NVDA with Oracle PL SQL Developer

Lucas ROBINETT <robinettl@...>

Hello,
Longtime NVDA user but brand new to this group, so thanks for having me. I cannot get NVDA to work properly with PL SQL Developer. I consulted Oracle's accessibility page for the app and it states it should be fully accessible provided Java AccessBridge is installed and enabled. I'm on Win 10, have the latest versions of both the 32- and 64-bit JRE installed. jAB appears to be installed correctly and enabled for both versions of the JRE. I followed the directions I found in the message archive for this group for enabling JAB and believe all files are where they should be on the system. Other Java apps are working fine.
In PL, some GUI items are announced but none of the menus nor any of their sub menus are announced. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Luke

NVDA doesn't announce copy and paste except when in browse mode.  There is an add on that announces copy and paste, but it doesn't actually announce this because the operations have been performed.  It is equivalent to a key label and only confirms that the correct keys have been pressed.  Therefore, you may hear copy and paste when the operation was not performed.

For small amounts of text, you can check to see if copying occurred by using the command NVDA key c, which will read small amounts of text on the clipboard.  It's something like up to five hundred characters.  For larger amounts, you will hear an announcement about how many characters were copied but it won't be read.  The feature tells you nothing about what has been copied if you are copying files or folders to the clipboard.  it says, "No text on clipboard."

Hi everyone,

I have not been able to make NVDA consistently announce paste or copy on the computers I am using in class with students.

My computer does, however, several of the 16 students I work with will not. Can someone guide me to the correct area in preferences?  I thought I’d went through everything. But obviously, I am missing something.

Thanks for any guidance in advance.

I don't believe it's possible to move messages into the inbox.

It's where new messages arrive, and messages can be moved from the inbox into
other folders, but I don't think you're allowed to put them into the inbox
other than by downloading them from your mail server.

Lol! I guess you do use it! I've had that happen to me a time or two,
and the only way I was able to straighten that one out is to hit
control-tab key to move between the panes that are in there. Thunder

Hi Rosemarie,

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. I was suppose to get back to you
last Friday night; however, I got stopped in my tracks by a nasty bout
of tonsillitis. I think I'm on the end of it now. I use Mozilla
Thunderbird as a substitute email client for whenever outlook goes on
the fritz. It holds its end of the bargain pretty well. Have you tried
that one? There's also an email program in the Mozilla sea monkey
internet suite, and I think there's a program out there call P M mail.
I've never used the latter. Hope this helps, and my apologies again for
not getting back sooner.

Hi Rosemarie,

It helps Absolutely! I've been doing some checking, and I believe this
will work. Go to the system tray and from there arrow over to the
speakers button. Once there press the context menu button and arrow
down to the sounds option and press enter on that.

If you've ever been in the sound schemes tree view, you will recognize
it. From here, you can tab over to the list of sound events to see if
the mil notification sound is active or not. if it's not, you can assign
the windows default sound to play, or browse for the sound of your
choice. If the default sound is there, you can test it to see if it
works, and if so, apply it. If it doesn't function properly, try to
reassign it. If that doesn't work, test out a sound of your choice. If
you have a sound library of custom sounds, use one of those. Hopefully
this helps. I'm going to be on the road for the holiday, but I will
check in later to see how things are going.

I hope this clarifies it.

I don't regard anything shared via a Dropbox link or similar as being an
official "Addon under Development".

People can write any addons they like and publish them privately, but since
the phrase "Addons under Development" is specifically used by the offical
download site https://addons.nvda-project.org I assumed that's what the
original poster was asking about.

The other answer of course is that "the security of your computer is your
responsibility", so people should run a virus / malware / phishing scanner on
anything that comes to them from any source at all.

process all addons have to go through before being approved for publication on
the site. You will notice that item 3 includes "security implications".

Only addons which pass step 4 are then released as "development" versions.

When a add on is classified as a Addons under development has it been

I was a little confused to note that a lot of Hp machines running windows 7 seem to have touch support. I know nothing about how this works, but would suspect its not the same as in windows 10 in any way, and is best ignored if using nvda.
The computers seem to be either integrated monitor and computer or laptops from HP.

Subject: [nvda] Introducing Enhanced Touch Gestures 17.07 #AddonRelease

Hi all,

I'm delighted to announce the immediate release of Enhanced Touch Gestures
version 17.07 (aka Project Ailee). Version 17.07 of this touchscreen add-on
for NVDA packs tons of new features and changes, some of which are
documented below.

The new version can be found at:

https://github.com/josephsl/enhancedTouchGestures/releases/tag/17.07

Notable additions include:

* Touch command passthrough: there are times when you need to interact
directly with a touchscreen as though NVDA is not running. You can now do so
by doing two things: assign a command to a script that turns on touch
passthrough (you can find this under Input Gestures dialog), then go to a
new dialog named Touch Interaction in NVDA preferences menu and configure
"pause NVDA's touch commands" option between 3 and 10 seconds (default is
5).
* Touch keyboard and standard versus touch typing: In iOS and certain
other platforms, when pressing keys on the touch keyboard, you have an
option between touch typing versus standard typing where you perform double
tap or lift your finger to press keys, respectively. After installing
version 17.07 of Enhanced Touch Gestures, standard typing will be in effect.
To change back to touch typing, open Touch Interaction dialog and check
"touch typing" checkbox.
* Due to changes made in NVDA, this add-on will now require NVDA
2017.1 or later.

Known issues: Touch Interaction may appear under NVDA preferences menu on
computers with no touch support. I plan to fix this as part of 17.07.1.

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Joseph

Well you now have two add ons to play with in the thread. The one I posted is dumb the other looks mor likely to be its replacement in due course.
I'd certainly not advise loading both at the same time though!

I genuinely thank all of you NVDA wizards responding to this thread. Hope I
can find an easy fix. The individuals I work with are age 55 and older.
The simpler the better. So using the control-v or control-c commands would
be much easier. A few of the clients have just recently accepted their
vision is getting to low to read a screen. I cannot express enough my
humble gratitude for all of the work that gone in to this superior
screenreader for reaching this level of accuracy for non print readers.
I've been using it off and on since it first started. Now I am urging the
seniors I work with to use it since the other screen readers cost quite a
bit for their fixed incomes. Thanks for reading this long email.

I think its not an item unless its been added recently. There is certainly
an add on to do this, but its dumb, ie it does not actually check if its
worked, so just reports keys pressed.
its been a long campaign on mine to get this built in but if I recall the
problem of getting this to only do it when appropriate and though be a
verified cut or copy, was not something trivial to achieve without inside
knowledge of windows code.
I'd be interested in what others say in this thread.

Hi everyone,

I have not been able to make NVDA consistently announce paste or copy
on the computers I am using in class with students.

My computer does, however, several of the 16 students I work with will
not.
Can someone guide me to the correct area in preferences? I thought
I'd went through everything. But obviously, I am missing something.

Thanks for any guidance in advance.
