What difficulties? What version of
Windows? At this point, we don't know if these difficulties are the result
of changes in the Windows interface or if they are the result of something else
that should be looked into such as malware. a hardware problem or something else
I may not know enough to discuss.

In any version of Windows, as far as I know, you
can hold the Windows key and type r. then wait a moment and type narrator
and press enter.

I guess it depends whic way you start NVDA from the thumb drive and on which operating system.
The older xp system i think it was you could plug it in and a auto play menu would come up with start nVDA but in later versions this was stopped.
it also depends if you done it on a CD if the auto play menu was enabled or not.
I do have some different ways on my website along with any extra files that might be needed. The extra files were more for the auto play menu part of windows.
The steps were either done using a Windows 7 machine and i think on windows 10 as well.
the link to the pages where the audio or written tutorials are can be found at http://accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20audio%20tutorials.html You can jump down by heading to the portable tutorials. there are a few different ones to pick from.
I like the one where you name the usb stick qqq then make a folder on the usb stick called nvda then have all the files put into it.
if you get stuff on a new machine you can always bring up narrator to start your copy of nvda as well.
I am so used to starting a computer without narrator i have got used to it.
Any how have a sus and look for the ones that say portable.
They are easy to follow.

There is more than one way to make a portable copy
of NVDA. Here is one way. I am assuming that NVDA is already
installed on your machine.
Major new steps start on new lines.
First, create a folder in which you want to install
NVDA.
Then, while NVDA is running, open the NvDA menu
with NVDA key n.
Down arrow to tools.
Press enter. You are now in a submenu.
Down arrow to create portable copy and press
enter.
You are now in a dialog.
Tab to the browse button and press
enter.
If you don't know how to work with the dialog you
are now in, ask here.
Open the folder you have created to place NVDA
in.
Then continue to make the portable copy. Look
around the dialog and if you have questions, ask here.
Once yu have made the portable copy, copy the
folder you created onto the thumb drive.
Or cut it to the thumb drive, whichever you
wish.
To run NVDA from the thumb drive, connect the thumb
drive to the machine you want to run it on. Have Narrator running before
you connect the thumb drive. If you don't know how to run Narrator, ask
here.
Once Narrator is running, find the folder that
contains NVDA on the thumb drive. Open the folder.
Look for NVDA.exe and press enter. You will
probably just here nvda but not exe.
NVDA will run. I don't know if you will be asked
anything first such as if you want to run the file. I don't think
so.
Then close Narrator. It will cause no problem to
have NVDA and Narrator running simultaneously so close Narrator and continue
running NVDA.

Yes you can use NVDA on a thumb drive. Someone can better answer your question on here. I think you can do it as long as you have the drive on that computer you are using.

Also, I don't think forwarding the message would change it but I would suggest forwarding it to yourself. We need to rule out the possibility that the original doesn't read properly in your program using NVDA but the forward may for some reason. there are too many unknown variables to draw even tentative conclusions now.

I can read it in other ways. I can read it just fine in Window Eyes. Because of my email others have now confirmed they can read it in thunderbird. I don’t want to change to text email because then links and other formatting become broken when we do that. Meaning it stripps photos etc. if you forward those emails to others you have completely destroyed the look/feel of a message.
My main goal is to provide duplicatable results that might help improve NVDA’s ability to deal with such content.

Yes. Try reading it in other ways. I don't use Outlook but as I recall, there is an option to read the message in a browser. You may also be reading mail as html. If you change to read messages in plain text, you may be able to read it. I don't know if this is still the case, but for quite some time, some html messages weren't read correctly in Outlook for technical reasons.

It also depends on your system as well. I hope I’m wrong! For some Elequence may respond quickly while for some it’s slow to respond! I have it in jaws 14 and I use E speak for NVDA. Now, Mind you I don’t have Jaws 18 but if it responds no problem then you may have a good system. I could be lying!

There is a known issue with Code Factory Eloquence with NVDA. I have seen several complaints from NVDA users on other lists than this which complain of the extreme delay with NVDA loading with Code Factory Eloquence. This caused some to recommend using the illegal NVDA Eloquence addon as an alternative which drew an angry response from the person retailing Code Factory Eloquence in this country.
If was from this person retailing the Code Factory product in this country that I learnt the tip of amending sound properties in the Control Panel as a partial solution to the slow loading. He in turn had got this advice from Code Factry as I understand it.
Presumably as not all people have the same configurations in their Sound Control Panel applet the experience of people experiencing this delay may well vary.

The way I see it, code factory's eloquence uses the same
Eloquence DLL with the same product; it just does it in a more
hacky and less reliable way. So if you pay for code factory
Eloquence, you've legally licensed your copy; and if you use the
unofficial Eloquence, you have stability and you can honestly say
you've paid for it. I'm sure that's not how the law sees it, but
it's just my thoughts. I personally find that the code factory
one is less reliable as well.
