Re: problems with vfo

John Hedges

That is pretty high praise for the Orbit Reader20. I do not know of any refreshable braille display that is industrial grade, for harsh environments.

Just a note that Window-Eyes was merged with AiSquared some 3 years ago, so it is now owned by BFO.

Do you think that if Window-eyes was in the same economic position as VFO that there would be a free version?  Why should a for profit company give away one of its important profit-making products?

hello

When I called vfo in the past they seemed quite hostile to my suggestion
of making a free version of jaws. And also if you get a braille display
in the future, I would recommend getting an orbit reader20 braille
display plus book reader plus note taker all in one, from american
printing house. It will probably be released next month in June. And a
brand new orbit20 will only cost around or a bit less than $500 and its
liquid and dust resistant, rugged and durable, the only one made to work
in hostile environments. And it works good with NVDA.

It seems that as well as taking away the xml code that webie used for

channel program listings, the pages have changed as well as for those in the

uk like myself it was relatively easy to find a show, go to the page say yes

to tv licence, and then select ways to watch and switch on the AD. NOw when

you go to say yes to the tv licence, it immediately plays and one cannot

even hear if the selection is there. One assumes its somewhere but either

nvda/firefox is not seeing it or they have completely screwed it up.

Has anyone here in the UK managed to watch  programme with AD since last

Spelling error, yes you can control this in preferences and much moor. I'm more worried about it stopping reading though. I have to say I've not encountered this. Maybe we could have some real life pages and the browser it happens in?

Whenever NVDA is reading anything on a web page and it encounters a hyperlink, it
stops reading.

Is there a way for it to keep going, or to just read the text of the hyperlink itself?

Also, I've noticed that when it encounters proper nouns, it will often read out the
words "spelling error" when it reads the name.

Is there a way to disable that?

Just reposting the previous message for the 2 drop box links for speech

hub and speech platform package below.

Hi

The following link will be to my drop box account. it has all of the

different voices in different languages along with the speech platform

runtime engine thingy. All the other files are TTS which stands for text

to speech voices.

The engine must be installed then the voices.

Then like normal you should be able to find the package under the synth

settings in nvda and the voices under the voices section.

The link will be left for 24 hours maybe long.

Depending how you have it done when you click on the link it might just

want you to save the file or if it goes to the new drop box interface

you might have to change into browse mode i think it is then arrow down

to the download button then press the enter key to get it.

The link to the speech platform voices is

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zthyyh9kef7repx/Speech%20Platform%2011%20engine%20and%20voices.zip?dl=0

I have not installed it on my windows 10 machine but am guessing someone

else has. I am using my own voice alot which is called Gene which is a E

speak voice.

This next link is to the speech hub package and when installed you must

also install the add on which is found under the C: drive then program

files x86 then speech hub then nvda add on folder.

When it is installed then nvda will be able to see the package and then

you can check under the synth section in nvda to find the package and

the voice settings to find the differnt voices.

You are getting confused. Speech platform is a microsoft synth. Speech hub is an add on to allow the ones you mention to be used. I see about three in the general download of speech hub, but even on a quad core machine it seems quite sluggish.

Re: Hyperlinks and Spelling Errors

What browser are you using?  I've never seen a browser present something as a spelling error when you are reading a document you aren't editing.

Stopping at links isn't an expected behavior an I don't know why it is occurring.  You might try running NVDA with no add ons and see if the behaviors are present.  If you issue the command NVDA key q, a list of choices will come up.  One of them is to run NVDA with no add ons.  You are already on exit.  Down arrow to the choice you want and press enter.

Hurrah for NVDA!

Here is an addendum to my previous message.

My HMO tells me that a check for the cleaning and repair of my Focus 40 was mailed to VFO last Friday. They tried to get
thed company to ship the Braille display back immediately, but the company refused.

VFO is showing more concern for money than for its customers. This is like what hapened when Henter-Joyce merged with
Blazie Engineering to produce Freedom Scientific, but it is worse. It is self-defeating in the end.

I'm glad I'm using NVDA, not JAWS. If I get another Braille display in the future I'll avoid anything from FVO.

I would be happy to have those voices if you get them let me know if you do.

It is always better to think before you reply!

Hi

I also have the other package of speech platform voices from microsoft.
It is version 11. I would just have to locate them.

I can drop box them into a email of which you would have to enter on
then download from there.

it has the engine as well as all of the voices. Just let me know if
you want them.
