Yes, I wrote to them a couple of years ago, and the answer sounded more or less like "we can't be bothered".

I wouldn't waste my time with devs likethose.

If you want a fair alternative to Whatsapp, try Signal.

When I last used it, it was very accessible. It's a lot more private, and Whatsapp themselves use the encryption system developed by the devs of Signal...

If Telegram can't be bothered with us, why bother with them?

Hi Chris

There is no such thing as  a silly question. I will respond more fully off-list if you like, but in this instance, my question refers to looking up references once you have them.

Thank you for your note about Word. I did not know this..

I shall write you with a more complete answer off-list.

Take care

James

Question about Open office.

Nika Tsiklauri

Hi everyone! I have a question for which I couldn't find the workaround. When I am creating a autotext in Open Office, I can't open the autotext menu button. NVDA says:
Autotext menu button collabsed.
When I press the spacebar or enter key to expand it, nothing happens. Even if I press tab key, I hear system beep. I need to choose from That menu command new. Any ideas how t do this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Attach to email

Christopher-Mark Gilland <clgilland07@...>

There are way too many variables in this to fairly be able to answer correctly at this point in time.

For example, What website are you using? What type file format are you using, and is that filetype supported by the website? What version of Windows are you running, and finally, this so called website you're using, is it a webmail based system, or is it just a website in general you're trying to attach a file to? You said e-mail, so I'm assuming! it's a webmail type thing.

What e-mail client are you using for this purpose?

Chris.

You are evidently using a web site to send e-mail.  You don't tell us which one.  What you are describing is not the standard way such dialogs work.  I assume that after you press the add attachment button, a dialog comes up.  If so, shift tab once or if necessary twice.  You will be in a list of folders and files as you are in My Computer.  Move back through the list with the back space.  Move forward by pressing enter on something such as a folder.  Find the file you want and press enter.

I've almost never added an attachment using a web site but that should be all you have to do.  As I said, I've almost never done this but I believe that you will have to allow time for the attachment to upload, if it is at all large.  I haven't done this enough to know if you are notified on the page when the attachment has finished uploading.

I thought the idea was to download it itself and install it itself.

Hello all, I think today was a good day for NVDA, it's developers, it's community, and well, modest little oll me.

I'm expecting to be hired by a company that does business to business technical support. Today, they finally brought me in for my first consultation. Six weeks ago, I registered my need for a screen reader by way of accomodation, and recommended jaws and NVDA to be tested for compatibility with the company's software. This morning, when I arrived for my consultation, I found the company had opted for NVDA.
They sited significant performance breaks over jaws, and the fact that they have python programmers on staff to handle scripting as reasons for choosing NVDA as well as the fact that I had stated a preference for using it.

This morning I demonstrated that NVDA could be successfully used with sales force, a ticketing and databasing system commonly used by telecom companies. There are some design issues with sales force that need to be worked out, but things are very close to being fully accessible out of the box. If any one has experience using sales force, It would be great to hear from you.

The people I spoke with this morning were very receptive to the openness of NVDA, and so I hope that when their implementation goes into effect, they will contribute to the NVDA community accordingly.

So, it's not perfect yet, but all in all I have had a pretty successful day thanks to NVDA.

Have fun,

Erik

Citation management and NVDA

James AUSTIN

Hello everyone

Apologies for asking this on list, I really should have done the research myself, but I thought asking her may be quicker.

I am looking for a citation/reference manager that works with NVDA. Preferably, it should be free and open source, as well as provide support for BibTeX citations. For those of you who use, or have used Mac OS, I would like to know if there is anything similar to BibDesk. Also, I am not sure about the current state of accessibility with Zotero, so maybe this could be an option?

Any and all thoughts welcome.

Thank you

James

On a slow computer, I had slow performance when typing e-mails on a webmail site until I turned check for spelling errors off in Firefox.  This sounds as though it may be an analogous situation.

Hello kelby,

I experienced something like this in Outlook 2016.  The problem came from
having spelling checked as I typed.  In outlook 2016, I went to alt+f,
options, e-mail, editor options, and unchecked "check spelling as you type".

What I was experiencing was as I typed, the new e-mail message became less
responsive for arrow keys, and movement in general.  This happened in JAWS
18.  Spelling errors, and perhaps web links, caused the whole writing
process to become slower and slower.

It depends on whether you have save on exit set as the NVDA behavior.  Save on exit is the default and I strongly believe it shouldn't be but it is.  If you change a setting in NVDA, it will be saved on exit.
