Re: this NVDA error is driving me nuts!

We'll see how this develops.  I've seen the same complaint once or twice before and I don't remember how or if it was resolved.  NVDA wouldn't be expected to have anything to do with the problem but I don't rule out the possibility of odd behavior when dealing with Windows and Windows programs in odd cases.  Very low probability things might occur very rarely.

NVDA has nothing to do with which browser is launched as far as ican see. It
is dictated by the file associations in windows, which file types and links
are opened by which browser if its not your default. are you saying that
doing exactly the same thing in Jaws does not have this effect. I'd be very
sceptical about this myself unless its jaws which is doing the altering to
the browser and not NVDA.
We would need to know all the details of the operating system and which
versions of which browsers were installed and exact steps to reproduce the
effect you get.
The only time I've seen other browsers open is.
If a link is clicked in that other browser first.
If a program is configured to use a different browser, such as for example
the file hippo utility or Microsoft windows update in XP which will always
use Internet Explorer.

Occasionally, a particular web page can be configured to send a command to
another program, such as when it needs flash or something, but its not often
I've seen this re launch a different browser. Of course Itunes in Windows
has its own heap of rubbish  that accesses the internet as do other bits of
software, some of these are based on Internet Explorer.

Hi NVDA user have tried to get an answer to this and nothing it is driving
me crazy.  this morning while still using jaws before switching to NVDA I
checked out an item on blind bargains.  I finished all I needed to finish,
and now am on NVDA I went to that item on blind bargains again, wanting to
review it one more time.  it was a primer on the windows 10 creaters update.
I’m going to call the microsoft answer desk in a moment and have some help
with that update.  however when I clicked the link in the blind bargains
email to read that item again instead of bringing up chrome to read the
document, I see an error message Internet explorer is coming up saying
address not valid this is NVDA any time I go to an item on a link in an
email, close that down and do something else maybe on a different browser
like firefox, then return to that previous thing it won’t bring up chrome
which is my default. I get that not valid message and internet explorer is
coming up with it.  internet explorer has nothing to do with it it’s not my
default and this only happens on NVDA to correct this I have to reboot. why
is NVDA not able to bring up my default browser after I have done something
else somewhere else.  I’m going to have to either reboot to reread that item
or do this blindly.  does anyone know why this happens.  internet explorer
is my least used and least favorite browser and should have absolutely
nothing to do with it.  and again it is an NVDA error.

Upgrading to Win 10

Carlos

Hello All:

I have Win 8.1 and my computer is qualified to run win 10.

Is there a tutorial for blind users that will guide me through all the steps necessary to have a nice quiet and pain free upgrading experience?

NVDA is my main screen reader and as we all also have narrator which I am not sure how well it might work on the upgrade?

I will be doing the upgrade from the Microsoft accessibility website which offers those upgrad to Win 10 for those who have assistive technologies.

Thank You! In advance for all your good advice and assistance!!!

I'm with everyone so far, but in different senses.

Thunderbird is indeed an excellent e-mail client overall and works beautifully with NVDA and other screen readers. One can teach basic use and ignore all the bells and whistles not needed. That being said, the less sophisticated user can and often does get themselves into trouble by fat-fingering something and triggering some function that they do not know about, do not wish to trigger, and have no idea how to exit. That is the trouble with using a really full-featured e-mail client like Thunderbird.

I like Windows Live Mail 2012, and even though it's no longer officially supported that is mostly because Microsoft decided to change their proprietary access methods and did not wish to continue updating Windows Live Mail. It still serves perfectly well as a POP or IMAP e-mail client. If you want to download a copy of the full offline installer for Microsoft Essentials, of which Windows Live Mail is a part, it's on my Google Drive in 7-Zip format here. I snagged a copy of the offline installer a couple of weeks before Microsoft withdrew active support.

I have recently learned of another fairly simple email client, eM Client, that looks quite good but I have not had a chance yet to evaluate it from an accessibility standpoint. The interface seems to be simpler than Thunderbird's is, and that can be critical. If you do evaluate this client for accessibility please report back.

What operating system and version of NVDA are you using, and that's for starters.  The web addresses that are giving the problems wouldn't hurt, either.

You've not provided enough information for an error like this to give guidance with any confidence.

Re: Issues with NVDA and 1703, inside VM ware fusion

Hello Jessica and list,
I recall that during the installation of VMware there is a check box called "enhanced keyboard driver" or very similar. Can't check the exact wording right now as I'm away from all machines but my iPhone. It will require a restart but might solve your problem, if my intuition is correct.
Good luck,
Felix

Hi,

I’m using vM ware fusion, as a free trial, and I can’t press “insert+ N” for the NVDA menu.
Ive made other key combinations, but none of them work.
Also, on occasion, other keys, like “alt tab” won’t work.

How can I fix this?

I’ve updated my installation media, just in case.

Is telling the computer to boot from installation media accessible?

Thanks,
Jessica

If you go to control panel

Then open file explorer options

Then go to the view tab

Then uncheck the option to use check boxes to select items

Then apply and ok

Tht should fix it

I use audacity for recording, and, audio tweaking, and, it works fine with NVDA.

Hi guys!  Someone suggested some free recording software for music production and I don’t remember what they said.  I know someone recommended Reaper and I’ve read good things about it.  But, I don’t remember the name of the other DAW.  Would someone care to refresh my memory?  I think it starts with Q?  I’d like to read some reviews on it if I can.  Thanks so much.
