Re: certification test

Hi Quentin.

I am just going through the braille section on the questions i asked and found the answer for the selected one which was the text. I guess i will have to try and remember what i got wrong i have a rough idea but where i got them wrong if the results were there i could read up on those answers to correct them for next time. I plan to pass sooner or later.

Hi Gene,

Sorry I didn't get to help you earlier, glad you got the login sorted out.

The cost of the certification is $100 AUD, which works out to around $75 USD (or thereabouts currently, depending on the exchange rate).  The rate for renewals is 50% ($50 AUD or $38 USD or thereabouts, which is a yearly renewal.

Yes, the certification is up and running now.  We had a couple of beta testers and then quietly soft-launched it just as we left for CSUN, to try and catch any bugs before they affected too many people.  So we haven't promoted it too hard yet.

Anyone can do the exam, there is no cost for sitting the test, however, after passing the text, to purchase a certificate and have your name added to the certified individuals list costs AUD $100, which is roughly $75 USD (depending on the current exchange rate).  You have 55 minutes to complete the test.

If you have worked through the "Basic Training for NVDA" module, and understood the material, you should be well prepared for the exam, however it is important to stress that purchase of the training module is not required to sit the exam or become certified.

Also, for those who have done the certification, apologies for the delay, I'm about to send the certificates out this morning.

Kind regards

Re: certification test

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi Quentin.

I have been testing my knowledge doing the test and finally got quick enough to finish the test. I did not pas but was wondering what is the pass rate? is it like 80 percent? it also gave me a message i could not do it for 3 weeks is there a reason for it to be that long?

When i was going through the test there are questions about braille or using a braille display and what it shows etc for example when text is highlighted what does it show on the braille display or on the braille display how does the link show I think that was the wording for it.

Are these type of answers in the user guide? or in your book? I am thinking  only a user of those display would know.

I guess also i need to learn a little of the lap top commands as well.

Those ones i have looked up.

There are probably other questions I was unsure about so that is why I did not pass only 73 percent.

I noticed as well when i finished the test it did not give me any feed back on the areas i got wrong. this would be helpful to learn up on those areas which i got wrong.

The other thing i notice when i went to log into the text where you enter in your email etc it was very slow to type in like it was delayed by a second or 2. The computer was not scanning either for any thing.

Re: small issues with Sonos app for pc

Christopher-Mark Gilland <clgilland07@...>

OK. First off, in JFW, are you using the scripts from Brian Hartgen?

I ask, as this might be playing a roll into why you're able to access that list.

To tell ya the truth, I've not done much with the controller using NVDA, as I hear that the interface is slightly more verbose/sloppy from that end. Most of what I do is either from my iPhone, my Android backup phone, or my PC with JFW. That however said, I'm extremely familiar with the keyboard shortcuts.

Is there something specifically that you're trying to accomplish? I private beta  test the Sonos products, and software both, so I'm extremely adversed in all aspects of the Sonos setup/functionality.

Feel free to write me off list if you would like any further help.

I'd be absolutely honored to give you a hand where I can as another blind Sonos user.

Hi.

In my Sonos-app if i would like to go to the helpsection and check the
list of hotkeys it looks like this:

Sonos.Controller.Desktop.Main.KeyboardShortcutListItem

WHowever in jaws the list shows up propperly. So i dont know if this is
an app-issue, or an NVDA issue. but i would be glad if this kan be
fixed, gues also that kan make improvment in other aplications. because
i have faced same issues-.

In jaws you can scroll in shortcut list with up/down arrows, but in NVDA
this is not working.

Re: Bouncing messages?

Antony Stone

Ask the person who received the bounce message exactly what it says, and check
which mail server it was sent from.

That will give you more information about which machine decided there was a
problem, and what the problem was (and also whether it was temporary or
permanent). Without that information, everything is just a guess.

You'll have to work with someone.  We've been through these discussions at least once before.  Some things can't be dealt with on e-mail lists.  While it may be possible that the rules aren't working properly for a technical reason, it's very unlikely.  Someone will have to go through the process with you in real time and make sure exactly what is being done and how.  There may be list members who are willing to do this.

Hi

it sounds like she is not doing the last steps. when she is doing it.

When you go through the filter one of the combo boxes will have a move to it is the combo box after that where it says folder. she needs to open it up then navigate it to the folder where she wants it to go to. for example nvda tutorials of where ever she wants it to go to.

Up on the accessible email client mozilla thunder bird page there is both a written and audio tutorial on what to do for a basic one.

The one setup there was for any emails from the nvda list to go into a nvda folder.

but i am guessing that is what she is not doing the combo box after the move combo box to where she wants it to go to. You navigate the folder one like a tree view.

the more advanced she wants it the more fields she may have to do  depending how she sets it.

Hi Rosemary,

If you followed the steps to create the filter properly, they should automatically go to the folders as received.  If there were messages in the inbox that you want filtered before you created the filter, then go to your inbox, press alt + T for tools and R for run filter on folder.
This should move the misplaced messages from the inbox to the proper folder/s.

Re: running filters on messages in thunderbird

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

it sounds like she is not doing the last steps. when she is doing it.

Re: Spotify update?

Gene

You might ask Spotify support about the problem, if there is any way to cause the information to be read.  You might also join a spotify form and ask if anyone  knows how to stop updates in the newer version of the program.

Hi Gene.

I've tried that, and it still installs the newer update.

Hi, for anyone using the new version, i can't figure out how to get to
my saved albums.

It just shows something called grid.

I've tried installing a older version, but it keeps updating back to the
new version.

OK!
I have made It.
So, I have tried one experiment. I've type the alt key in this control, where are letters and ofcourse, It started read It to me. This same thing in last used symbols.
Or, if You press alt+tab to move to another dialogue, It can also read. But, You can't read It, if You press tab after selection of symbol types.
I don't know, why, but this is maybe of the new world mistake, or maybe, Win 10....
I don't know.

I need to replace a card number on amazon using nvda

Brian's Mail list account

Unfortunately I've had the usual circular issues with these sort of things.
I'm using firefox.
I'm on the normal site.
I see that there is an option to change card details and delete card details but do not see any add card details.
The change details seems to throw me into the expiry date form, and won't let me change the number for the new card, and delete simply does what it says on the tin.

Anyone figured this out? I'm loathe to delete the card in case I cannot find any way to put a new one in and the account needs to be recreated from scratch.
Paypal was very easy to do. I do wish these companies would standardise their payment methods set up stages.
