Re: prevent pages from refreshing
Pete <emac00@...>
I went to http://www.rick.com/ and the page is not refreshing for me. is there a particular place on the page wear it is refreshing? I am not getting the refreshing thing. I only spent five minutes or so reading parts of the page using h to navigate by headings then insert + down arrow to read down. Pete

This google inbox only works with google rite? Main stream clients should be are focus rather than proprietary e-mail solutions.

I see no problem with NVDA. I recommend you go onto google and
search for about:config that can help improve firefox performace and
that pretty helps.

Hi, I would like to know if anyone have used XAMPP and Wamp Server with NVDA. Do anyone do if one of them are accessible? Thanks.

Microsoft isn't necessarily retrofitting it.
When Edge was released, it wasn't complete and at least one review and I would
imagine more, state that it is not finished yet and that it will be a good
browser when it is but that it still has rough spots currently.

Firefox Quick update: It gets stranger still. After updating to the Canary
version of Chrome, I get the message "unknown" repeatedly, easily five or more
times, every time I navigate using a link or url. Also, using the arrow keys in
focus mode on inbox.google.com announces
the element I am leaving, not the one I am navigating to. Observed on two
systems. Back to IE it is, at least until MS lets us use Edge. Why in the case
of Edge they regard accessibility as something to retrofit into a product once
everything else is dealt with is anyone's guess. It's more expensive this

Some issues with Windows 8.1
Hey everyone, While using NVDA on my Surface 3 running Windows 8.1, I noticed the following issues. 1. From time to time NVDA won't announce the item selected in File Explorer. 2. From time-to-time NVDA won't read items on the start screen (I actually posted about this back on freelists). 3. In the Command Prompt, NVDA reads all commands character-by-character, which is very annoying. Is there fixes for the above issues? For the start screen issue I can use Classic Shell, but when I try typing a folder to open, E.G Downloads, it is usually not placed on the top of the search result, unlike with Windows 7's start menu where folders like 'Downloads' are placed on the top of the search result.

Hello list! Regarding Hangouts, has anyone found a way to get rid of the random announcement of lots and lots of timestamps?

Hi, Have you tried NVDA + p? Using this shortcut, you can set thepunctuation level ... Most and all are the relevant in this case. Best

Re: Performance degradation in current Firefox
Felix G.
Hi! Accessibility-wise, Chrome remains out of the question for me. I type an URL and hit enter, and the website will not be navigated to automatically by the screen reader. I have to do NVDA+F5 and sometimes tab, f6 and such. It's hit or miss, and more miss than hit. Others, strangely enough, seem blissfully unaffected by all this while I keep running into it on every system. Whatever it is I'm doing wrong, it seems difficult to pin down. Suggestions appreciated, though.Seems we're headed for a browser crisis. Kind regards,

Yes, I have experienced it, too. I do not know whether Jaws users
have been experiencing it, too. It would be good to compare both the
screen readers with regard to Mozilla Firefox, so that an issue
concerning this may be considered, and it may also be found out
whether the issue comes from either NVDA or Jaws, or even Mozilla
Firefox itself.

Any ideas on how do I make nvda read all the punctuation during say all or while reading line by line? I need it as while coding, it doesn't reads all the punctuation marks when I read line by line, so I have to move character by character, and that takes a lot of time. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Cheers, Ajay

Re: google hangouts on the computer using nvda

If you use it with Chrome and NVDA, it's actually quite easy. I've done it several times, and haven't had any issue. In fact, if you google the phrase
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Google hangout shortcut keys There is a whole list of commands you can use while in your browser using Hangouts. Another way to get there is to disable browse mode within NVDA, then press shift slash, which will basically therefore be the questionh mark key. Then, hit ctrl+end to scroll to the bottom of the screen, and go up from there. You should see a little window that popped up with all the keystrokes. I think they call this a mobile window in html5. Note, that little trick works on most Google based sites like docs, sheets, Drive, gmail, etc. --- Christopher Gilland JAWS Certified, 2016. Training Instructor. clgilland07@...
