to get the latest versions of the trick routines. Its nothing that has not been done before and as OE was always given for free, nobody gets hurt. I fear I have to give this warning though. It was originally designed for windows 7, and although it will work on 10, when a new build of windows installs it will be broken as Microsoft sees it as an old bit of left over software and bungs it in the old system folders it keeps for a bit when you do the update, so you need to make sure you have all things backed up before you let Windows 10 use its creators update or whatever its going to be called. Unfortunately, having looked at the email client on 10, its all a bit basic and live mail is still bug ridden, Tbird needs a whole lot of learning for its shortcut keys, so people who want to use a client I think are badly served by the current bunch of software. All too many assume email is now only used on smart phones or online interfaces which is not my experience. Brian. PS you get three keys with your donation.
