I tested OpenOffice some time ago and it was still worse than LibreOffice.

I'm still using LibreOffice 5.2, even with its issues, because Microsoft Office is very expensive here n Brazil and, for what I have to do, LibreOffice suits me better.

Also, I am using LibreOffice for many years and know almost all the keyboard shortcuts, all of them very different in MS Office. As I needed to start using a screen reader a few years ago, only recently became aware of NVDA issues in conjunction with LibreOffice.

Re your user, if what they mostly need is a word processor rather than
a full office suite, Jarte is a popular stand-alone word processor.

Another option is Google Docs and Google Sheets etc.

Yes there are potential bugs with the different office suites, and it
depends on exactly what you need to do as to which will best suit your
needs. For instance, yes the mouse bug I mentioned in LibreOffice
causes a fairly bad crash, but if you are a user who doesn't use the
mouse, then you won't encounter it.

2003 format .doc.
- Opened LibreOffice Writer.
- Opened the document I'd saved.
- Read through document, added some text.
- Saved document, and when prompted, saved in Office 2003
format.

I did notice at that point, the NVDA seemed to lose focus.
Pressing alt twice to go into the menu and back, or
alt+tab to something else and back fixed the issue though.

I tried again and had no problems, although I got the lose
focus thing at one point moving through the text. I
didn't find a concrete way to reproduce that. It's
annoying, but it didn't bring the system down or
anything. The focus itself was still in the document, so
I could still move around and edit, it was just that NVDA
wasn't reading properly so I expect it wouldn't be evident
with NVDA not running. Nothing untoward in the NVDA log
though. I have noticed occasional issues with LibreOffice
so not sure if this is related to using a Word 2003 doc,
or just a general LIbreOffice thing.

Hi Chris,

Firstly, welcome to the list!

Windows 10 OCR is available for every version of Windows 10, and yes, it
runs completely offline.

I saw a post from Feb last year, about the November (2015) update saying
how Microsoft had added some new languages, which brought the total at
the
time, up to 25 languages. You might need at least a particular build of
Windows 10 if you are using non-English languages, but I can't find a
list.

Quentin.

A: you wont get really good ones for free and..
B: if you are not using a fast pc, the lag may well be far too great. In fact in the case of a very slow machine 1ghz with less than 2 gig memory, the actual voice glitches as the system cannot cope with the demand.

I

The worse of the two is Svox pico synthesizer. These are both NVDA Add

add ons but I haven't looked at enough to know that, it's just my
suspicion.
I believe you said you want a voice to use with other programs than

If so, neither voice I discussed will be suitable.

All I can say is that you can look at the voices and see if any might
meet
your needs, then try them.

How do i activate unclickable linkis?

John J. Boyer

On some websites I find links that don't respond to either the enter key or the NVDA key hat simulates a left mouse
click. I assume that these are mouse-over links, but there must be a way to actibate them. For example, in the New
American Bible I place my cursor on the link to Ruth, but I can't open the book. This happens in both
Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

Thanks,

In the case of Outlook 2003, it seems that sometimes just opening an email can crash everything as well. I wonder if you are right here, and its some specific info gathering in many versions of outlook that can cause trouble, the way UIA used to when it was first implemented by Microsoft, freezing up the computer and nvda. In XP if you recall, Microsoft brought out a glue on UIA update and that had so much trouble uia had to be completely disabled in nvda as using it crashed.

I have Outlook 2007 and it works fine with NVDA until I try to read the status bar using NVDA+end when Outlook stops working and I have to restart it. This has occurred in quite a few versions of NVDA up to 17.2. I'm not saying it's an NVDA problem, it may be something to do with the interaction between the information exposed by Outlook and how NVDA obtains it whichh causes it. I doubt MS would do anything to solve it, so I just avoid using that keystroke.

Hi everyone,

I am running Outlook 2016 on Windows 10 with the latest update of NVDA.

Over the past month, I have found that outlook stops and runs out of time almost every time (four times a day) that I check my emails. I notice the problem particularly when I try to swap between folders. This generates the message that Outlook has stopped working and will close. Today, I downloaded the newest update of NVDA and yet the problem is still persisting.

I unloaded NVDA and brought up JAWS. With JAWS running I am able to swap between folders without any delay so I am convinced that NDA is causing the problem.

Before loading JAWS, I had a very full outlook .pst file and reduced that from 1.2g to 200mb. I have no addins so that can't be the cause.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there a known solution?

I would really value a response as I much prefer to use NVDA rather than JAWS!

All the best,

there is no setting for this feature to becomes available.
developers add appModule for supporting of skype for business in 2017.3
and yes, the messages and notification should be read automaticly.

feedback. I am running the latest NVDA snapshot on a Windows 10 Enterprise

new section of NVDA.

". NVDA now automatically reports notifications in Skype for Business
Desktop, such as when someone starts a conversation with you. (#7281) "

Please clarify what could be expected from this new feature? Is it supposed
to read out new IM's when in the IM window, name of the caller when a call
comes in? I do not find any of these to be the case, so need to know if
specific settings need to be enabled to get this to work.

Thanks in advance.

Re the voices someone asked about, although I think that person ended up being on Windows 7, it is possible, for those on Windows 10, to get additional OneCore voices than the initial ones you have available.  To do that you need to install additional languages in Windows, as well as the speech pack for any language you install.  In English for instance, there is not just English UK and English US, but also Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc, which each come with different voices you may like to try.

Regards

Quentin.

Re: Creating backups of dvd's?

I use iso recorder.
Only thing is if the disc has any kind of copy protection on it it will not create the iso image.
You could look at any dvd, which basically plays the disc through it and removes the copy protection.
I don’t know how much it is now, but it really works and I use the two together when needed with no trouble.
Good luck and let me know if need any more help.
