OCR?
Christopher-Mark Gilland <clgilland07@...>
Guys,
I've ran into a very very urgent matter which is
work related.
I can read up more on object nav, and more on the
OCR plugin, but at least, can you all help get me up and running with the basics
here? What I need is to know... I have a screen which has some controls exposed
which NVDA cannot seem to see. Not even with object nav, or screen
review.
Let me say that I normally prefer screen review
over object. I just find it more logical, seeing that I normally use JAWS, so
I'm more used to the jaws cursor kind of approach.
Anyway, I think we're gonna have to OCR this window
to get anywhere so I can see and click the controls. I think once I get to the
place to click that'll open the browser window in the screen I need access to,
then OCR won't be needed after that point, but I just need to get that one area
visible.
If any of you are wonderring what this window is,
it's the Synthogy Ivory VST plugin window within Reaper. I just need to be able
to get to the browser to select and load one of the libraries.
So, generally, I don't wanna veer off topic and
start talking Reaper, or Ivory, so let's keep this as much NVDA as we can. That
said, what are the basic steps required to do OCR on a screen once the OCR addon
has been installed to NVDA? And, can I use NVDA+numpad 7 to get to screen
review, or is it something where with OCR, I'll have! to use object, no
other way.
Chris.

I'm agnostic about the banning of Kaspersky by the Trump Administration, but the article you point to is 3 years old (almost). Maybe it got better. I never used it. But a Jaws user on FB was asking if

Blackboard was accessible. They said it was. So I took it upon myself to ask if it would work with NVDA. Cause not everybody uses Jaws.

Re: blackboard
Docuscan will also work for that, or you can talk to the professor. Most are willing to work with you in providing text version of the pdfs, Mine have ben more than wonderful over the years. Some won't be, but not much you can do about that besides make a complaint to your DRC.

In general, Openbook usually works fairly well for handling the "scanned" pdfs that professors often upload to Blackboard. I don't know of a more affordable approach, though :-( Marshall

I've heard of a lot of trouble with microsoft access and data bases over the years. In fact a student I know had to drop a class bcause of inaccessibility of access, and they were using jaws, and this was in 2012.. I hope someone else has better news.

Yes, I knew a friend on FB was asking if it’s accessable with Jaws. They say it is.

I'm really interested in this thread because I'm intending to go back to Swansea Uni, where I did my BSc in chemistry back in the 1990s, and study for MA in creative writing. I know they use Blackboard so have been browsing around to get an idea about how accessible it is.

I think it's because the new wav files are smaller and shorter. The starting

Hi Group,
I find it hard to believe that there isn't at least some merit to this. It appeared in countless mainstream media around the world and you would think that if there was some sort of media conspiracy of such proportions that it would leak out. It sounds like a lot of you are influenced by this idea that all news is now fake news that doesn't agree with a particular political point of view. Re: Open Offices stops responding
Cearbhall O'Meadhra
Hi Walmir,
This is something that a few of us are following and trying to assemble failure logs to show the development team what is causing these failures. O far the issues have all related to Outlook but yours in Libra and Open office look similar. Would you like to help?
You can help by writing out step by step what action you are doing that leads to the breakdown. As Quentin has advised recently, you need to set the NVDA log on to “Debug” mode first. The NVDA log is always present. You can find it as the first item under TOOLS in the NVDA MENU.
If you want to see how others have reported the isue, look at issue 7556 on GitHub.
All the best,

Hi, Both LibreOffice and OpenOffice have serious issues when used with NVDA. LibreOffice is better, but be prepared to find crashes, unexpected silences from NVDA and other annoyances. I use LibreOffice, but always with a ton of patience.
