Hi Jim, Which version of NVDA do you have? If you are using 2016.4, this may explain why you’re not getting what you are looking for. Cheers, Joseph

Re: A Couple More Word Quesions
Hi Kelby,
But to answer your questions:
Moving quickly to misspelt words can be done with alt+f7. This jumps to the next misspelt word and automatically opens the context menu which contains alternative words. The issue with this is that you don't automatically see what the misspelt word itself is. If you press escape you can close the context menu and the focus goes back to the document with the focus on the misspelt word so you can read the text around the word.
Right clicking on a word is most easily done by simply moving the focus to the word and pressing the applications key. This works exactly the same as right clicking on the word and you can see either alternative words if Word thinks it's misspelt, or synonyms otherwise. You can close task panes - some task panes have their own keystroke - for instance, press control+alt+shift+s to open the styles task pane, and close it using the same keystroke. For most though, ensure the focus is on the task pane, press control+spacebar and choose close (press C).
Note that you can also use SHIFT+F6 to move through open panes and sections of the window in reverse order.
Regards Quentin.

Also, how do you route the mouse to a specific word so that you can
right clock on the word to see i.e. the thesaurus? I've tried this

2. Is there a way to get rid of the editing/proofing toolbar when

Re: NVDA and the Nano text editor
Well to be honest I am waiting for the orbit, the braigo or the invision displays or other new tech units to make it here. I don't mind paying 600 bucks for a simple device to read the screen with, but till one comes out well. The orbit seems likely, a lot of people worked with this including people here in nz so it should be interesting.

I do not use MS Office, but are the endnotes at the end of the document, or at the end of each chapter?
If the former, might it be possible to find the first reference in the text, move to the first note and highlight them all Once highlighted you could try copying them to a new document. This should let you read them. A little cumbersome, if it works, but this is what I did on the Mac using Nisus Writer Pro.

The only thing I think is that this leaves the notes at the end of the document as regular text (so you could easily copy to plain text or another
format which may not support Word's footnotes). I suspect what you were after was something that put the footnotes in the middle of the text where
the reference was?
One thing you could do, is to create a macro to do it. On the view menu (alt+w) is a macro option (m). From here you can record a macro, which once started, will "record" every keystroke you press until you turn recording off. While recording, you can move to the next footnote (alt+s,
o, n) then jump to the notes area (alt+s, h) select and copy the note, move
back to the main text, and paste the text from the footnote, perhaps in brackets.
Although I don't have an immediate need for it personally, I'll be interested to see if anyone else comes up with a good solution to this.
Kind regards

Re: NVDA and the Nano text editor
Hi Travis
Ah okay well let's try this.
Before we start, I should say that I am using the Windows Linux Sub System. If you think this may be the problem, I would appreciate your advice on what else I should use please.
I have just tried to navigate backwards by word with Meta Space. As the cursor moves backwards NVDA does not read the words that cursor passes over as it does in the GUI. But once i move with the arrow keys NVDA reads the letters normally. Thanks for any help Best James

Re: NVDA question regarding Mac Keyboard
Travis Siegel <tsiegel@...>
I've used apple specific keyboards on windows machines, and I've used windows keyboards on the mac, the only difference is the windows/apple keys. And, on mac, you can swap the functions of those keys easily enough. I say again, keyboard origin has no impact on usability.

Hello, Not to be contentious or anything, but the apple bluetooth keyboard sited by hecter is made by apple specifically for apple products.
Hecter, your keyboard uses fn plus right arrow for end, making the required keystroke nvda + fn + shift + right arrow. The apple bluetooth keyboard is very minimalist, but as some one else said, you can use nvda + 1 to press key combinations and see what they do.
If you have a little money to spend, you can also install VMware fusion and virtualize your bootcamp partician. You can then use karabiner to add aditional functionality to your apple keyboard including a built in number pad and assignments for keys such as the application context key.
This is the setup I used when I owned a mac.
Sorry I missed this when it first came out. I'll keep my eye on the thread in case any one else has questions.

Hi Hector,
You mention this keyboard doesn't have an END key - do you need to press another key as well - I know on a lot of smaller than full size keyboards, they include a "Fn" key - on Windows keyboards it's usually near the bottom left, and to get to some functions / keys you need to press that with another key. So if END is actually on the down arrow, you might need to press NVDA+SHIFT+FN+DOWN ARROW?
As Sukil said, try it in Input Help mode (press NVDA+F1) and see what that reads out. That should confirm you have the correct keystroke, and also some keyboards may not let you press more than two or three keys at once.
Finally, with the status bar, check that the program you are using actually has a status bar, as not all do. If the program you are in doesn't have a status bar, NVDA should still report "No status line found."

Quentin.

I am sorry that I was not more specific on my earlier post. I am running boot camp on a 2012 iMac, so I do not have the touch bar. When I press NVDA + 1 to enter "Input Help" I get the following message, "NVDA + Shift + right arrow moves the navigator object to the next object." On my Mac I use the FN key with the right arrow to perform the key stroke to simulate the "End" key. When I press just the FN + right arrow, when in input help, I get the message, "end". So I know that the latter key combination works. I wonder if it will only take certain keys at once. If so, besides using Sharp keys, is there another work around anyone knows of? I hope this clarifies any questions you may have. Thanks again, Hector On Mon, Feb 6, 2017 at 2:41 AM, James AUSTIN <james.londonsw15@...> wrote: Hi again folks

For other Windows key bindings, there is I think an app called Sharp Keys.

A Couple More Word Quesions
Sorry for asking so many of these; maybe I should buy the book.
1. Is there any way to quickly move to misspelled words in the document by quick keys or does one have to use f7 to go to the toolbar? (This is another thing NVDA might not do that JAWS can.) Also, how do you route the mouse to a specific word so that you can right clock on the word to see i.e. the thesaurus? I've tried this with object navigation but I'm not getting anything?
2. Is there a way to get rid of the editing/proofing toolbar when you're done with it so you don't have to push f6 so many times when moving between panes?
