NVDA not announcing paste or copy when using control-C or control-V

Dan Thompson

Hi everyone,

I have not been able to make NVDA consistently announce paste or copy on the computers I am using in class with students.

My computer does, however, several of the 16 students I work with will not. Can someone guide me to the correct area in preferences?  I thought I’d went through everything. But obviously, I am missing something.

Thanks for any guidance in advance.

Re: query

Gene

It is evidently referring to an add on.  But which one?  If the person doesn't know the exact name, what does it do?  I think I read recently that there is a virtualize window add on.  Is that what is being referred to?

I don't know what the first part of your query refers to exactly. However
when you look at the manual it should open in your default browser straight
from the menu option.

Re: say all doesn't work with sapi5 synthesyzer

Gene

Keypad plus doesn't move the cursor, as you say, but that's irrelevant.  What is being discussed is read to end and that the application cursor doesn't move when read to end is being used.  The questioner wants to know how to correct the problem so that it moves.  Numpad plus is a screen reading command and is used in conjunction with the different review modes.  It is unrelated to this problem.

Maybe this should be addressed to the dev list as somebody over there
probably knows how this feedback loop works, or should work. as a matter of
interest if you use keypad plus to read the doc, does it work then? That
should not move the  position in the file but still reads it. Brian

Just make sure when you go to do it under that section it is for the NVDA folder. In that section you will notice other folders they have settings in them for other programs do not touch them.

It should only uninstall the appdata where the settings are kept which is for the installer version. Usually if I have a good working portable copy, I will uninstall the installer version of NVDA then remove the appdata. Sometimes it is wise to reboot the computer so that all those settings are gone. Then, reinstall NVDA from the good portable copy of NVDA. There is a menu for it under tools, to do the installer version from your portable copy. Just follow the directions to install it. Is your portable version just the exe version on a USB stick or did you make a directory and make a shortcut to start it? When you remove the one from appdata it won't affect the portable version that you are using.

one of the folders will be for nvda. you can either delete it out or go into the folder locate the nvda.ini file then rename it old which some do but find it easier just to delete the directory. Then use the alt f4 key to close that window. then reinstall from the portable copy..

This issue also pops up with JAWS. Developers want to know, what needs to be done to fix it. I have no idea. Hello Gene,

Yes the portable copy works for the font stuff.
Just to clarify, if I do as you say, is this going to uninstall NVDA? or just the appdata, I believe that, if I just uninstalled NVDA and then re installed it, I would have the same problem because my app data will still be there, I can certainly do as you say but will need to be prepared for NVDA not to work and have another screen reader ready so that I can install NVDA again. .

Sorry if I sound thick, but I would like to know what I am getting myself into.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

Best Regards, Jim.

Hi

If you want to delete the app data? for nvda press the windows key and the letter R then type %appdata% then press the enter key.

one of the folders will be for nvda. you can either delete it out or go into the folder locate the nvda.ini file then rename it old which some do but find it easier just to delete the directory. Then use the alt  f4 key to close that window. then reinstall from the portable copy..

does the font stuff work on the portable copy correctly?

Well make a portable coppy of nvda and run it.

then go to %appdata% find the nvda folder and nuke it.

next uninstall and reinstall nvda but the first option should wipe your
settings.

I had issues with flash fxp that just didn't work, and I just ended up
removing the settings file folder which came from older backups, redid
the settings and put that back in.

Hi Anthony

Use the h and shift+h key to jump between the section headings within the manual then you can just read the parts you are interested in using the arrow keys.  Use NVDA key+downarrow to start NVDA reading continuously.  When continuous reading is in effect, you can use the shift key like a pause/play button or the control key to stop continuous reading mode.

To move around within a table control, you navigate using Control+alt+arrow key commands.  Up/down arrows are used to navigate rows and left-right for columns.  Don’t forget, you must hold down control+Alt then press the appropriate arrow key to move around a table.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Anthony

Could you explain further what you mean by Virtual version 2.1? Virtual what?

The NVDA manual is not on the General menu.  You need to press N?VDA+n to open the top level menu, arrow down to Help and press enter.

Cheers

Chris

SPL Help? Might need the addon to fix this?

Christopher-Mark Gilland <clgilland07@...>

Guys,

If anyone, anyone at all, on this list, anyone! uses the most recent version of Station Playlist Studio either pro or Standard, doesn't matter, either with, or without the NVDA addon, and is connecting to an Icecast2 server, not a shoutcast server, then will you please write me off list? I desperetly need some help with NVDA and getting this damn thing configured. Nothing I do's working, and I suspect, part of it is the encoder config dialog reading like crap.

I just need a few pointers.

I can further explain when you write me privately.

Chris.

Hi Pranav,

I've never had a lot of success with Grammarly with the keyboard (for a mouse user, it works great, it highlights grammatical errors in many places, including forms you are filling in on the web).  A similar service, ProWritingAid, has a screen reader accessible interface: https://prowritingaid.com/en/Analysis/Editor?screenReaderFriendly=true

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi David,

Apologies for the delay in replying.  We are working on making it a bit easier to find, but you should be able to log in to your account at http://nvaccess.org/my-account and then go to downloads.

Sorry for the difficulties, please do bear with us while we slowly work on updates to the site!

Hello.

Several months ago, I purchased a copy of the NVDA with Microsoft Word tutorial from the NV Access shop. I have since downloaded the epub-formatted file and have used it with Voice Dream Reader on my iPhone. However, I wanted to download the Word version to be used in MS Word on my Windows desktop and, even after logging into the shop from checkout, finding the downloadable version seems nearly impossible. I guess I'm wondering what the procedure is for redownloading an already purchased version of the tutorial from the NV Access shop. Many thanks.

Re: Incorrect Keystroke in Excel Training

Quentin Christensen

Hi Rob,

Thanks so much for pointing this out!  It's true that ideally any errors would be picked up prior to release, however at least with electronic material, making a correction like this is relatively easy to do.  I have fixed the master copy here and will repackage it so that as of shortly, anyone who downloads the material (either those who purchase it in the future, or those who have already purchased it who download it from now) will have the updated version.

Thank you again for picking up the error, and indeed, if you do come across anything else that doesn't look right, please do let me know!

Kind regards

Quentin.

The text states:

To set the column containing row headers, move to the first cell that contains a row heading. Next, press NVDA+control+r. In the plant example, column A contains the name of the plant in each row. Setting this as the row headers means NVDA reads the name of each plant while navigating down the rows.

This keystroke is incorrect. the paragraph should read:

To set the column containing row headers, move to the first cell that contains a row heading. Next, press NVDA+shift+r. In the plant example, column A contains the name of the plant in each row. Setting this as the row headers means NVDA reads the name of each plant while navigating down the rows.

The text should be corrected, or should have an erata page at leats, with this information.

Re: Incorrect Information in Excel

Quentin Christensen

Hi Rob,

Sorry to chime in late, but glad the others were able to help you!  Re reporting cell coordinates, from memory, the original behaviour of that setting a number of years ago was that it only affected tables in Word and the Web.  Excel coordinates were always announced.  In 2012.2 it was changed so that NVDA respected that setting in Excel, meaning if it isn't checked, you no longer get coordinates reported in Excel.

Kind regards

Quentin.
