         Do you have NVDA installed?  If so, bring up the NVDA Menu, Help, User Guide and go to section 12.1 which covers the Freedom Scientific Focus and PAC Mate series and answers your questions in some detail.

Sorry, it has taken me a while to get back to this issue.

Yes, the log file has some errors, and the Code Factory add-on didn't start this time.

ERROR - external:synthDrivers._cfnvdainterface._initalize (22:47:18):

AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute '_CallAfterId'

ERROR - synthDriverHandler.setSynth (22:47:18):

CodeFactoryException: C:\Users\Computer\AppData\Roaming\nvda\addons\codefactory\File\VocalizerNVDA.DLL is not valid

I'm not fully understanding how the log file works, and what it
keeps track of exactly. 

Is this the log file for the most recent running of NVDA? 

Also not sure what you mean by setting the log in level to input/output,
can you explain?

Does the NVDA log file give any messages indicating why it has failed to load the Vocalizer voice?  Try setting the loggin level to input/output to see if any messages are output.

It is set to automatically save the configuration on exit, and I have also clicked

"save configuration" during my sessions.

It sounds like you are not saving the settings before you exit nvda

If you open the nvda menu and select save configuration after you have set it to the code factory synth

That should solve the issue

I don't get that message, I just hear the default voice that NVDA comes with originally

instead of the Vocalizer voice.

When you start the computer and nvda runs Do you get the message its not activated?

Or you just assuming its not activated for whatever reason?

 

And you have entered the key correctly with no more than three activationsper key

 

Then I suggest contact code factory regarding this issue to see if they can help

If i remember right there is a menu for the vocaliser voice and off that is a area where you can put in your number to register it. this is from the main nvda menu.

You just arrow down from preferences then you will see the menu then the sub menu will come off it.

Just make sure when you go to do it under that section it is for the NVDA folder. In that section you will notice other folders they have settings in them for other programs do not touch them.

If you want to delete the app data? for nvda press the windows key and the letter R then type %appdata% then press the enter key.

 

one of the folders will be for nvda. you can either delete it out or go into the folder locate the nvda.ini file then rename it old which some do but find it easier just to delete the directory. Then use the alt  f4 key to close that window. then reinstall from the portable copy..

 

does the font stuff work on the portable copy correctly?

Well make a portable coppy of nvda and run it.

then go to %appdata% find the nvda folder and nuke it.

next uninstall and reinstall nvda but the first option should wipe your
settings.

I had issues with flash fxp that just didn't work, and I just ended up
removing the settings file folder which came from older backups, redid
the settings and put that back in.

I'm slightly surprised that this appears to be a serious question (do you
*really* think that NVaccess would facilitate the official distribution of
addons containing malware code?)

However, https://addons.nvda-project.org/processes.en.html outlines the
process all addons have to go through before being approved for publication on
the site. You will notice that item 3 includes "security implications".

Only addons which pass step 4 are then released as "development" versions.

Add ons classified as under development wouldn't be made publicly available if they had malware.  I would expect that some add ons classified as under development and in the under development section would have bugs.  but on the official NVDA add ons page, whether under development or not, those who work on and develop NVDA wouldn't make malicious add ons available for public use under any circumstances.

I have had no problems using the add on.  I've used it a number of times today.  Just because something is not designated as stable doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work well.

Introducing Enhanced Touch Gestures 17.07 #addonrelease

Hi all,

 

I’m delighted to announce the immediate release of Enhanced Touch Gestures version 17.07 (aka Project Ailee). Version 17.07 of this touchscreen add-on for NVDA packs tons of new features and changes, some of which are documented below.

Notable additions include:

  • Touch command passthrough: there are times when you need to interact directly with a touchscreen as though NVDA is not running. You can now do so by doing two things: assign a command to a script that turns on touch passthrough (you can find this under Input Gestures dialog), then go to a new dialog named Touch Interaction in NVDA preferences menu and configure “pause NVDA’s touch commands” option between 3 and 10 seconds (default is 5).
  • Touch keyboard and standard versus touch typing: In iOS and certain other platforms, when pressing keys on the touch keyboard, you have an option between touch typing versus standard typing where you perform double tap or lift your finger to press keys, respectively. After installing version 17.07 of Enhanced Touch Gestures, standard typing will be in effect. To change back to touch typing, open Touch Interaction dialog and check “touch typing” checkbox.
  • Due to changes made in NVDA, this add-on will now require NVDA 2017.1 or later.

 

Known issues: Touch Interaction may appear under NVDA preferences menu on computers with no touch support. I plan to fix this as part of 17.07.1.

It is evidently referring to an add on.  But which one?  If the person doesn't know the exact name, what does it do?  I think I read recently that there is a virtualize window add on.  Is that what is being referred to?

I just tried the add on.  I didn't test it thoroughly but it worked correctly when I tested it in Notepad and when copying a file to the clipboard.  As I've said for a long time, if JAWS and System Access can do this, and know when material is actually being copied, pasted, etc., then I doubt it is that difficult to do. 

 

My impression over the years is that it is a matter of ideology for the main developer or developers.  They claim that a screen-reader shouldn't give information that is not available to sighted users.  That may be true in general.  But ideology, when too rigidly held to, produces undesirable results at times.  And I'd bet that sighted people do get some sort of notice.  I don't know what it is.  Does the material appear different in some way or does something else happen?  At any rate, finally, this is being addressed through an add on, though it should be in NVDA itself. 

 

I would say, regarding the add on itself, that the word text and item are unnecessary.  The user should know whether he/she is copying text or a file.  I don't want to be told what I should already know.

I genuinely thank all of you NVDA wizards responding to this thread. Hope I
can find an easy fix.  The individuals I work with are age 55 and older.
The simpler the better.  So using the control-v or control-c commands would
be much easier.  A few of the clients have just recently accepted their
vision is getting to low to read a screen.  I cannot express enough my
humble gratitude for all of the work that gone in to this superior
screenreader for reaching this level of accuracy for non print readers.
I've been using it off and on since it first started.  Now I am urging the
seniors I work with to  use it since the other screen readers cost quite a
bit for their fixed incomes.  Thanks for reading this long email.

I think its not an item unless its been added recently. There is certainly
an add on to do this, but its dumb, ie it does not actually check if its
worked, so just reports keys pressed.
 its been a long campaign on mine to get this built in but if I recall the
problem of getting this to only do it when appropriate and though be a
verified cut or copy, was not something trivial to achieve without inside
knowledge of windows code.
 I'd be interested in what others say in this thread.
