hi,

Why is nvda incompatible with flash in firefox 64 bit? This is absolutely unacceptable. All embed objects in firefox 64 bit are unavailable.

On the "Past Conferences" page, there are links to the recordings: https://www.nvdacon.org/past-conferences (jump down a couple of Heading level 2's) to get directly to the recordings.

Is supposedly where the archives of the recordings from this years event are, but I don't seem to see any links to the mp3 files here.
Should there be? If not where are they.

Slightly confused.

hello.
Whenever i open a channel on my mixer NVDA pipes in. Is there a way to not have NVDA do such? I am using a Yamaha mg12XU Mixer paired to a Tascam 4x4 USB interface, thanks.

Re: Braille display cursor routing

Thank you, and my apologies - I overlooked that setting, which must have been
changed at some point for some reason. The method you describe below worked as
advertised.

Quentin Christensen <quentin@...> wrote:

Hi Jason,

If you open NVDA's Braille settings:

1. Press NVDA+n (your NVDA key should be either INSERT or CAPS LOCK)
2. Press P for preferences
3. Press R for Braille (or down arrow to "Braille Settings" and press
ENTER).

There is an option in there "Braille tethered to". It sounds like yours is
tethered to "Review". If you change that to "Focus", it will move the text
cursor as you expect.

You can also press NVDA+control+t to toggle this. Possibly you
accidentally pressed this when intending to read the title bar of a window?

Quentin.

prior location.

In this case, I tested with a Freedom Scientific Focus 40 Blue display,
Grade

cursor.

Is this a known issue, or can others on the list reproduce it?

Hi Kelby,

Apologies if you receive this message more than once, Outlook crashed a couple of times when I was writing it and the message disappeared.

In order to move to a new mailbox (folder in Outlook), press control+y. At this point and when moving messages to a folder with shift+control+v, you'll be in a tree view so may need to expand various branches with right arrow in order to see your various sub-folders, depending on your folder structure.

There are a couple of other changes I recommend you make to NVDA and Outlook to make your Outlook experience more efficient, though these are a matter of personal preference.

I don't like the fact that NVDA reads field labels such as "from", "Subject" etc when I arrow up and down the message list, I simply want to hear the name of the person, the content of the subject line etc. To prevent NVDA doing this, you can turn off the reading of column and row headers in Outlook.

To do this, when in Outlook, press NVDA+control+P to load the Configuration Profiles dialog. You should press alt+n to create a new configuration, as you won't want to apply these changes across the board.

You'll land in an edit field for the configuration name, I'd leave the default as is.

Press tab and you'll land on a series of radio buttons which will dictate how the configuration is triggered. You want it to load each time you use Outlook, so choose the "current application" radio button.

Press enter and you'll be ready to edit your new configuration profile.

Press NVDA+control+d to load the Document Formatting dialog.

Press tab until you find the row/column header checkbox, and uncheck it.

Press enter to save your changes.

You may also want to stop Outlook grouping messages. If you don't, when you arrow down and enter a new Outlook group such as previous day, previous week etc, NVDA will announce it.

How you do this varies slightly in each version of Outlook. However, if you go to the View tab of the ribbon with alt+v, look for something like "arrange by". Press it, use the arrow keys to find "show in groups" and make sure that it is unchecked.

To apply this change across all folders, go back into the View tab, choose "change view", use the arrow keys to choose "Apply the current view to all mail folders" and press enter.

Cheers,

Ed

This is 100% accessible, I’m not sure what you mean by it’s inaccessible as tabbing around gives you all the rellivant info you have always gotten with the classic skype.

Sluggish reading of emails in Outlook

Edward Green <ergreen1981@...>

Hi all,

I’m using NVDA 2017.2 on an HP Spectre 13 laptop running Windows 10 Creator’s Edition.

I’m finding that NVDA performs sluggishly when reading the body of emails by line in Outlook 2016.  There’s probably a 0.5-0.775 second delay between me pressing the down arrow and hearing any text.

I’m using SAPI 5 Eloquence as my default speech synthesiser but am getting similar results with ESpeak.

Is there anything I can do to improve NVDA’s responsiveness?

Cheers,

Ed

NVDA and Outlook 2017

Sam Bushman

              Hi All,

I am having some problems with nvda and outlook 2017.

When I launch nvda and then launch outlook I get a two tone sound – I think it means an error in NVDA.

I have the log with the nvda errors below.

Is this the right list to provide this feedback or can someone please direct me to the correct venue?

I am currently running windows 10 64-bit pro – with the creators updates.

If you're using overdrive and/or amazon to do the returning of the books, you need to click the return on the amazon site, then either go all the way to the bottom of the page and find the yes/no buttons, and click the yes button, or (do like I do), go to the top of the page, then shift-tab 4 or 5 times, which puts you on the no (for some reason it skips the yes), then tab once, which will place you on the yes.  Press enter, and the book is returned.  It's a major pain, but it works.  I have no idea why amazon handles things this way, but that's how I deal with it, so hopefully this will work for you as well.

In the system tray, you will find something related to the touch pad or the device being used.  Mine says something like Synaptic pointing device.

Click the icon, you may have to experiment and see which click works, and you are in a multipage dialog.  I almost never have worked with it but if you shift tab once, you will be in a place where you can right arrow to see the different pages.  Look for device settings.  On mine, it's the last item to the right so I can get there by pressing end.

Then, if you tab around, you will see an item that says disable.  It's a button.  Press the space bar and then tab to and activate the ok button.

You can enable it in the same way.  When you return to that part of the dialog, you will see enable.  But to avoid the inconvenience of repeatedly disabling and enabling it, why not just buy or get an external mouse and connect it when needed.

I have no idea if the crashing problem is caused by the touchpad.  I suspect things won't be that simple.  Windows keeps a record of every crash and having it looked at may provide the answer if a technically knowledgeable person looks at it.  If the touchpad solution doesn't work, looking at the records may be the only way to find the problem.

Hi there. I don’t use the mouse (touchpad) itself, but it is possible my hand or arm moves the pointer. The problem is: I can’t put it off…

Maybe that’s the solution, but I don’t know how to solve it here… Often, there are people who want to use my touchpad.

Hi Jordy,

Do you happen to be using the mouse at all?  LibreOffice hangs for me, particularly when I move the mouse over things like the toolbar.  If I leave the mouse alone, it behaves.

I'm sure there's an issue for it, but I can't put my finger on it just now.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi all. I don’t know if it’s a NVDA problem, but I would really see it’ll be solved.

The problem is: when I try to use LibreOffice, it crashes all the time. I can type about four sentences, and then, nothing responds anymore, and after a while, the message: “LibreOffice is not responding.”

What’s the problem here, and how can I solve it? I tried to use Apache OpenOffice.org, that haven’t given any troubles yet, but I like the way of use of LibreOffice more than OOo.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Jordy.

Of course one has to warn that any add on from a third party site has not
been quality checked.

It is a hardware synth and I know someone who uses one and he found an
add-on somewhere. I just did a quick search and found it here:

I hope that helps.

I was under the impression that one could set up and use TripleTalk with
NVDA, but it's not in the synthesizers. Is there an add-on to do this?

Thanks,

Nance

Using Outlook

Are there any good resources on using Outlook with NVDA? I'm just now
attempting to get it set up; there are some things I'm finding easy
but also things I have no idea how to do, like mailbox navigation.
