It's not Donald Trump that is making these accusations.  It's the National Security people who have been around for years.  While usually skeptical of all of those types, I can't see what would be in it for them to fabricate a Russian hack conspiracy.  How would they gain from this?

Here's what I'd do. The servers were recently changed on the updates, so, for slightly older versions, updates either won't download, or the program says there are none.
Download the latest version from the first link in Adriano's recent email:
It shouldn't take long. When you have it, install it by pressing enter on the file. When NVDA tells you that a version already exists, tab to the yes button to override the previous installation. When you are prompted to, and after you restart NVDA, you will then have the latest version.
I just saw that Gene New Zealand gave you detailed instructions on how to set it up if you are a first time user.
Hope this helps, and things finally get sorted.
I actually don't remember Marcus, but let's talk about that off list, but tell him hi for me too.

is this the first time you have used this add on? If it is and it is installed use the nvda key + letter n to get into nvda preferences. Arrow to general settings then down to the weather plus add on.

When you get to the add on a sub menu will come off it and say nset and manage your settings press the enter key on it.

the next screen will give you a whole eahp of options. The very first place where it lands will let you put in a town or ciy etc. In my case i say put hawera then tabbed to a button that says Test
This testing the validity of city woeID entry and find the name of city assigned, or v then pressed the space bar. It will then come up with some results. You can then arrow down the results and when you find the one you want use the tab key so it lands on the ok button then press the space bar.

it will then take you back to where you typed in the name of the town or city tab once it will land you on a button that will give you details to make sure it is the correct town or city tab again and it will give you the option to add it to the list press the space bar on it.

You can also keep on tabbing and there will be other options to choose from just use the space bar to check or uncheck the boxes you want to hear. make sure you tab to the ok button then press the space bar for it to take affect.

You can also preset that place as your default when you press the nvda key + letter W

You can also add more places by repeating the steps to add more places.

If you say added 4 you can get to them quickly by pressing the nvda key + ctrl key + shift key + letter W then arrow down the list to the one you want to hear from with nvda key + W.

Lisa, in that case, if it will let you, I'd install the update again, even if it tells you it's running the latest version. The main version number is the same, 4.5, but it is definitely an update. Try that first.
If that doesn't do it, uninstall the add-on, then install the latest version. Of course you'll have to set your cities again after, but hopefully the first idea works before resorting to that.

Hi.

Well today the system started, and popped up the icon instead of desktop it just said nvda.

This has been round for ages and ages and the easiest way out of it is to enter the nvda menu then enter start menu then alt tab and then it seems fixed or exit and restart nvda.

It hardly happens, however I thought I would catch it when it happens and submit a log.

Its not terribly urgent but I think joseph or someone wanted to have a look at it.

Ok thanks - it definitely seems to be something that has changed in Outlook, so I was just curious whether it affected other AT as well.

It does seem to happen when I am using Narrator as well.  I tried it without any AT running, and it's fine, I can press control+2, control+1 all day* to jump between folders, click on folders, use control+y to my heart's content.  As soon as I load NVDA or Narrator and try, it crashes.

Ok, something to keep looking into anyway.

Steve, out of curiosity, does Jaws crash Outlook in the same way - ie there seems to be a big problem with changing folders currently in any way other than with control+shift+tab.

Hi Gerry,

Re Open Office, could you please give some more information such as steps to reproduce or error messages or what is happening.

Re NVDA, when you run the downloaded file, you have the option to continue running or install.  If you install it, then you should be able to start it either from the start menu or with CONTROL+ALT+N.  Once it is running, it will appear in your system tray.  The icon in 2017.3 is a purple square with a white stylised "N" inside.  By default it should start speaking as you perform actions on the computer - visually the screen won't look any different.  If you have turned speech off or have a problem with the synthesizer you are using, you might not get speech, but if that's the case, let me know and we can try and troubleshoot a bit closer.

I tried a few things like uninstalling the add on then also checking under the explore nvda configuration directory and made sure there was nothing there etc.


I then reinstalled it and went back to add my cities such as stratford, hawera and new plymouth.


I still get the same results. If it does come up with a list of places i then go to the one i want then go to add it and then i get the same message.


I do not think the version of windows would matter but is creators update wind 10 with nvda 2017.3


Some thing is broke as it will not go any further. I have used this add on before and adding cities removing them etc used to work but not now.

NVDA can also OCR images of text.  If using Windows 10 and NVDA 2017.3, navigate to the image and press NVDA+r, then when OCR complete, use your regular reading keys to read.

If using earlier versions of Windows or NVDA, you will need to the OCR plug-in (note, if using Windows 10 & NVDA 2017.3, please disable the plug-in), in that case, you still press NVDA+r to run OCR, but with the plug in you need to use the review cursor to read.

I'm really interested in this thread because I'm intending to go back to Swansea Uni, where I did my BSc in chemistry back in the 1990s, and study for MA in creative writing. I know they use Blackboard so have been browsing around to get an idea about how accessible it is.

From what I've read it should be fine though, as Erik says, it very much depends on the professors using it accessibly. This comes up in an AFB post about how blind students find Blackboard, http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pubnew.asp?DocID=aw160702

I know at Swansea, a UK uni, there is a disability office that handles transcriptions of any textbooks or handouts that aren't available electronically, and will step in if anything accessibility related is hindering your chances of successfully completing your studies. I'm optimistic that Blackboard will be sufficiently useable when I get there :)
