As the owner of the NVDA add-ons list, I'm considering enacting address ban if I hear reports of the moderated person jumping over to the add-ons list to vent frustrations.

As I stated in an email a few weeks ago when this person started posting on the list, he will continue posting nonsensical messages, off topic messages, and violate list rules until he is removed. He apparently doesn't pay much attentionn to messages in reply to his questions and will continue repeating things over and over until stopped. Moderation is the least of possible solutions to this situation.

This will take you to a command prompt window. This will not be spoken out. You may need sighted assistance for this.
Type in the following command
for %x in (c:\windows\system32\*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %x
This should re-register all components in the system32 folder.
When it is finished, you can close the command prompt window with the Alt + F4 key. You should notice now where NVDA was saying “unknown” as in some examples given, NVDA should now read the icons in the running applications area of Windows, speak the content of the webpage and menus, and also in Mozilla Thunderbird and other places in Windows including the Windows applications context menu.


if the above does not fix it then we can try the other suggested stuff from jamie.

have a look on my nvda audio tutorials page and go to the section on trouble shooting and look for the heading that says unknown or pane  for windows 10.


I can not remember either but there is a patch etc but can not remember if it is on that page as well. it might only be for windows 7 or 8 machines?

minutes, and find out all the information myself, but you know, that's

elsewhere, and that is because it's easier for some folks to receive
the answer in their inbox than it is to go digging around on a web site
that may or may not be screen reader friendly. I know that in this
case, the sites are, but that's not always the case.
So, how much are these add on voices anyway?

its a funny one as I've done it three times now in different places with the same result each time. However if you do not use the new restart checkbox all goes well and one can restart manually, which is why I postulateed(they can't touch you for it) that it might have a flaw in its restart logic, perhaps not allowing time for the old temp copy to exit nicely. I can remember when I wascapturing logs from the old version that I had to add a time out to allow for this to happen or it eithr fell over or part of the end of the log was missing. But in my log if you notice it just stops when the update tries to start the portable copy, no clean exit at all.

This delay in my restart has never failed.

My only guess is the Security Tab of Options and look under the "Block Dangerous and Deceptive Content" checkbox or uncheck that checkbox entirely. It has two sub-options, and I'm guessing the second might be your issue.

My only guess is the Security Tab of Options and look under the "Block Dangerous and Deceptive Content" checkbox or uncheck that checkbox entirely.  It has two sub-options, and I'm guessing the second might be your issue.
