Re: wraping to top of web page

While I also thought about it a while ago, I'm quite comfortable with just using ctrl + home, and then E again, and, like you say, it is at times, more convenient to just know you've reached the last one.

OTOH, what might be nice would be the ability to use the elements listing dialogue for form elements at times?

Both Window Eyes and Jaws have a feature where for example if you press
the e key to get to a edit box and you keeping pressing e to get to the
next edit box when there are no more edit boxes it will wrap back to the
top of the page.  This somewhat handy when searching for all edit boxes
on a web page.  I find that there is no way to do this NVDA as far as I
can tell.

Has this function ever been considered for an addition to NVDA?

As a long term Window Eyes user I am now using NVDA as my primary screen
reader with Jaws being used very little and WE not being used at all.

Thanks

I've been working with online Bible a lot in the past, however that was back when I was using JAWS. Is there a particular reason why you belief you're in need of an add-on?

I don't know anything about a Bible or an online Bible program called The Online Bible.  The Internet has lots of sites you can use to read the Bible, see commentary, and perhaps do other things as well.  I haven't researched all the things you can do.  There are Bible programs you can use on your computer as well that others can discuss.  If you let us know what you want to do and if there is any specific translation of the Bible you want, you might get much better help.

Magnifiers and NVDA

Hello all:

I’m a new assistive technology instructor here at the Center For The Visually Impaired in Daytona Beach Florida.

I have a client who may benefit from both a Screen reader such as NVDA as well as a magnifier such as Zoomtext.

Is there a possibility that such a magnifier can be used in conjunction with NVDA? If so, where can I find any documentation for such a setup?

I believe at some time in the future the client may need to depend on a screen reader only; I’m just exploring all avenues at this time.

Hi Cearbhall,

I see what you mean.  There are a couple of other places in Excel that do that as well - Either the selected cells, or the current cell are listed in that "refers to" edit box, and all selected.  For some reason, in many of its edit boxes, when text is selected, all we can see is "blank".  When you get to that edit box, press F2 to go into edit mode, then press an arrow to unselect everything.  If you don't press F2 then as soon as you press an arrow, it will move the focus.

Another way of naming a cell or range, is to select either the cell or range you want to name, then press alt+f3, which takes you to the name box, you can then type a name and press ENTER.  Because that does it directly, it can be quicker, but also doesn't give you the list of existing names to check against first.  You can down arrow in the edit box and it will go through the existing names.  Pressing ENTER on any name will move the highlight to that named cell or range.

I can capture the formula using the NVDA screen capture keys from the display of the formula under control-F3 and paste it into Notepad for amendment.

The only way I can edit it is to press alt-r and then mess around with the arrow keys until I get “Sheet1!a1 or something similar. This code is nothing like the actual formula that I would have put into the “Refers To” box and which I can see on the listing of the Defined name using control+F3. I backspace all of this until NVDA is silent. Then I go to my formula in Notepad -something like:

=”B” & Match(“Totals”, $B:$B , 0)

Which gives me the address of a particular cell that can move around as work proceeds on the sheet.

I then paste this formula blind into the “Refers to” edit field and tab to “Close” to save the edit. I can see the result in the listing under control-F3.

It would be so much easier if I could actually edit it in the edit box! Have you any solution to this?

customize braille output with abbreviations?

Simone Dal Maso

Hello,
Do you know if there are some methods to make abbreviations in braille? Here is an example:
in thunderbird message list, you can find word like "grouped", "attachment", "read", "replied", etc.
It is very annoying to read these terms in Braille, because they fill the display with long words.
For example, instead of attachments, I'd like to read [atchm].
Is it difficult to implement this on NVDA?
Thanks.
