Remove XP support. It was marked EOL way back in 2014. People have had more than enough time to transition.

Until further notice, I advise Windows XP users to either use version 16.08 or disable the add-on. If you do downgrade to 16.08, you’ll lose uptime announcement (NVDA+Shift+7) and bug fix for disk status command (fixes introduced in 17.02).

There are several ways of resolving this:

• Bundle an old version of psutil package with the add-on. This may introduce compatibility problems.
• Disable support for XP: catch the error and tell XP users that some add-on features aren’t compatible.
• Remove support for XP. However, this runs into issues for those who rely on XP.

If it is not accessible now, that doesn't mean it won't be.  Others may be able to tell you how to get information on whether and how long it may be before accessibility is introduced.  You can probably have your money returned, if desired assuming accessibility will take long enough for the app not to be of value to a blind user for more than just a short time from now.

Hello all,
The concept seems great, but unfortunately this app is totally not accessible, at least in my case. I couldn't even install it to the end, since all dialogues weren't read by any of my two screenreaders. And when I think that only two months ago I bought a one-year subscription to Google Drive. How disappointing! I'll now have to look for another backup solution.

Oh that sucks! They change it on you. You pay good money to use that app. Now you can't use it! What a rip!

There are some apps which will keep the computer from going into screensaver mode or standby mode while that particular app is being used, even if no mouse or keyboard activity is occurring. Why could not this be done with screen readers?

It's not a bug.  Windows doesn't know to keep the screen-reader from coming up because no keys are being depressed.  Manufacturers have said for decades that screen-savers should not be on when using a screen-reader.

Actually, I do consider this a bug, because as long as my screen reader is talking, the machine shouldn't go to sleep, it's still doing something, even if it's not visible to a sighted person.

Apple is bad with this too, and it's something that has irritated me for years.

Emergency advisory for Windows XP and Resource Monitor users: please use version 16.08 or disable the add-on

Re: Google Drive new version mystery

Felix G.

Hello,
the reason for this update is that it has now become a full-featured backup solution which can backup and sync folders from the computer, not just within the Google Drive directory tree.
Once the dust settles this will be a good thing actually.
Kind regards,
Felix

What a bloomin mess. Somebody needs to do more testing.
So how can I reinstall the old version without it keeping on saying I'm
running an old version and wanting to update it all the time. I only want to
swap files  from one folder. the new version even if the dialogue text was
accessible which its not and even if it did not pop up at every  start up

instead of falling over, which it won't, its overkill.

How do they know the screen-reader has become active?  Unless something has changed in JAWS or Windows, JAWS stops when a screen-reader becomes active.  I can't rule out that something hasn't changed in later versions of Windows or in later versions of JAWS.  I'm skeptical, but we'll see what others say.

You didn't say you activated the add button before you activated the ok button.  In unfamiliar dialogs. look through everything and let everything that might have any relevance to what you are doing read completely.

Hello Brian,

Can you explain how you changed those pronounciations? I just went in
to the symbols pronounciation, changed bang to exclaimation saved,
even restarted NVDA, nothing changed. Can you export your symbols and
import them elsewhere?

Thanks.
Dave.

There are two exclamation marks. One that NVDA determines ends a
sentence and a general use one, that possibly is used when you press
it on the keyboard. Change both for best results.

because sayAll does not stop after activating screen saver for jaws users.

hello every one.
i remember that recievd some messages in the lists which people told
nvda says unknown in browsers and becomes silent.
i found the solution!
i new the cause before, but i thought that its solved in the newer
versions of nvda, but unfortunately yesterday i realized not!
just find screen saver in the control panel and set it to none.
screen saver causes this problem for nvda and the issue still persists
unfortunately even in version 2017.2.
did someone report this issue or i should report it in github?
i waite for your help and feedback and God bless you all!

Hi Derek,

A user I reported the error, SSLError ssl certificate verify failed while date information is retrieved via https, that Weather Plus uses to work, as described in the readme of addon.
To work around this rare case (only one report) I used the flag context=ssl.SSLContext(ssl.PROTOCOL_TLSv1) con url2.urlopen()
That is used from WP only and exclusively in the case described above.
A similar case was dealt with in:

What do you mean by using ssl only if it fails?

using NVDA with outlook 2016

Hi in Jaws I have outlook set up to when going through my message list.

To tell me all the information that I want to hear except for like it says after it tells me what time the massage came in at.

Like it telling me that the message was like 13 KB or whatever it is.

Now I don’t get this in Jaws 18.

But how can you not get this spoken in NVDA if at all?

Well its interesting this is going on now.

Probably a sign from the lord or something, my grandpa is going through
the final stages of heart failier.

The part where you are past dieing but not dead yet the lingering part
in the hospital when you would much like to go to heaven on your own
terms but now unable to do so.

This is the stage my grandpa is at right now.

Really brings it home when the last of your grandparents generation
goes, sort of brings home that your parents are not far off and then
well at some point you will be next its humbling in a way.

I didn't know this person on here as such but rarely do I engage in any
conversations outside the list.

I wasn't going to chime in but well life seems to be throwing vary big
wrenches in the cogs right now.

Oh well life is life.
