Maybe the starting of new topics should only be allowed from the web interface,

But keep you can still reply via email

As its blatantly obvious that people are so lazy than rather than opening a web browser and do a quick groups.io or google search in a matter of seconds

They would ratter wait 1 minute, 1 hour even days or forever!

Rather than open a web browser, unbelievable! 😃

hi Gene

it sounds like the same problem with nvda saying unknown or pane, but have asked him a few questions to see if it has come back on another persons machine.

I guess when he comes back he can fill in some spots that he did not mention in the email apart from the quick navigation keys not working.

I am about to post a attachment to the ticket and hopefully it can be caught or fixed.

When you are on a web page, you hear the title in the title bar.  The same title is on the web page itself below the navigation links.  Search for a word or phrase that won't be expected to be on the page to any extent.  this is a useful method to find the beginning of an article or in similar situations.  If you are on a page where this method is unlikely to work, such as on a home page, search for something that is far more likely to appear below the navigation links than in them such as the word "the."  If you need to find a search field, search for the word search and look above and below the word for the edit field.  it's usually above.  Searching for other information such as the word listen when looking for a listen link on a radio station site is a good and may be a very good technique.  And this technique should be used whether navigation keys work or not.  For example, on a newspaper site, searching for edito is a much more efficient way to find the editorial link than using quick navigation keys. Most of the time, you don't have to search for more than the for letters of a word such as list for listen.  In the case of the word editorial, edito, five letters, works better because searching for edit may cause the search to stop more often before the word editorial is found.  It may stop on something like letters to the editor or editor's picks or public editor.  But in general, as I said, four letters is enough for efficient use.

hi

if it is the same thing i had a few weeks ago the following will happen. NVDA quick navigation keys will not work in any browser i think only edge.

if you tab along the task bar where the running application section is nvda will say unknown. When you go to use the applications key nvda will not speak as you arrow down the menu and a few other weird things.

If it is the same one can you try and catch it with a log but you will need to do the following first.

In nvdas general settings set the log level to debug it is usually set to info. Then tab down to the ok button and save your settings it may do it automatically?

Next start a fresh copy of nvda in other words turn it off then back on.

Go to the sections where you are having the problem nvda will record your steps. Go into your browsers etc then after that has been done save the log it can be found under the tools section then view log. Press the alt key then save it to yyour desk top. it will need to be added to a ticket which i can find and send later.

If this sounds like the problems you are having in the next email i will put into the email the steps that fixed mine from that ticket.

Subject: [nvda] IMPORTANT ADVISORY: if you are using NVDA 2017.2, do NOT use
Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshots

Dear NVDA community,

The following critical advisory applies to people using Windows 10 App
Essentials add-on with NVDA versions other than latest next or master
snapshots:

Starting from late July 2017, I (the author of the add-on) began warning
people via various channels that they should NOT use Windows 10 App
Essentials development snapshots until NVDA 2017.3 is released, citing
massive code changes required to support the upcoming release. I would like
to reiterate this warning:

If you are using NVDA 2017.2, old master snapshots prior to August 2017
updates, or old next snapshots prior to June 2017, you should better check
the update channel for Windows 10 App Essentials. If the update channel is
set to development, please switch to stable channel, press Enter to save
changes, and press Control+NVDA+C to save settings. In case the add-on isn't
working or there is no 'Windows 10 App Essentials" in NVDA preferences menu,
chances are that the add-on is struggling to load certain components that
are only available in NVDA 2017.3. In this case, you need to manually
install stable build, which can be found at our add-ons website at
addons.nvda-project.org. The latest stable build fixes this so you'll get
updates from stable channel. Even after installing stable build,
double-check add-on update channel to make sure "stable" is the selected
channel and be sure to save settings.

The following components are only available in NVDA 2017.3 and later, some
of which came from this add-on and some the add-on now relies on:

* Search suggestion sounds.
* Live region change announcements.
* Detecting live text changes in Microsoft Edge and other apps.

Also, as I announced a few days ago, I will release Windows 10 App
Essentials 17.08.2 next week that will:

* Present a warning message if you do try to change from stable to
development channel.
* Be the last stable version to run on NVDA 2017.2 and earlier.

I will affirm my promise that I will wait at least a week after release of
NVDA 2017.3 before releasing the next version of the add-on that requires
the upcoming NVDA release. If things go as planned, version 17.09 of Windows
10 App Essentials will hit the air around Labor Day weekend in the United
States (first Monday of September).

Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

I am using NVDA 2017.2 with the latest Win 10. I also use Classic Shell which allows you to use first letter navigation on the start menu, just like you had in Win 7.

After tabbing to the Start button, press enter and the start page comes up with Cortana window, etc.

Please Another problem needing help

Sakina

Dear all,

I have just managed to update my window 10 creaters update as my turn came as I did check the version and it did happen from 1603 to 1703

I know very little but am learning.

Now the only problem I am encountering is that when I open my outlook to read my emails, it lets me read few and stops by saying that Microsoft has encountered a problem and will notify me if the solution is found. Press alt c to cancel

I then have to keep restarting my outlook again and again as it lets me read few more and cuts off.

I am still using Microsoft office 2003

All else is working fine.

Please I do not know what Gene and Rosmary are talking about installing and un installing this stable version

If that is my problem, can someone help me with step by step instructions please.

I hope the above does make sense in explaining myself.

Thanking you all again.

With many regards always

Sakina

No, I want to run my real copy in admin mode then revert, or maybe I can just keep it there for xsplit broadcaster to run correctly, I dunno.. I could use the portalbe copy but  I will have to keep that updated along wiht the snaps I use.

Hi,
If I'm reading this thread correctly, what Sarah might be referring to is a way to launch the portable copy of NVDA with admin privileges (UI Access).
To Sarah: whoever is asking you this question, please tell that person that the only "real" way of running NVDA with admin privileges is installing it.

Hi,

To my knowledge, I don't think so, which is why I've always put the shortcut on the desktop.

Hi,

If you have NVDA on the desktop, place the focus there and hit the
context menu, from there arrow down to the run as administrator option
hit it and when prompted press alt-y.  Should do the trick.

I'm using classicShell, along with the same latest version of windows 10,
NVDA next snapshot, and windows 10 app essentials, and, it renders both it's
version of windows 10 start menu, as well as the additional normal start
menu under it without issues.

If running classicShell - you can install it via ninite.com - then if you
bring up menu, and arrow down once from search box, then there's a submenu
for the normal windows 10 start menu - I think it's the normal version since
have pretty much stuck to classicShell under windows 10 from scratch.

Stay well

* Search suggestion sounds.
* Live region change announcements.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Vivaldi Web Browser

Where does it say its for visually impaired users?

I cant find any reference to it anywhere on their site

Re: Vivaldi Web Browser

I've heard of it but I haven't useed it.  Aside from the specific question about captchas, when I see a specialized adaptive program when there are accessible standard programs used by sighted users, my question always is whether any functions are not available that are in the standard programs.  There are times when special programs are desirable but I've seen far too many instances of special programs not having features that standard accessible programs have.

Hi NVDA Users,

Please check this browser specially made for visually impaired persons.

Up to what extend it is accessible for VI?

Is it fully compatible with NVDA?

Under Tools menue Captcha option is there.

Can we use it to solve captcha problems?

Kindly throw some light on it.
