When you say sharing, do you mean a folder that whoever you allow to share it can see it but for others a different folder is shared.
Dropbox did a good tutorial on this. As I recall you basically need to send an email with some special code in it. Of course the other person has to have a dropbox account as well.
I have a couple set up and they work very well.

People can answer questions about responsiveness but understandability is to

Re: stopping the word clickable.

The help section you tab to when on the attributes settings says something about changing things in a different part of settings, not in that dialog.  Every item in the quick settings tree view has a a help field you can tab to from the tree view.  You can move around it and read it as in any edit field.  I think if you tab to it, it will read automatically,  If it doesn't, you can read it as you would any edit field, using read to end, by line, etc.

Re your user, if what they mostly need is a word processor rather
than a full office suite, Jarte is a popular stand-alone word processor.

Another option is Google Docs and Google Sheets etc.

Yes there are potential bugs with the different office suites, and it
depends on exactly what you need to do as to which will best suit
your needs. For instance, yes the mouse bug I mentioned in
LibreOffice causes a fairly bad crash, but if you are a user who
doesn't use the mouse, then you won't encounter it.

- Opened LibreOffice Writer.
- Opened the document I'd saved.
- Read through document, added some text.
- Saved document, and when prompted, saved in Office 2003

I did notice at that point, the NVDA seemed to lose focus.
Pressing alt twice to go into the menu and back, or
alt+tab to something else and back fixed the issue though.

I tried again and had no problems, although I got the lose
focus thing at one point moving through the text. I
didn't find a concrete way to reproduce that. It's
annoying, but it didn't bring the system down or
anything. The focus itself was still in the document, so
I could still move around and edit, it was just that NVDA
wasn't reading properly so I expect it wouldn't be evident
with NVDA not running. Nothing untoward in the NVDA log
though. I have noticed occasional issues with LibreOffice
so not sure if this is related to using a Word 2003 doc,
or just a general LIbreOffice thing.

I think that somebody needs to actually find an influential person in the project and tell them. We used to have one as I recall. Maybe one of the devs still knows. Might be worth asking on that list once the thing stabilises when Jamie is not in the lead role and everyone knows who is doing what again.

It needs somebody who knows the code needed to make screenreaders work. One of the biggest problems, in my opinion is that software makers have still not had to have mandatory accessibility knowledge to work. Sadly since Microsoft keep moving the goalposts themselves with so called universal apps, its hard to see any other entity actually taking it seriously.

myself.

Re your user, if what they mostly need is a word processor rather than
a full office suite, Jarte is a popular stand-alone word processor.

Another option is Google Docs and Google Sheets etc.

Yes there are potential bugs with the different office suites, and it
depends on exactly what you need to do as to which will best suit your
needs. For instance, yes the mouse bug I mentioned in LibreOffice
causes a fairly bad crash, but if you are a user who doesn't use the
mouse, then you won't encounter it.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

When you say sharing, do you mean a folder that whoever you allow to share it can see it but for others a different folder is shared.
Dropbox did a good tutorial on this. As I recall you basically need to send an email with some special code in it. Of course the other person has to have a dropbox account as well.
I have a couple set up and they work very well.

People can answer questions about responsiveness but understandability is to a certain extent subjective. Do you want a voice you pay for or does it have to be free? Your answer considerably changes what is available to you.

jarte supports docx format.

You do need the fileconverters for office as well as the microsoft office filter pack.

And the compatibility pack updates.

At minimal.

There are older converters that you need for older office files to for extras I have those somewhere.

Now and this is quite important, if you ever need to use a real ms office in the future, you must remove all office filters and converters before installing it because if you don't when office or windows updates it will basically scrub associations needing a repair every time you update.

I assume the compatibility file converters clash with the newer office stuff.

If you get stuck with this cycle you need to remove all converters then do a quick repair of office.

With this done things will work again as expected, there isn't this anywhere I have seen but still.

Re: whats the best sapi5 voice for english?

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Ah, so the question is then, what is it that causes issue with sappi 5 Espeak.

At the moment if its XP as well, then maybe you might find some vendors still shipping them, but increasingly they seem to be very slow on xp to me anyway, unless you use XP on some very fast hardware.

All the known ones are on the nvda web site. I don't think any but the basic microsoft Anna Sam and maybe a coupl of others are free.
I tend to use Daniel and Serena and they are paid for ones. Also I did notice Emily being available free, but I'm not sure how legal that is, but its a 16 bit old style voice by the sound of it and sometimes sounds very rough.

Anyone else?

Using NVDA 2017.3 rc1 and LibreOffice Writer 5.3.4.2 I did the following:

- Opened Word 2016 (I didn't have an old Word 2003 document handy) and typed a few words, saved as Word 97 - 2003 format .doc.
- Opened LibreOffice Writer.
- Opened the document I'd saved.
- Read through document, added some text.
- Saved document, and when prompted, saved in Office 2003 format.

I did notice at that point, the NVDA seemed to lose focus. Pressing alt twice to go into the menu and back, or alt+tab to something else and back fixed the issue though.

I tried again and had no problems, although I got the lose focus thing at one point moving through the text. I didn't find a concrete way to reproduce that. It's annoying, but it didn't bring the system down or anything. The focus itself was still in the document, so I could still move around and edit, it was just that NVDA wasn't reading properly so I expect it wouldn't be evident with NVDA not running. Nothing untoward in the NVDA log though. I have noticed occasional issues with LibreOffice so not sure if this is related to using a Word 2003 doc, or just a general LIbreOffice thing.

Just installed LibreOffice and attempted to open and modify a MS
Office 2003 document. If I change the document and select to save
it as the original .doc file type it crashes LibreOffice to the
point of needing a hard reboot to clear it. Is this a known issue
with trying to use LibreOffice with Microsoft Office documents?
Thanks

Re: need to have any sound to know that i'm on top or bottom of text or list messages

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Can you explain exactly? I think you can have things like 4 of 26 items spoken.
Do you mean a rising tone blip as you move up a document and a lowering pitch as you go down.
Thunder Screenreader did this and it annoyed me intensely.
I think nvda offers settigs to speak some parts, but you have to realise than apart from the scroll bar sighted do not get much feedback either and this can be hidden if more than one window is open.

I have in Jaws sound that give me to know that I'm on the top or bottom of
any text or list messages.

May I have it on NVDA TOO?

It's part of the one-core voices that are now in NVDA.

For anyone interested, I have spent the last year or so creating audio articles for the free magazine, Talking Computers, these are about Libre office writer, I am no expert, but I have taken a simple approach to various subjects in the program and have found ways around some of the odd things which happen in Writer while using NVDA, anyone interested, go to,

Good luck.

I disagree. There's a help file you have to install and a certain box you have to check to make libre office accessible.

Hi,

I am very desappointed with LibreOffice.

Each update brings new compatibility issues with NVDA.

I even downgraded to LibreOffice 5.2 as the only way to minimize the annoyances.

I think to summarise the thread, LibreOffice tends to be updated more often, and more features are accessible.  Open Office is still being updated.  I just downloaded the latest version to have another look at myself.

Re your user, if what they mostly need is a word processor rather than a full office suite, Jarte is a popular stand-alone word processor.

Another option is Google Docs and Google Sheets etc.

Yes there are potential bugs with the different office suites, and it depends on exactly what you need to do as to which will best suit your needs.  For instance, yes the mouse bug I mentioned in LibreOffice causes a fairly bad crash, but if you are a user who doesn't use the mouse, then you won't encounter it.
