Re: Caps lock key not working as insert key

Chris Mullins

There are in fact a couple of task bar related windows commands.  Windows+t puts focus on the currently running apps and task bar pinned items.  Windows+b puts focus on the system tray which contains apps running in the background.  Here you can press enter on the Notification chevron button to open  the overflow area, which lists background items that don’t fit on the system tray.  You will find the NVDA icon in the system tray or it’s overflow area and you can press enter on it to display the NVDA menu.  This means you can access the NVDA menu without having to use the NVDA key to do so.

Cheers

The task bar, which it sounds as though you are talking about is gotten to with the command Windows key b.  I doubt this has changed in Windows 10.

Also, if you are going to use the task bar icon, you either have to use the context menu key to open the menu or the rough equivalent, shift f10.

I didn't think of the task bar option but it's good to keep in mind just in case it's needed for some reason.

I haven't installed NVDA for a long time and I didn't know about the dialog.  But it still is very important to know where the actual insert key is especially if you don't have a numpad.
There are very commonly used commands that are very inconvenient to use with the caps lock option.  Read title bar is one, find in browse mode is another, and announce formatting is a third.  I expect there are others, perhaps many others that I haven't thought of.

when NVDA is running press the nvda key + letter N, then arrow down to

the options there to view the current log and also save it to a place
where it is easier to find. mine is set for the desk top but this will
only be for the current log.

when NVDa is restarted it will replace it with a new log and if i
remember right there was a place where the old log would be I have had
no reason to look for it for a long time. The file was called like
nvdalog.old or something.

there is also a add on that will save both the current log and the old
log to a certain area i think it can be found on the nvda add ons page.

Did you save your configuration after you checked those boxes? with nvda
key + ctrl key + letter C

I have a few computers here running windows 10 they all start with nvda

version of NVDA is nvda 2017.1 with the anniversary version of windows 10.

If you want it also on the log on screen all so check the one under it

Now it will start up nvda when windows does and also do the log on

If a standard jack is being used, there are no settings. Either the headphones work or they don't. The first thing to do is test with other headphones or with some other way of sending a signal to something using a patch cord and the same jack, such as to an amplifier or tape recorder or powered speakers.

The problem may not be the jack itself, it may be a driver problem or some other problem I may not know enough to consider but there are no settings in such a case.

There is only two possible scenario that could not output a sounds or
audio to your headset. First, you need to double-check the settings of
the playback to ensure that your default output device is the headset
you use. And, lastly, the headset you plug in is not properly inserted

Have you tested the headphones  work Ok by plugging into another device such as a radio?  Also if you haven’t used the front earphone socket before try testing it by plugging speakers into it and checking they work OK.  I have a friend who has a problem with the front socket due to the internal circuit board being slightly mis-aligned with the outer case.
