The thing about Jarte is that to open docx files it needs the purchased
version as far as I know. OOpen and Libra Office seem to be able to load in
docx files, but as has been discussed here of late, the authors need to do
some more work to allow screenreaders to work on all parts of them like
read
all etc.

Of course it might be possible to find an old copy of an older version of
Office pro corporate which I did and it still worked aand accepted the key.
Legal? Well, its a grey area isn't it. if the original buyer is giving it
away, then who cares.

Subject: [nvda] accessible word processors with NVDA

Hi,

My computer's keyboard's been acting up, and I have my Mum's as a
backup, but it doesn't have Microsoft Office on it, and I was wondering
if there was a decent free word processor out there, accessible with
NVDA, that I could install on that computer instead. It would be nice if
it could read and edit .docx files, but I'm aware I can't have
everything.

The most used features in Word for me are:

The Spellchecker, including a whole dictionary of words I've added so
Pokémon names, anime characters' names and names I just made up don't
get flagged;

The word-counter;

Page-breaks;

Headings (mostly for aesthetic reasons).

If there's something out there that does all these things, and is free
and accessible, I'll be pretty happy with it.

Re: when on a web page nvda doesn't select a link

Dennis L <dennisl1982@...>

I should note this issue occurs only with Internet explorer 11 and I tested with the exact search engine in Firefox the same search and NVDA behaved as I expected.  I landed on the link hit enter it opened.  This wasn’t the case when using Internet Explorer.  Again the search engine and search were the exact same.

However you turn it off, it will remain off if you save the settings or use the default setting of having NVDA save the settings on exit.  All settings changes done through NVDA short cut commands can be made permanent in the same way as when made in the menus and dialogs.  It's the same change however it's made.  Saving the settings will make it permanent in either case.

Hi

I am wondering if it changed the sound source to your headset? If this is the case you can try the following if nvda is running but you can not hear him speaking.

Press the ctrl + nvda key + the letter S. this will bring up your synth settings.

When it comes up press the letter E so you can get back to the E speak synth.

Then you will need also to change the output  This is only one tab after the synth settings. press the letter M to get to microsoft sound mapper.

Then there will be audio ducking tab once more to the ok button and you should be right to go.

I Have even tried running it as an administrator.

The issues seem to have started after I installed a Bluetooth speaker, an Anker but I have now uninstalled this from the device manager and allso in control panel, view devices and deleting it there.

Re: NVDA doesn't always see buttons on a web page

Gene

you are using an inefficient procedure.  Just be in forms mode, type what you want to search for, then press enter.  When the results page loads, NVDA automatically goes back to browse mode.  You don't have to change it manually.  When you are in forms mode and in a google edit field and this is generally true on sites with search features, the sites are designed so that pressing enter while in the search field activates the search button.  You don't have to move to it. And when new pages load, using NVDA default settings, you are returned to browse mode automatically.

the play button may be a control in a Flash player. Try going to the
page,
then make sure you are at the top, Type the letter o and see if you land
on
an embedded object. Press enter and try tabbing and shift tabbing. Do
you
see any buttons? Also, if that doesn't work, start over. Close and
reopen
the browser, go to the web page again, make sure you are at the top then
type o to move to the embedded object. Now route the mouse to the
current
location of the object navigator with the command numpad insert numpad
slash, the same key as for left click.

Now press numpad slash by itself to left click the embedded object. Does
the file start to play?

Remember two things when following these instructions for working with
the
mouse. First, before starting the second set of instructions, make sure
you
are in object review. Issue the command numpad insert numpad 1. If you
hear somethin like no previous review, you will already be in object
review.
If you hear something that isn't object review but some other review,
continue to issue the command until you get to object review.

Remember not to press enter on the embedded object.

And one more thing:

When I said to start over and close the browser, then open it and go to
the
page again, I did so to avoid any possible problems. I wanted you to
start
from the beginning so we both knew exactly what you were doing. But when
not learning from these instructions, you don't have to do that. You
can,
as I recall, return to the page by using a book mark without closing the
browser first. That will save you time. But if you can't get the file
to
play, you can try closing the browser first to see if that makes any
difference. you can't get the file to play, you can close the browser, as
I
said initially.
