Re: Magnifiers and NVDA
David Moore
Hi John and all, Here is an idea: I follow close the Zoom text and JAWS combined, Zoom Text Fusion. Why not come out with a free screen reader that has speech and a high degree of magnification in the same screen reader. Maybe we could do this with NVDA. This is what Narrator and Magnifier give you, but Narrator is not a full-fledged Screen reader, yet, anyway. Since there a lot of people with mouse user low vision, who need a lot of magnification, speech and magnification, all in one, might be in order. I know that Serotech has tried this with their System Access. You can do both with it. David Moore Sent from Mail for Windows 10

Interesting. Why would a client need ZoomText and NVDA? The new merger of ZoomText with Jaws makes the command sets different. I am low vision and use Microsoft Magnifier and NVDA with a combination of mouse and cursor controls for review by speech, while using some vision. Magnifier has some new features that make it more helpful in Windows 10 latest version.
It really depends on how little or how fast the vision will become low functioning. Learning the new ZoomText with speech would be helpful for little vision and job settings where complex software is used.

Hello all: I’m a new assistive technology instructor here at the Center For The Visually Impaired in Daytona Beach Florida. I have a client who may benefit from both a Screen reader such as NVDA as well as a magnifier such as Zoomtext. Is there a possibility that such a magnifier can be used in conjunction with NVDA? If so, where can I find any documentation for such a setup? I believe at some time in the future the client may need to depend on a screen reader only; I’m just exploring all avenues at this time.

Re: wrapping to top of web page

with any such feature it would be good if any user had the option to enable or disable the wrapping. As I said in my initial post for me it was a nice feature. Sorry for misspelling wrapping in the subject line of my initial posting.

Hello guys, As someone in a similar situation involving WE, I noticed the lack of wrapping as well. Like Jake, though, I have gotten used to ctrl+home and shift+e for moving to the top or moving back. I think that I actually like knowing when I'm at the bottom of the page instead of automatically wraping....it has been a change, though. I also agree that the page elements dialogue might be nice but it's not too frustrating to not have it so far. FWIW, Sally

I think the release date for NVDA 17.03 will be some time in the fall. They usually release new versions every 3 months or so. Hope this helps. Tony

Re: wraping to top of web page

While I also thought about it a while ago, I'm quite comfortable with just using ctrl + home, and then E again, and, like you say, it is at times, more convenient to just know you've reached the last one.
OTOH, what might be nice would be the ability to use the elements
listing dialogue for form elements at times?
Stay well

Re: wraping to top of web page
Gene
Whether wrapping is worth adding depends, in my
opinion on the following determination. If, for example, you look at all
edit fields, and get to the bottom, if you want to move back one or two edit
fields and there may be five or six or more on the page, using shift e is far
more convenient than having a wrap which puts you back at the top again.
there are times when wrapping will return you to the first edit field, which may
be the one you want to use. But my question is, how often does it result,
instead, in more inconvenience to get back to a field you want to use farther
down the page? Unless it is known that wrapping leads to significantly
more convenience than inconvenience, it might be worth adding. But if this
is not known, then perhaps surveying users is in order.

the e key to get to a edit box and you keeping pressing e to get to the next edit box when there are no more edit boxes it will wrap back to the top of the page. This somewhat handy when searching for all edit boxes on a web page. I find that there is no way to do this NVDA as far as I can tell. Has this function ever been considered for an addition to NVDA? As a long term Window Eyes user I am now using NVDA as my primary screen reader with Jaws being used very little and WE not being used at all. Thanks

Bible Seeker from the below address is very good with NVDA. The site has over a dozen bible translations and the search is accessible. They say the latest version is 2.03 from 2017. I don't know why that is. I have 2.03 from 2015. I would assume it's the same program. The size for download is the same. http://bible_seeker.en.downloadastro.com/

Re: NVDA and the Online Bible

I don't know anything about a Bible or an online
Bible program called The Online Bible. The Internet has lots of sites you
can use to read the Bible, see commentary, and perhaps do other things as
well. I haven't researched all the things you can do. There are
Bible programs you can use on your computer as well that others can
discuss. If you let us know what you want to do and if there is any
specific translation of the Bible you want, you might get much better
help.
