Re: Vivaldi Web Browser: First Impressions

But is there any reason to use it?  I looked at the description of the browser on the web site and most of the things discussed seem to be of interest to sighted users and of little or no benefit to blind users.  The one thing I saw in the description is the notes feature and that is available in Chrome so that advantage may be of short duration.

Subject: [nvda] Vivaldi Web Browser: First Impressions

Hi Group,

With all this talk about Vivaldi web browser, I thought I would give it
a try.  It has promise.  Quick key navigation works; the interface
reminds me of Google Chrome; the text is read quite easily as in other
accessible browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer.

There are a series of issues that make it a bit clumsy.  The menus are
similar to Google Chrome.  There is one menu with sub menus which
involve the use of the tree view type navigation system. This isn't  a
big problem once you get use to it.  The main problem I am having is
setting the browser up.  The settings panel is all buttons.  While the
screen changes, it is difficult to keep track of the input and just what
buttons to press to accept the changes.  In other words, there is no OK
button and you really don't know if you have successfully made a change
until you close the settings panel and try the changes out.

In addition, unless there is a way to remove this and because of my
difficulty with the settings panel, there might be, the browser opens
with a navigation panel consisting of buttons. I would really like to
get rid of this panel and have the page load normally as in other browsers.

If anyone else tries out this browser and can figure out just how to
change settings more easily and how to get rid of the start panel that
appears at the top of every page, I would appreciate the information and
this for me would make the browser a reasonable alternative to the other
standard fare.

Is Control+d a keystroke specific to this browser?  IE, Firefox, Edge and Chrome all use alt+d for this function.

Re: Navigation keys not working #addonrelease

Also, this setting isn't saved.  If you turn off single letter navigation keys, when you unload and run NVDA again, the setting reverts to single letter navigation keys on.  But it's worth playing with the setting to see if it does change.  Then NVDA must be unloaded and run again to see if single navigation is still off.  Also, before you unload NVDA and run it again, close the browser and open it after you run NVDA again.  If you don't do so, browse mode may not function in the browser and you will get meaningless results of the test.

hi.
did you press nvda+shift+space key by accident when you use your
firefox, chrome or other browsers?
when you are in such browsers, press these combination of keys and
nvda should says single letter navigation keys on if its turned off by
accident.
hope that help and God bless you!

I found when I had the issue I had to reboot the machine for it to be correct.
Indeed even now, occasionally the nvda menu and the context menus can fail for no apparent reason but this is not due to a deregistering merely a corrupt registry temporarily caused by a program you ran crashing. a restart of the computer will fix it I find. Just one of the joys of windows!

Hi

the problem i had was this one which gave a brief outline and what i had to do to fix it.

the previous email with a link to the ticket had more comments in the last 9 days but my solution was from may 19.

I only just seen the other comments with some solutions but may not be yours?????

Below will be from what come off my web site from the trouble shooting section.

Troubleshooting - NVDA says “unknown” or “pane” in all of your browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird email client and other places
If for some reason you have problems with NVDA saying “unknown” or “pane” check for the following symptoms:

In all of your browsers, or the Mozilla Thunderbird email client, no matter what you do, you still hear “unknown” or “pane”.

In the browser, email client and other menus you notice you cannot get into your menus, or you are unable to use the quick navigation keys

When you have been told the page is loaded and notice strange behaviour

Mozilla Thunderbird saying unknown while you try to navigate it

Your applications key does not work with it being spoken out and other strange behaviour in Windows

The running applications icons are not being spoken out
It might be a good idea to do the following:
Please note: If you are hearing “unknown” or “pane” (as discussed above) NVDA might seem like it is still working properly but it may not be completely in Windows and other programmes.
You could try the following solution which will allow you to re-register your dll files in case they are causing the problem.
Press the Windows key then type the following into the search box. Type in “command prompt”. Once you have located command prompt, in the search results, press the Applications key to bring up the context menu. Arrow down to select “run as administrator” and press the Enter key. This will take you to a command prompt window. This will not be spoken out. You may need sighted assistance for this.
Type in the following command
for %x in (c:\windows\system32\*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %x
This should re-register all components in the system32 folder.
When it is finished, you can close the command prompt window with the Alt + F4 key. You should notice now where NVDA was saying “unknown” as in some examples given, NVDA should now read the icons in the running applications area of Windows, speak the content of the webpage and menus, and also in Mozilla Thunderbird and other places in Windows including the Windows applications context menu.

Re: Navigation keys not working #addonrelease

I think from reading all the mail on this one its obvious that some corruption of or non registration of some .DLL files has occurred. Sadly on some of these the only effect of their failure is that many accessibility features are crippled.
I expect somebody will be along soon with the ticket for this, and the many possible solutions. I have also seen it on older versions of Windows, so I'm sure its a common issue on many computers, but only we notice it, relying on the access systems that are broken by it.

Last time I saw it I did it with an uninstall of Office 2010, so its been an issue for some time in Office uninstallers.

Hi I don't have Windows 10 here, but if you only have this old version of Outlook and wish to continue using it, unless somebody else here can say it still works for them, you may only have two choices.
1 go back to the previous version of Windows 10
2 find another email program that works. I know that officially Microsoft do not support Office software prior to 2007 for Windows 10, so 2003, although, in my view a [perfectly usable set of programs, might not have been checked with the new code in the latest windows 10 update.
Anyone out there using Outlook 2003 on the latest incarnation of Windows 10.

Most people I know are using the newer versions of Outlook the ones with the ribbons.

Otherwise Sakina could try a search for Outlook crashing in windows 10 and see if its happening to anyone else. but its early days yet and from past experience it could take ages to find somebody with the same software combination.

Now the only problem I am encountering is that when I open my outlook to

encountered a problem and will notify me if the solution is found. Press alt

I then have to keep restarting my outlook again and again as it lets me read
few more and cuts off.

I am still using Microsoft office 2003

All else is working fine.

Please I do not know what Gene and Rosmary are talking about installing and

If that is my problem, can someone help me with step by step instructions
please.

I hope the above does make sense in explaining myself.

Thanking you all again.

Well, this as I recall is a brainchild of the original programmers who made Opera. I also remember reading that for those with poor vision it can easily zoom change sizes of items and colour contrast and has keyboard shortcuts. What I'm not so sure about its whether it actually has an API that screenreaders can hook into. I guess one would need to download it and try.

This browser isn't specifically designed for the blind, but many accessibillity features have been implemented that make it much more accessible.

Hi NVDA Users,

Please check this browser specially made for visually impaired persons.

Up to what extend it is accessible for VI?

Is it fully compatible with NVDA?

Under Tools menue Captcha option is there.

Can we use it to solve captcha problems?

Kindly throw some light on it.

Dear all,

I use Outlook2010 and with Jaws 18 – I can see with my Braille display in the inbox for example the number 10 for example that tells me that I have 10 new unread messages in that inbox.

With NVDA, I don't have it.

Is there any NVDA addon that I can install and may get this important feature, for me?

A lot of thanks for your answers and help.
