Re: Code Factory Vocalizer Disappearing

I don't recall who said that it only checks in once a month.  but what is your experience?  When does deactivation occur, when you boot or when the speech is already running or when you unload NVDA and then run it again?  I won't say that uninstalling an reinstalling won't help, but I doubt it.  First, consider questions such as I asked.  it isn't just booting, it's unloading and running the program again.  The add on doesn't care when you boot.  It only cares when NVDA isn't running and then is started with the speech or when you switch to that speech if you initially ran NVDA with other speech and then switched.  Whenever it activates, once a month or sooner, it activates when it is run in whatever way it is run.

The demo lasts a bit over a week.

Well if it only needs to check in once a month, then rebooting wouldn't have any
effect on the activation, right?

The reason for the deactivations isn't really clear.    Maybe reinstalling NVDA
would help?

If you use sleep or hibernate instead of shutting down the computer, the program won't have to authorize itself after the first verification.  You should reboot after a certain number of days to avoid instability.  Experimentation may help you decide how often.  You may be able to get away with not rebooting for a week, perhaps more, ore you may have to reboot more often such as every three or four days.  That will greatly reduce the number of authorizations.

Also, how are you still using the demo?  I haven't seen a demo of products like this that runs for mor than a week or two.

Accessibility issues

Robert A. Hansen <roberthansen1970@...>

Hello all,

I am Robert H. I have been using NVDA since Fall of 2013. I ran it on Windows 7, Lenovo laptop, and Windows 8.1, Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have had good luck and positive experience with NVDA, including the transition to Windows 10 on both of my laptops in 2015. A few days ago I received a Windows 10 Build 1607 on both of my laptops. I have noticed a big decline in the accessibility of NVDA with this windows update. The ever present "unknown" is all over the place. This occurs on both my laptops that I own. Each laptop has the same build of Windows 10 running on it. I noticed this on the task bar at first. Now I have noticed it on the Mozila Firefox browser and Mozila Thunderbird email program. I use Mozila firefox and thunderbird exclusively. There are a few other places I have heard the "unknon" word uttered. Also, when I backspace to erase or make corrections, I do not hear what I am correcting. Has anyone else out there experienced this decline in accessibility? Am I doing something wrong?

Also webpages do not read correctly or not at all.

Thank you for any help I can get.

for the group to include a signature when you post via e-mail.  There is a checkbox on the page that reads, "Use signature for email posting" that's immediately followed by an edit box for the signature itself.

As you can see in my own, I've now added my current Windows 10 version, build, and specific type information following my name.  The name, of course, is not necessary.

This is an easy edit each time any one of the above mentioned pieces of information is changed and it will be automatically added to the end of any message you send to the group via e-mail (or web, too, if you check that checkbox and use the web interface).

Hi Group,

I am posting this in separate messages to 3 lists. Someone sent me a link or links to two tutorials. I had a hard drive crash and while I backed up almost everything else, for some reason, I didn't back those tutorials up.

One tutorial was an extensive instruction on how to use the ribbons in Windows 7, 8 and 10. The other was a detailed instruction on using Microsoft Outlook.

If anyone has these tutorials, could you please resend them to me at the following e-mail address:

Two questions:

1. Should https://www.nvaccess.org/about/nvda-features/ be changed from pointing to http://espeak.sourceforge.net/ to pointing to https://github.com/espeak-ng/espeak-ng?

2. Both the Sourceforge and "espeak-ng" versions of espeak are currently licensed "GPL3 (or later)".  But NVDA itself is licensed under "GPL2" -- at least according to https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/blob/master/copying.txt, which reads "NVDA is available under the GNU General Public License version 2, with two special exceptions." However, https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.en.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses reads in part: "Please note that GPLv3 is not compatible with GPLv2 by itself. However, most software released under GPLv2 allows you to use the terms of later versions of the GPL as well."  Would it be possible for NVDA to change their license.txt to be "NVDA is available under the GNU General Public license 2 (or later), with two special exceptions"?

I know this sounds pedantic, but it might be good to reflect upon the history of the eSpeakNG project itself...there was of course difficulty in deciding to branch (after the original developer because unavailable), but there was never any question as to whether it was legally possible -- all since all of the original code was consistently GPL licensed.  It would be worthwhile to make NVDA as similarly ironclad.

Thank you so much!

Re: Code Factory Vocalizer Disappearing

According to code factorys website

In brief...

The software needs to check home every month otherwise the it will become deactivated

and each key can used on upto three machines

if you need to use the key on another machine then you should deactivate one of the other machines first

if you perform a major hardware change or an operating system major upgrade or change again deactivate the machine first to avoid losing one of your three activations

and if you activate it on a portable version of nvda on a public machine again deactivate when finished otherwise risk losing one of your activations

Re: Code Factory Vocalizer Disappearing

Fantasy Sports <fantasylife@...>

I've been using it for a few weeks, but I think the problem may be my slow connection.

Since I often lose connection when downloading, I think maybe it is failing to activate
itself during times when my connection is slow or bad.

I will probably just have to live with having to activate this product constantly.

I don't know if anyone can answer the question.  there are all sorts of add ons and there isn't any one prescribed behavior.  If you are using Eloquence, I don't think the SAPI 5 Eloquence software activates itselfmore than once as a demo and, I would think, once when you register it if purchased.

But doesn't the add on stop working after a week or two?  How long have you been using it?

Gene.  I think you get an unlock code for it and I don't

Does that apply to other add-ons as well, such as the other voice software
add-ons released by other companies?

I would think that every time you start NVDA after it isn't running, that the add on has to authorize itself.

I am using the add-on which I downloaded here:

Are you trying the add on or the SAPI 5 version, that is not an add on.

I want to be sure because both are available for Eloquence.  The add on I am familiar with has Eloquence and another synthesizer.  the SAPI 5 Eloquence has only Eloquence.

Unfortunately, the Code Factory Vocalizer and Eloquence pack
that I downloaded is spontaneously de-activating itself.

This is happening both with my portable and installed versions
of NVDA.

I often have to manually re-activate the add-on everytime I
open NVDA.

Does anyone have a possible fix for this?

Thank you for the help.

Re: Question about reading a whole row with nvda in excel

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi Quentin.

I passed on the information to the person who asked and they are stoked i think they said they put like names and addresses etc into either rows or etc and was far quicker to read them that way.

They also said in what ever version of jaws they had it could do it but i was unsure if nvda could as i did not use excel enough.

They have been using nvda for a little while now.

thanks for the info i will also put it into my database.

Hi Gene,

There isn't a direct command, but a workaround is:

1. Press SHIFT+SPACEBAR to select the row
2. Press control+c to copy it to the clipboard
3. Press NVDA+c to read the clipboard

This will read the whole row as one block of text.  Note that it will overwrite anything you already had on the clipboard.  It also reads the values of cells, not formulas.  If you want formulas read, press control+` (control+grav) to toggle between showing values and formulas before copying the row.

Similarly, if you want to read the column, press control+spacebar instead of shift+spacebar at step 1.

Kind regards

Quentin.

         hi guys

I do not use excel enough but a question has been asked about reading a
whole row at one time.

i thik i did see some body ask a question like this but did not see the
result.

is there such a command? or is there a ticket to do this?

The question is below from the person that asked me.

I’m wondering if you know of a command to get NVDA to read an entire row
in an excel worksheet? Seemingly, I can only get it to read the current
cell, but would like it to read at least all that is visible  on the row
that I am on.

Thanks for any help.

OK. I'm just used to seeing an RC1 (and, on rare occasions, an RC2) come out prior to the main release and that post made me think I might have missed it when I was on vacation.
