problem with MS Outlook 2016 (nvda does not read all headlines)
J.G
Hi,
here is a description: In my inbox folder in MS Outlook NVDA does not read headlines for all of messages, which are in Inbox folder. It works for CCA 150 messages but when I came to last messages, NVDA says nothing. If I press enter, the message would be opened even NVDA does not report, that focus is on message. How can I solve this problem? Hope, that I was clear. BTW, I use NVDA 2017.3, but this problem has occured some days ago, when I used also version 2017.2. Thanks. kind regards, Jožef

recently while working on 2 different PCS for 2 friends, I found that the closest thing that will perform in the ways you want is believe it or not malware bytes. In both the paid and free versions, I was able to create exceptions for programs which was what both of my clients needed, without much of a problem, using the interface is a matter of tabbing around the screen to the different parts of the program, and it is accessible with NVDA. I am seriously considering making the jump to the premium version of the program for both of my systems myself. It is increasingly becoming more and more difficult to find antivirus and security programs with decent accessibility support. Tony

Re: How to get focus on a specific element upon loading
Dejan Ristic
What about unchecking 'Automatic say all on page load[', option
which is found in the browse mode submenu contained in the
preferences menu? I have experienced such similarities when the
very option has been checked, for when a webpage loads, NVDA
starts reading it, moving focus down along the page. When I've
decided to uncheck it, I usually find my NVDA positioned at the
top of a webpage when it is loaded.
Hope this helps

Flexible web with Jaws and the Sweet spot feature in Mac Voiceover are the only Screenreaders I know that can provide this function by default. I think however there is a placemarker addon add on in NVDA which would provide one key access to this function?

I don't know if any screen-readers allow you to do this. But thats one example of why the find command is so useful and so underused. Is there a word in the logo that is distinctive? If so, do an NVDA search for it after the page loads. The search command is very useful in other ways. Say, for example, you go to a newspaper site and a section you want to read is named Editorials and its a link. Use the screen-reader find command to search for edito. You don't need to write the full word usually when doing a search. The first four or five letters of a word that isn't likely to be found elsewhere on the page is sufficient. This is a case where you wuld use five letters because four, edit, would cause the search to stop on words like editor if present.
In NVEDA, the screen-reader find command, used in browse mode, is NVDA key f. To repeat the search from where you are, the command is NVDA key f3.

Re: Unable to Install NVDA 17.3 on HP laptop
Quentin Christensen
When you go to install a program, Windows pops up a dialog advising that you are about to change the system and you need to accept that before you can install the program. Sometimes this dialog appears behind other windows. In that case, you may need to alt+tab to it if it doesn't seem to appear. That is usually the reason for this kind of problem. Regards Quentin.

Thank you for your response.
In my case, I have strange behavior where focus is not starting from the first element in the html, but somewhere in footer, and that is only for Mozilla browser. If I cannot enforce it on specific element, is there a way to make it start from the first html element? Maybe by adding some id parameters in html ?
Thanks,

Hi Anthony.
1: press windows key and r for the run dialogue 2: Type shell:appsfolder and hit enter 3: When the list of programs pops up use first letter navigation letter m until you hear Microsoft edge. 4: Hit the context menu key or shift f 10. 5: Arrow until you find create shortcut and hit enter. 6: You will be told that the shortcut can not be created here and it will ask you if you want to place it on the desktop instead. 7: Tab to the yes button and hit enter. And there you go. Note: you can name the newly created icon anything you want. I hope this helps. Have a nice day

On sounds, did I nott see an add on that allowed other sounds on the ad on site. I believe eventually the idea is to make this type of option part of nvda. At the moment its awkward as on a standard install, the update overwrites th sound files in nvda. but there is noting stopping you form fiddling with them on the current install. they are in a folder called waves in the main nvda folder in program fiiles (x86) Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. the registry entries for OE are very large and complex, a lot of them hidden in identities with impenetrable key names made up of seemingly hex numbers and letters. One route I'm going to try to pursue is that there used to be a complete back up and restore for OE under XP written by a third party, and if one could get that to ework in 10 it might be the way to go, assuming it does not screw stuff up. I am planning to get ten up and running again at Christmas on a new machine, hence me investigating alternative ways to go. Having read the trials and tribulations of the mail app here, I'm loathe to change to this or Thunderbird as the shortcut keys are different and one cannot do news. Identities are vital to me to keep accounts in little boxes. I don't like the large tree of folders approach at all. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Failing that, you may be able to use a batch file to copy it back to it's proper position, and add the registry keys (if any) back so that it will behave properly. Having never tried such a thing, I don't know how successful it would be, but I do know you can add registry entries from batch files, I have done that much, but never tried changing attributes to prevent windows from breaking things.
