Re: disable beeping in NVDA

Peter,

I'm not sure it will help as I have not experienced the endless stream of tones, but perhaps that's because I use the NoBeepsSpeechMode Add-On available at the NVDA Add-Ons Page along with lots of others.  There are some signal tones, like when NVDA is starting and exiting and when you toggle certain things on or off, but that's about it.  I keep speech mode on for the most part.

disable beeping in NVDA

Peter B <bpeteringroups@...>

Hi, can somebody please tell me how to disable beeping in NVDA? I know you can select if you want progress bar updates spoken or beeps but also addons can make beeping tones like p.ex NVDA Remote. I need to completely disable that functionality because these tones cause an endless audio stream on my Bluetooth headset which then runs down the battery. Is there any config I can change or a dll I can delete or something like that?

Thanks in Advance,

Peter.

Re: questions about palemoon:

Mallard

Hello all,

PaleMoon is not accessible, because they simply stripped it of all accessibility functions to make it lighter...

Thanks devs, that's definitely the way to go to make inclusive programmes (sarcastic grin).

Ciao,

I downloaded a copy of it this morning. it was not usable by NVDA.
Because it was not accessible i then uninstalled it from my pc on

the computer rebooted crashed the computer i am using now and i had to
reinstall windows all together. I could not even restore it back to a

I have only got it back on line this mornig and in the process of
putting some programs on it.

Brian, I have gotten it a couple of times. Both times, I clicked the link.

Re: Say all/read to end funny

Use word wrap.  That will probably solve the problem.  It sounds as though you don't have word wrap on and my guess is that that is causing a buffer overflow in the screen-reader or in the speech synthesizer, I don't know which.

I'm sure you all know the bit of software called cpuz, which is used to show
what is inside your pc, very handy if you want more ram or whatever, well I
have a little batch file that sends this output to notepad  ie a txt file
loaded into notepad.
The thing is that when I do a read to end from anywhere, it often stops
well before the end. Is this expected or is it a bug?
Here is the end of a say all and what nvda/f1 reports when it has stopped.
Note the truncated  bits. Is say all  cancelled if a certain line length is
reached, perhaps?

Hi folks,

As the subject line says, I am unable to read certain Kindle content
with the latest NVDA and Kindle for PC. Text-to-Speech is enabled for
the books in question, so I am wondering if has something to do with the
automatic reading of content by Kindle's in-built text-to-speech.

Has anyone else encountered this please and if so, have they any
suggestions. When reading other content, NVDA reads as expected.

I am using latest stable NVDA and Kindle for PC v. 1.20.1

Thank you

Take care

Fw: Your Groups.io Account Is Bouncing

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

The message below is arriving here about twice a week interestingly around the time of some unspotted spam from wherever. Could it be that the server I use needs greylisting after such an event, ie the first attempt is always refused to stop spam bots from sending to it. If so then I'd expect others to get this message and lose emails from this list.

Re: Unable to read certain kindle content with latest NVDA and Kindle for PC

Sukil Etxenike <sukiletxe@...>

Hi,

I am finding the same situation. The books I'm trying to read (at least some of them) are compatible with screen readers, but they aren't read. Here you have a free book to test this. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it (change the .es part if you aren't from Spain).

Thanks,

Thank you

Take care

James

Hi Pranav ,

perhaps you should describe, what the text analyzer does, or what you wanna do, not everybody uses Jaws.

Hi all,

Is there a way to get feedback similar to what the jaws text analyzer gives you
with NVDA? There has been a ticket raised about this in the distant past.
However, this is not strictly a screen reader function. Is there an alternative
program that does this kind of analysis? I am looking at Microsoft Word 2016
for now. Yes, a word add-in could be written to give some of this feedback but I
am not sure.

Re: NVDA and PowerPoint?

Pranav Lal

Hi Joanne,

PowerPoint works with NVDA. You cannot add your own place holders so far. In
terms of positioning things, you will have to move objects around using the
arrow keys or use the properties dialogue for each object and play with screen
coordinates. The alt+delete keystroke may help with determining where an object
is. NVDA will tell you if objects overlap.

You can add images and other objects. When adding images, once you have inserted
an image using the ribbon, you should right click it by hitting the applications
key, go into properties and add alt text to it. That way, when you are
navigating to that object in future, you will know what it is. The alt tag with
also show up in slide show mode so you know what you are talking about.

Please ask specific questions and I'll do my best to help.

Pranav

Re: Issue with Windows Live Mail

Pete H <pete.h@...>

I am pleased to report that my friend has managed to fix the issue with her mail client by, as she put it, fiddling around with it, we will never know what caused the issue or how it was resolved as she doesn’t know herself, but my guess is that the window was not fully maximized and as a result NVDA was unable to read the folders and their contents properly, in a Skype session I talked her through setting the client to run maximized at start, which is how mine is set, and since doing this several years ago I have had no serious issues with the client.

My thanks go to all those on the list who tried to assist me.

I don't know what you mean by a bit strange with POP3.  I've been using Windows Live Mail for years with a POP3 account and I haven't had any problems.  I'm not saying this to be argumentative.  I'm saying it because those following the thread who are trying to decide which e-mail program to use should know that my experience contradicts yours and I have seen no other such comments from other users nor in reviews.

Outlook Express may be preferable for some people because of identities, but I've seen people for whom the Windows7 and higher compatible version works well and some who can't get it to work no matter how much they experiment and try different solutions to the problems they have.

No live mail was always a bit strange on pop3, compared to outlook express.
Imap was tolerable but I want off line email so am quite happy with the
modified OE at present.
I think in the main what I don't like about other email clients for me
personally is the tree view nature of all accounts being in one lump. I
prefer segregation completely, and as far as I am aware, no client has yet
gone down the identities route like OE does. Its a real shame as when you
have several accounts its far too easy to send personal email from a charity
account or do daft things like send to a list from an account you did not
subscribe with!

Message rules in OE are OK but it would be nice to have something that can
look at the whole header for matches on the server before it downloads the
body. It also has to have usenet.

I have never had difficulties with screen readers getting through anything
except major upgrades, e.g., Win7 or 8 to Win10, or any of the major updates
to the OS like the Anniversary Update and upcoming Creators Update. That's
not saying that a smaller update couldn't cause problems, but I haven't seen
many of them.

If someone has been using IMAP access to their e-mail and has been using
server-side filtering and folders then uninstalling and reinstalling an
e-mail client should not result in any loss of messages. POP is a completely
different kettle of fish and much messier.

Microsoft has actually now pulled the download of Windows Essentials 2012,
which includes WLM 2012, from their website. However, I archived a copy of
the full installer, not the web stub installer, and if anyone wants it it's
available from my Google Drive in 7Zip compressed format: wlsetup-all.7z (

NVDA and powerpoint?

Joanne Michelle Stark

Greetings,
Has anyone had experience with using NVDA and Microsoft powerpoint 2016 ? I need to know how to create placeholders, how to put slides together into a cohesive, understandable presentation, and where to find suitable pictures for this presentation (although that last point is not directly related to powerpoint itself, copying and pasting images in just the right spot will be useful to learn). I have not yet written the report on which the presentation will be based; still trying to gather sources. Gah, source-hunting. grrr. Anyway, any help offered in this area of technology that has always scared me just a bit is welcome. Better late than never to tackle Powerpoint from a screen-reader user's perspective. Must get back to researching my project after dinner. Thanks again for your assistance.

Re: is it possible to filter messages in the mail app?

in that last message on the triple labeled message that move should have been noted as from label3 to label2, not label2 to itself.  Typo.
