Sadly I tried awhile ago today, while having several files opoen, Alt+numbers but no go, thus maybe it has to do with the Shark's scripts? thus could this be implemented somehow into the GoldWave AddOn? AT least for me, it's a timesaver to quickly switch between for instance, Fil A and File B without having to perform the Control+tab command to switch between these; OH and when you do Alt+1 to go to File A, Focus moves to that file; Alt+2 for File B and focus moves to that one, thus that's why I say it's a timesaver!

I'd like to suggest having the ability to via Alt+numbers from 1-9, be able to move between files during editing, instead of having to do Control+tab? kind of like what the other screen readers' scripts do. Thanks for implementing.

I use Open Office with NVDA, and find the accessibility pretty good. You no longer have to mess about with Java Access Bridge, I'm relieved to say. You may want to look at the Options menu and make sure the accessibility settings in there are the ones you want.

Re: is the mail app accessible in windows 10

that's good news!
i'm not so satisfied with thunderbird as most other.
my problem is, when i start thunderbird, and  i go into the inbox the cursor is on the upper of the list, while for example winmail has the cursor on the last read email.
but as far i know that is impossible to do with thunderbird.
i hope that it better in the mail app.
on my laptop wich is working with windows 10 home, I have succeeded to let winmail work on windows 10.
on my desktop i tryed the same tric, but without succes.
it's a pitty.
windows vista was a realy bad os but winmail is the only  brilliant light weight  email client.
the rest of vista, i can't better talk about it!

The answer is no.  I tried it too but had the same issues you are having.

I did find on the suggestions of others here that the Thunderbird app works quite well.  I am using it very happily now.

I don't know how you turn off the preview pane in Windows 10 but instead of waiting to see what happens, just turn it off if it's on.  In Windows 7 the preview pane causes crashes.

Could it be that his preview pain is enabled in windows explorer and his
machine lags when trying to preview the files. Try waiting a few more
minutes when you open file explorer to give the machine time to load
everything. now if you are looking through different files it might
crash because it will try to load that file in the preview pain again.

if one does an autorun.inf to start nvda on u s b drive user account control pops up and asks to continue. Not sure either alt + y or may be alt + r to allow nvda to run is needed, and that's if autorun is not disabled. Same thing for a cd rom.

Hello,
I am not sure, what kind of suggestions are addressing?

Joseph Lee 於 3/3/2016 14:33 寫道:

Hello all,

First, thank you all for joining the next generation NVDA
International users list.

The leadership team would like to receive feedback from beginning
NVDA users regarding the following:

2016 is a special year for NVDA users: NVDA turns ten. To
celebrate this, some members of the community are organizing a
huge online conference around NVDA’s tenth birthday: NVDA Users
and Developers Conference (NVDACon for short), to be held in April
2016.

NVDACon is an annual gathering of NVDA users and developers to
talk about current state of NVDA development. Topics have included
math support, braille enhancements, supporting Windows 10, web
browsing, Google applications and more. This year, to coordinate
NVDACon 2016, several members of this list, together with outside
supporters and NV Access formed a planning committee to discuss
planning and logistics of this online conference.

One of the suggestions considered by organizers is a session or
two devoted to beginners. The goals of these sessions are to
introduce you to NVDA and its features, understanding concepts
such as NVDA menu, object navigation, web browsing and others, an
introduction to add-ons and more. Because organizers would like to
receive feedback from many fellow community members, we’d like to
ask you to send in your suggestions to the committee by either
contacting committee members (Nimer, I, Derek Riemer and others),
or sending an email to nvda+owner@groups.io
<mailto:nvda+owner@groups.io> with the subject line of “NVDACon
2016” and the admins will forward it to the committee for
consideration during our next meeting (sometime in March). Also,
even if you are not a beginner (or consider yourself a power
user), more suggestions, the better, so we’ll accept suggestions
from you as well. The deadline for receiving your email will be
March 14, 2016 (shortly before Accessible World Tek Talk event on
NVDA and NVDACon) so we can discuss your comments and finalize the
schedule by early April.

Thank you, and the NVDACon Planning Committee are looking forward
to considering your comments.

Sincerely,

Joseph

Re: NVDA2016.1 doesn't read Emoticons with Vocalizer nor

Gene

Yes.  I made a mistake when giving the command.  I consider the ability to change settings while not having them kept permanently to be an important advantage NVDA has over some screen-readers.  It lets you experiment and immediately go back to previous settings if desired.  It also lets you change one or more settings you might want to change for a specific task, then immediately change back.  The command to revert to previous settings is NVDA control r.  This can only be done if you haven't permanently saved the changes.  I often like to speed up reading at times, then revert, with one command, to my usual speed settings.

Saving settings on exit isn't necessarily a good idea.  You may change one
or more settings to accomplish a specific task or to try a different voice
and you may intend them to be experimental.  There is such a thing as too
much automation.  I believe that making permanent changes in a program
should be intentional, not automatic.  And you can save settings very
easily.  You don't even have to use the menus.  Simply issue the command
control alt c if you want to permanently save settings.

To make doubly sure you've saved all your settings, it's an idea to go to
the NVDA menu as soon as you've changed settings and choose Save
Configuration. Also, go to the NVDA menu, Preferences, General Settings, and
make sure "Save configuration on exit" is checked.

We're all learning, so no need to make out you're dumb!

Re: NVDA2016.1 questions

Gene NZ <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

A while ago I put together different ways on how to start NVDA with a USB stick and or a CD version.
Any files that were needed are there as well.

A few years back Microsoft disabled the autoplay menu so the way it used to be started like that will not do it, because the autoplay menu was disabled. You have to enable the autoplay menu for it to work.

I know it works on the CD version but ca not remember for the USB version, I would have to check. I will have a look later on today on my windows 10 machine and see if it still works with the autoplay menu when the USB stick is plugged in.

Any how there are other ways of starting NVDA up there if you want to check them out. The link to this page is http://accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20audio%20tutorials.html
You can jump down quickly to the section by using the letter H in NVDA. Look for the section to do with USB stick and CD.

Hope this helps.

Re: NVDA2016.1 questions

Gene NZ <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

If you mean you want nvda to start on startup when windows does and you are using a installed version have a look under the general settings part of NVDA.

Just in cast you don't know how to start NVDA when it is not running use the CTRL + ALT + the letter N
To get into the preferences part of NVDA where you can makie changes etc use the NVDA key + the letter N
To quit your copy of NVDA use the NVDA key + the letter Q

Where I refer to the NVDA key this is a modifier key and can be either the insert key, the extended insert key or the capslock key, so one of these keys will be used say to turn off NVDA for example insert key + the letter Q

If you go into the preferences section of NVDA, to get there use the NVDA key + the letter N. You may have to arrow down for it to say prefences , thenyou will have to arrow right to general settings, press the enter key. Inside of there will be where you find it. Make sure it is checked to start nVDA when windows does, plus and the one below it should be checked as well.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have a few questions regarding NVDA 2016.1 and NVDA in particular.
1. NVDA 201.1 is freezing up a lot when I atempt to use iTunes. It's getting to the point that I am switching to another screen reader to use iTunes. Is there a fix for this issue?
2. When using a portable copy of NVDA, is there a way to set it to star automatically as soon as you plug it into your computer?
Thanks
Chris

Hey Dan,
What other screen readers do you have? I have NVDA and System Access installed on my computer. I could install JAWS, but I wasn't sure how much better it would work with iTunes.
Of the two, NVDA is more reliable. I just tried to use System Access a few minutes ago and it cut out after only a few minutes.
Thanks
Chris

Honestly, I don't know of any screen reader that works particularly well
with iTunes. So far NVDA seems to be the best of the three that I have. I
hope someone might be able to write an ad-on for it someday. (smile)

Just my two cents worth.

Dan

I haven't used iTunes in a while so couldn't tell you what is happening, but
the last time i used it. it worked well with NVDA 15.4 and iTunes 12 or
whatever the latest one was. It would be nice to have an auto run feature
for the portable copy of NVDA. I tried creating one and it would only auto
run in windows vista. Next project maybe would be to create an NVDA stick
that you can carry with you and it can just start talking as soon as it is
plugged in.

Can't answer the first one, but I used to run a portable nvda on my

it's .exe file in the startup folder of Windows.

Re: Suggesting several features for GoldWave AddON

Hi,
If this is a native (built-in) GoldWave command, then yes, I'll investigate.
Cheers,
Joseph

Joseph and whoever does the GoldWave AddOn for NVDA I'd like to suggest
having the ability to via Alt+numbers from 1-9, be able to move between
files during editing, instead of having to do
Control+tab? kind of like what the other screen readers' scripts do.
Thanks for implementing.
