Re: Some issues with Windows 8.1

The cmd issue, if I remember, only happens with Windows 8. I tried the Python command prompt and NVDA reads things just fine; only the Windows cmd that NVDA reads the output character-by-character. I remember this was not the case with Windows 7.

Re: nvda con list

Hi,

The better list to subscribe is NVDACon-announce (nvdacon-announce+subscribe@groups.io).

Cheers,

Hi Dan

Below is the list of shortcuts for facebook. these include what ever browser you are using plus the face book ones.

It is probably alot easier to use the single letter ones by or I mean with NVDA. In some cases you will need to change from browse mode into say focus mode say to sign out.

Shortcuts that can be used with FaceBook

Facebook has shortcuts (access keys) for people who only use their keyboards to navigate. If you experience an issue using keyboard shortcuts, please let us know. Keep in mind that keyboard shortcuts can differ by browser (ex: Firefox, Internet Explorer).

Find the right combination of keys for your browser in the list below, and replace # with the access key number listed under Access Keys below.

Internet Explorer for PC: Alt + #, then Enter

Firefox for PC: Shift + Alt + #

Safari for Mac: Ctrl + Opt + #

Firefox for Mac:  Ctrl + Opt + #

Chrome for Mac: Ctrl + Opt + #

Chrome for PC: Alt + #

Re: using NVDA with the facebook website?

hi. i run nvda with firefox and win xp/ win 8.1 but you should have
any problem with other browsers or win os's.

one hint is to use the mobile fb which is m.facebook.com

however, fb is very easy to navigate with just tab, arrows and the
enter key. but, you need to know the lingo when you hear it.

from the top of the page (with the mobile version) you will go through
a number of links such as notifications, messages and the like. keep
listening and going ...

next, you will hear a set of placements that are for you to post a
message if you want. the first thing you will hear, is a graphic of
your fb page. then you will hear other stuff including edit. hear this
back up with the arrow key and then tab, then write your message.
done? then tab to post/send.

the next thing you will hear after this posting stuff is current
notifications and friend requests.

after this, you will start to hear the posts that are in your newsfeed.

really, that is all there is to it. in every post in that feed, you
will hear like and comment. just enter on those links and you will be
able to comment.

again, this is for the mobile version. the normal fb page is a bit
more redesigned but the basics hold.

it really isn't very hard, once you get used to it. really!

actually, fb is easier to use than this mail-list in digest form /smile ...

stay well. william

Re: skype recording software

Authorizing the program in skype literally affects how your recording
will sound. I recorded a conference earlier, and I didn't authorize it,
and I heard every sound on my machine. After I took care of
authorizaiton, I couldn't hear any speech even when i read emails and
the like.

Hi Dan

What browser are you using? There is different key combos for each browser.
I user these alot along with the quick navigation keys in facebook. I
use face book more to post stuff like when I update my website or read a
little material from what people are saying. I did start putting
together a basic tutorial on how to use face book, but have not done
much about it. It is one of those unfinished projects.

But I do have a list of the shortcuts for your browser here if you want

Re: Google Chrome Settings

Gene

For what it's worth, the inaccessible about page in the current production release version of Chrome is accessible with Window-eyes.  Also, you can use quick navigation keys in settings with Window-eyes.  If you already have Window-eyes installed, you may want to use it for these purposes.  If you don't, by the time you install it and set it up as you wish you will probably have done far more work than just going through the inconvenience of tabbing through the settings page.

Re: prevent pages from refreshing

Gene

That may be a region of the page and I don't know enough about the subject to know if that should cause the same behavior in NVDA as a full screen refresh.  In other words, I don't know whether that should make the screen-reader return to the top of the page and start reading from the top.  If this behavior is different for different people, why?  Does it depend on the browser, on the version of NVDA, on both?  We may need more information to assist the developers in reproducing or analyzing the problem.  Of course, the developers might want to explore the matter themselves with various pages but more information might be very useful.

That's the option. But it is pretty cumbersome to activate and deactivate
this option anytime you came across such a site.
In Cobra you simply press letter s to freeze the site, and simply press
letter s again to set it free again.
And of course it is no solution to keep the metarefresh option deactivated,
because if so some sites don't work properly; i. e. you can't log in some
site, can't select list items in a list etc.

So a simple feature like in Cobra would be pretty helpful when you came
across such a site.

I think if we could all work on a consistent description of what exactly the problem is it would be easier for the dev people to nail it down.

Which ones conflict?
Please see the prior message, however commands to enable and disable the camera, mute and others that also perform browser-specific functions conflict.

If they are supposed to work in the Hangouts Chrome app, that app doesn't seem to be accessible with NVDA.
I've use them in Hangouts integrated in GMail.com and hangouts.google.com
I will do some more testing with this tomorrow assuming as I can find somebody to hang out with, but the commands didn't seem to work here in general, and for sure the browser-specific ones did not. This was when using hangouts.google.com with both Chrome and Firefox.
