They both are iaccessible2 based implementations and depend on NVDAs iaccessible2 module just as the Mozilla components do.  An Extension to enhance things for NVDA users would be nice of course.

As to LibreOffices "off-line" a.k.a. "built-in" help, it must be downloaded separately to the program installer and then installed.  Absent the "off-line" help installation, the help dialogs will open in a Web browser, also the content of the "off-line" help becomes the content of the "Extended tips" that will sound with NVDA and other assistive technology tools.

Once installed, for exposure to Assistive Technology tools, users need to enable "extended tips" from the Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> General configuration tab. It is a checkbox.

NVDA has a voice settings option called "capital pitch change

The idea being that as you are typing or reading letter by letter,
capital

There
are several other options for distinguishing capitals, being to beep
or
to
read "cap", all of which can be set independently of each other.

The issue is that when using either OneCore or SAPI voices, the
capital
pitch change option is ignored UNLESS say cap is also checked - and
then
it
does both.

Using eSpeak, the options all work as they should (capitals are
indicated
by pitch change even without say cap checked). I'm not sure about
other
synthesizers.

The issue I filed is: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/7514

If change in pitch isn't audible unless some other indication is
on,
that
is a bug and evidently is now being looked into.

I agree that it's when I'm proof reading that I find the beep for
capitals
helpful. I have a configuration profile for editing documents
before
I
submit them anywhere, in which I have the punctuation level set to
all,
and
slow the speed down a little, and it would be helpful to have the
beep
for
a capital sounding as I move through the document line by line,
rather
than
having to navigate to the specific place where there should be a
capital
letter so I can hear the beep as I move by character.

I don't believe the change in pitch for capitals is audible at all
unless
the Say Cap for Capitals seting is on. Even with it set to 100, I
don't
hear any change in pitch with Microsoft Zira voice without that
audible
Cap
announcement and, for me, that's more of a distraction than it's
worth
when
I'm editing.

hi.
openoffice is more simple, has less features, but libreoffice supports
for example: many formats like many apple formats, microsoft visio and
publisher which openoffice does not.
both programs have there advantages.
i am not completely sure about my decision.
the best feature of openoffice which i like: are ability to select
which component that we want, less size and the most important one is
its help.
i realy wished that libreoffice had the help of openoffice internally
which explanes all the options and menus of the program!

Do you have an groups.io account? If so, I can look and see how to subscribe to subgroups. As I recall, when you are on the page for a group, there is a button that says subgroups. following it shows the subgroups you can join for that group. If you have an account, you may be taken to the messages page when you go to the group page. Somewhere near the top of the page, as I recall, is a link to go to the main page of the group. It may just say the name of the group as a link. I can check if my recollection isn't correct.

If your specific intent is to join a subgroup of this list, we may be able to send you the e-mail subscribe address.

Screen layout has nothing to do with clickable. Screen layout in the
default setting, shows the screen layout if it can be done. for example, if

there are two or more links on one line, they will all be shown on one line.

If the setting is changed, then links will each be shown on separate lines,

one for each link.

To turn off clickable announcements, In object navigation, tabbing around
will have a check box about reporting clicable objects and it should be
changed. If its checked now, it should be unchecked or if unchecked, it
should be checked. Then tab to and activate the ok button.

Clickable won't be reported. But there are times when you need to know what

is clickable on web pages so this setting shouldn't be left off all the
time. Especially if you are on a page and don't see how to do something, it

should be turned on.

I think the point here is that both these projects are in fact based on the

same code base and whereas Open office seems to have no current active

development or fixes being worked on, the other does, so you are more likely

to get issues resolved as the nvda devs are not going to try to find work

developers can be contacted as many issues need to be fixed in the code of

hello.

yes, both openoffice and libreoffice work with all versions of nvda

which i tested since 2014 versions of nvda.

i used libreoffice, but i decided to migrate to openoffice.

libreoffice has many features in compare to openoffice, but openoffice

is very much simpler, easy to use and learn, even we can select which

feature we want to install!

but unfortunately its removed from libreoffice.

openoffice exe file at least 80 mb less than libreoffice.msi file,

because libreoffice is translated to more than 110 languages and it

has all languages and more than 40 dictionaries in its installer file,

but in openoffice you can select your desire language and for

additional languages, you should download and install languagePack

separately.

libreoffice is i think currently stable, but openoffice is more

stable, because there is no extreme changes in any version that they

release!

hope that help and God bless you all.

I didn't like going back and forth between the display and the qwerty keyboard and just wanted to get one that had a braille keyboard, which I have now done, focus 14. I had the brailliant out a few months ago and it was still working, didn't seam like the battery was failing or anything. All the pins work well.

Hi all,

I have a braille embosser that still works with windows Xp, and I'm trying to buy a used braille display in good conditions, 40 characters and LPT or USB port only, to work with my XP machine revising and editing braille music.

If anyone knows about someone trying to sell a braille display with this features I'll deeply appreciate your help.

A QUESTION

Christo Vorster

Hi Group

Years ago I used Supernova and found it a very usable program. With Supernova, and JAWS it was possible to name buttons.

Is there a similar function, if not, would it be possible to incorporate such function in NVDA?

It would be fantastic if it might be possible.

Regards

This is fan! freaking! tastic!

I'm absolutely saving this. I do wonder however what the keystroke is to open the Edge Settings/preferences screen.

Nonetheless, I'm very greatful for you taking the time to put this together and send to the list. It will prove to be incredibly helpful!

Re: NVDA and Libreoffice

Walmir Schultz

So, this is one more issue in using NVDA and LibreOffice.. together.

I've described many of them here, but don't expect them to be solved because apparently there is no communication between the developers of both software.

Em 22/08/2017 22:19, Quentin Christensen escreveu:

Using NVDA 2017.3 rc1 and LibreOffice Writer 5.3.4.2 I did the following:

- Opened Word 2016 (I didn't have an old Word 2003 document handy) and typed a few words, saved as Word 97 - 2003 format .doc.
- Opened LibreOffice Writer.
- Opened the document I'd saved.
- Read through document, added some text.
- Saved document, and when prompted, saved in Office 2003 format.

I did notice at that point, the NVDA seemed to lose focus.  Pressing alt twice to go into the menu and back, or alt+tab to something else and back fixed the issue though.

I tried again and had no problems, although I got the lose focus thing at one point moving through the text.  I didn't find a concrete way to reproduce that.  It's annoying, but it didn't bring the system down or anything.  The focus itself was still in the document, so I could still move around and edit, it was just that NVDA wasn't reading properly so I expect it wouldn't be evident with NVDA not running.  Nothing untoward in the NVDA log though.  I have noticed occasional issues with LibreOffice so not sure if this is related to using a Word 2003 doc, or just a general LIbreOffice thing.

Just installed LibreOffice and attempted to open and modify a MS Office 2003 document.  If I change the document and select to save it as the original .doc file type it crashes LibreOffice to the point of needing a hard reboot to clear it.  Is this a known issue with trying to use LibreOffice with Microsoft Office documents?
Thanks

Re: voice pitch not changing when capitalizing a letter

Oh OK, I must admit I hadn't looked too much into what other versions of eSpeak where available to download, I apologise!  Interesting, maybe it is something which either doesn't affect XP, or only affects certain SAPI voices.

Re: Open Office?

also openoffice is become updated but unfortunately one version in the year!
openoffice 4.2.0 is in nightly and openoffice 4.1.4 rc2 is released in
recent days.
