f I could find a brouser that works aswell as webie does
then and only then would I change brousers. You should not have
to jump through the hoops just to find your progress if it does
read it. Webie just reads the progress when your download starts
no need to go and find it. No other brouser can do that. Brian SackriderOn 2/28/2017 6:56 PM, Rosemarie Chavarria wrote:

I haven't tried google chrome for downloading yet. As far as webbie, if internet explorer is going away, that means webbie will too. That's why it's good to have more than one browser. Don't stay stuck on webbie because it could be gone in a year or two.

Why are we stuck with only one brouser that will read progress bars/? It looks like nvda still has some work to do to make more brousers more accessable. I don't like firefox because it's way to slow. Webie will alwaysbe the bestbrouser for the blind. Why is it so hard to make brousers that read the progress bars? If we are going to change brousers then we need to have more accessable brousers that will do what we them to do. Brian Sackrider

The discussion has moved into areas of illegal
use. Please stop this part of the thread. If legal uses continue to
be discussed, I won't close the thread but if discussions of how to circumvent
DRM continue, I shall close it. Illegal uses of software are not allowed

Yes but you can use codex to remove drm, you then can convert the resultant epub to whatever you want.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
It won't work on an epub player after conversion it will be corrupted but you should be able to convert that to another format but codex was able to do it straight it doesn't just use calibre for everything.

Re: reading progress down loads in google chrome

That's why I say that for many purposes other than
browsing, Firefox is a better choice. I don't want almost everything
displayed as web pages from settings to history. I don't know how it is
for sighted people, but for blind people, this is somewhat cumbersome.
Also, awhile back, Chrome stopped honoring quick browsing commands in the
settings interface which is a web page interface. Has this been
corrected? What this means is that you can't, for example, make a change
and then use the letter b to jump to the done button. You have to tab
through all the rest of the settings.
It may be that for a lot of browsing, Chrome is
faster or somewhat faster. I haven't compared, thogh I've seen a few
people say it is. But one reason I still use firefox as my main browser is
to avoid having so many interfaces be rendered as web pages.

Re: reading progress down loads in google chrome

Do you mean download with Firefox instead of
Chrome? It sounds as though the progress bar isn't accessible in
Chrome. How much does it matter? If it's a long download, checking
off and on should give you a pretty good idea of whether it is getting near the
end. In addition, to hear progress bars when downloading, you have to
leave the computer in the download window which means that you can't use the
computer while the download is in progress. It seems more trouble than
it's worth.

I wonder then what on earth I may be doing wrong
along with others.
I don't doubt you in the least, but it's clear that
I'm doing something wrong apparently. One finger gesutres work maybe 75% of the
time, but add any more fingers, forget it!
If it helps, this is a Microsoft Surface 3. not a
pro, just a plain old Surface 3. Also beware, not a surface 4. Just a 3 running
Win10 Home 64 bit.
I should add that I've tried with Narrator, and
though I don't understand all the narrator gestures, I can! tell you that they
do seem to consistently work, just not with NVDA, nor JFW.
Chris.

There's plenty of folks not using windows 10 yet, and if NVDA is to stay compatible with those users, rolling the entire functionality of the addon into NVDA would require a whole lot of if statements in lots of places to ensure it was running on windows 10 before trying different functionality. I'm guessing that's the main reason it's an addon at this point.

Heh, I'm one of those who would report the touch gestures work just fine. :)

I have a windows 8.1 machine and NVDA touch gestures do indeed work just fine. There's one gesture that isn't in the documentation, (don't remember which one, though I did report it here), but otherwise, I can work with the gestures just fine. I don't use them often, but they do come in handy for certain tasks, or if I don't feel like turning on my wireless keyboard for just a couple quick and simple things.
