On my windows computer I don't have windows 10 there yet i will really appreciate it if you can help me and give me some suggestions regarding this matter! I look forward in hearing form you soon. Re: Browse Mode vs Focus Mode Sound

Rosemarie Chavarria

Hi, Brian,

The chime sound you hear is for browse mode. When you hit enter on an edit box, you'll hear a typing sound. That indicates that you're in focus mode. Hope this helps.

Subject: [nvda] Browse Mode vs Focus Mode Sound

Hello All,

I am trying to work a bit more with Browse Mode and Focus Mode, particularly in the context of an MS-Word document, which is giving me more than a bit of trouble as far as wrapping my head around what I should be doing.

One of the first things I'm trying to determine is what mode goes with what cueing sound. When you hit NVDA+space to switch modes, where and when you can switch them, one sound is a chime and the other is an electronic "cheep" of sorts. Which sound indicates which mode? I was expecting a verbal cue like "browse mode on" or "focus mode on" but that's not what I'm getting.

Also, I have a 52-page MS-Word document that's chock full of hyperlinks. When I'm in what I believe is browse mode and I hit NVDA+F7 I get the announcement regarding the Elements List, but no dialog box appears like it does if I'm trying the same thing in a webpage. I thought I would be able to get a set of links showing like I do if I'm in Chrome or Firefox looking at a webpage, but instead listing all the links within the document, but the dialog box never appears even though it's announced.

I'm using NVDA 2016.1 and Microsoft Word 2010 running on a Windows 10 Home, 64-bit machine. Any guidance or assistance would be much appreciated.

Re: Browse Mode vs Focus Mode Sound

Andre Fisher

Hi Brian.
When you first start Microsoft Word, NVDA defaults to focus mode so
that you can type text. If you press NVDA+Space, the tone you hear is
that of browse mode. This is where keys like H for heading and K for
link will work, but unless specified, other keys will not go through.
Pressing NVDA+Space will go back to focus mode, so you can type h, k,
etc. again.
If you want to hear 'browse mode' and 'focus mode' when you press the
keystroke, go to the Browse mode dialog and uncheck the Audio
indication of focus and browse mode option.
That second issue is strange. NVDA should behave properly in this
regard. You might want to ensure that you are not in protected mode,
however.

Most of the 5 issues that Felix reported on this list and that I filed via crbug.com have been fixed and the latest the changes may land is in Chrome Canary build on Monday.

Great! Indeed it looks like some things got ironed out.
Great that you've noticed some improvements within the week of them being reported on this list! :)
For example, the document seems to reliably get NVDA's attention after pressing enter in the address field.
Excellent! Actionable feedback drives improvements.
That's very good news. However, I'm not switching by a long shot.
View it as relative, not absolute switch. It's another tool in toolbox.

. And on inbox.google.com it will still announce what previously had focus

Sorry for sounding more disappointed than I wanted to sound, but this is Google's own website with Google's own browser, so I was expecting that all of the basics would be covered.
It's about progress and there is no such thing as perfection... It'd be good if you're able to provide detailed specifics with repro steps using Chrome Send Feedback.
Still, here comes the positive ending note: Signing in works beautifully now. That's something I had been struggling with for a long time so as far as that's concerned I'm delighted.
Great about progress, but let's push forward with ensuring improvements where needed happen for NVDA!

Re: best torrent client?

Jeffrey Shockley

Hi,

Best option for installing Utorrent is to turn off your Wi-Fi or whatever you use to access the Internet while you install Utorrent. This way, you don't have to worry about all the toolbars and such being installed. This option also works for other programs such as cCleaner.

For getting rid of ads in uTorrent, follow the instructions posted at the link below. Then, restart the program once done. :)

Hope this helps,

Hi,
You can check the status on your Google Drive up loads by pressing windows+B to get to your notification area, and then down arrow until you hear the status of your up loads. NVDA will tell you how much has up loaded to Google Drive, and how much is left. Take care.

buy all training materials, because I want to pay back what NVDA has
done for me. I am using NVDA more than JAWS after just two months,
and I have used JAWS for
15 years. I was using the mouse to navigate an app that JAWS would
do nothing with. This is really great! Take care all, and let’s
celebrate the first training material of many to come.

It sounds good to me 2 and when it does happen have you looked at a
cost for it? if any.

I have never done any thing like is mentioned, so don't know what to
expect.

Hi Heaven,

We haven't got the certification ready yet, so we'll post more
details about the exact format later. For now, what I can say is
that if you have a good understanding of most of what is in the
Basic Training for NVDA book you will be in good stead for the certification.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I’ve just ordered the book after liking the sample and to simply

just to contribute to the project.

Hi Simon
Perhaps you missed the response from Joseph Lee yesterday where he indicated
an INI file is used and it is stored in the program folder. On my system I
believe it to be the nvda.ini file in

C:\Program Files (x86)\NVDA\systemConfig

Cheers
Chris

Hi Brian,

Well basically i just want to know where this is saved. In a file or
registry.
We have a bunch of computers.
At the moment i am doing this by hand.
To get it unchecked so nvda doesn't speak at the login screen so people
don't get confused.
But ist ok if i have to do it by hand as well.

Are you looking for the location itself or how to make it save it. I'd
imagine as its a system setting on the current user, it is in that users
settings which are not always available for the user to fiddle with
depending on if they are an admin or not.
There is a button in the general settings and this will warn you if it
thinks there is a possible issue, such as uncertified add ons etc.
