Hi Jim,

Yes there is a legal add on from Code Factory that comes with both Eloquence and Vocalizer. Disclaimer: We do sell it. Please feel free to contact me privately if interested.

We also have SAPI 5 voices for both, again, both perfectly legal.

Thanks.

All the best

Steve

Hello,

Forgive me if I have misunderstood, but surely there cannot be a genuine NVDA add on for the voices which I wil not mention as they are a banned topic? Code factory Vocaliser may be legal, but not the other, I had to pay for my Vocaliser voices and they cost me about "£70 years ago, these are now available as a stand alone item and not tied to NVDA.
For those who just cannot afford extra voices, the Microsoft ones are quite good and are, of course, free with the Microsoft system.

As to the illegal subject, why anyone would want these outdated voices beats me.
Take care.

Best Regards, Jim.

As I stated in an email a few weeks ago when this person started posting
on the list, he will continue posting nonsensical messages, off topic
messages, and violate list rules until he is removed. He apparently
doesn't pay much attentionn to messages in reply to his questions and
will continue repeating things over and over until stopped. Moderation
is the least of possible solutions to this situation.

Good luck Nimer and Gene!

It is not useful to have a debate on list about Chikodinaka

If Mr. Chikodinaka Nickarandidum Oguledo is too outrageous, I shall
moderate him. Moderation means that I shall see every post from him
and have to approve each post before it reaches the list. If I do
that, I shall simply not approve repetitive questions nor questions
that in any way, promote sites where illegal activity occurs. .

I'm explaining all this because Mr. Chikodinaka Nickarandidum
Oguledo sent a post yesterday in which he seemed to indicate that he
didn't know what being moderated means and because there may be
other list members who don't know.

I am not the list owner and if he wishes to deal with this matter
differently, that is what he will do as list owner. I've stated
what I will do unless the owner wishes something different to be

Also, on further consideration, I've changed my mind about how long
moderation will last. It will last at least two months and whether
it is lifted will depend on the kinds of posts Mr. Chikodinaka
Nickarandidum Oguledo sends for approval.

Hi,

You don't need to go to any web site to download Vocalizer, it is in the interface.

I have to say, the web page where the nvda plugin is up for download is terrible. According to the site (and I quote).

Once the Add-on is installed along with NVDA, you can select either Code Factory Eloquence or Code Factory Vocalizer in the NVDA Synthesizer dialog and then select the preferred language in the NVDA Voice dialog.

Yeah, only this doesn't work for vocalizer voices. It works just fine for eloquence voice (which btw, I can't stand), but apparently, for vocalizer voices, you need to go to another page (not linked to anywhere on the NVDA plugins page), and download the voices you want to use. This is pretty poor page design, especially since there is no mention anywhere on the page that voices need to be downloaded.

But, just for reference, downloading the voices I wanted didn't change my circle of errors, I'm still getting the thanks for using, and telling me that pressing ok will start the install process, (which btw doesn't). Installing the samantha voice separately also doesn't solve my problem, I can select vocolizer in the code factory menu, but when going to synthesizer and selecting vocalizer is how I get into that nice endless error circle, so there is definitely still work that needs done on these voices. I'd be demanding my money back with no doubt if I'd had this experience after paying for these things. The seven day trial is nice, but it isn't of any use to me, because nothing here is working, so I'm just going to write it all off as a bad idea and go back to being content with my espeak ivan 3 voice.

Re: code factory vocalizer voices

Steve Nutt

Hi,

I'm unsure, but it sounds like your firewall is blocking it from downloading voices. You should get a list of voices that you can choose from, then download the voice you want.

All the best

Anyone have any idea how to get these to work?

I've installed the nvda plugin, but when I go to synthesizer, and select code factory, it brings up a dialog that says:

You need to install vocalizer voices to use code factory tts.

Pressing ok will start voice installation software.

That's all well and good, but when I press enter, I get a dialog that says:

Synthesizer error could not load the vocalizer synthesizer

Ok, so I press enter on ok again, and then

all that does is bring me back to the dialog that says:

We hope you are enjoying the evaluation of vocalizer for windows remember to purchase a license before the trial expires to continue using great voices.

Then there's a continue button.

Ok, so let's press that.

Great, now we're back in the list of voices where I select samantha, and ....

poof, absolutely nothing happens. If I do the selecting again, it starts all over, and I'm stuck in an endless loop.

I'm not feeling the love here. Anybody know how to break out of this vicious nonproductive loop (other than uninstall the plugin that is).

Of course, selecting espeak ng solves the problem too, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the plugin in the first place.

Hi Quentin,

It does happen with JAWS, but far less frequently.  I agree with you, it’s probably an Outlook problem, but it manifests itself in NVDA much worse than in JAWS.

Jim,

This problem started with a recent update to Office, it's not something we've changed (and using a current build of Office 2016, it manifests even using older versions of NVDA.

It happens for me using Narrator as well, so I believe it is definitely something in Outlook.  I have seen at least one user confirm it doesn't happen using Jaws, and I have found it doesn't happen if no screen reader is running.  Not sure about Zoomtext etc.

The issue we are tracking on our system is: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/7556

It has been reported to Microsoft, but I don't have a direct link to a bug for them.

Quentin.

Control+y, or using control+1, control+2 etc, or even clicking on folders with the mouse all seem to produce this crash.  From what we've found, it's something Microsoft have changed in Outlook recently.

Hi,

It happens on JAWS too, but it’s not quite as bad as on NVDA.  I couldn’t use NVDA with Outlook 2016, too many crashes.

Also, shift tab assumes that the folder pane is switched on, I always switch it off, less clutter on the screen and better performance.

Actually I note that these voices will work in 7 and I'd imagine 10 as well. OK so they are old and a bit naff sometimes, but one thing I have noticed is that some of them have a weird effect where you type a character and if its set to speak characters, then the one you type is not spoken till you add a space, then the character is spoken but a trifle broken up.
Anyone else noticed this?
Only out of interest as apart from via voice, Mary in space etc, there are few voices here that are easy to listen to. Brian

I have not used this method of late to use Dolphin derived voices because, to be honest most of the ones available that way are digital type voices like digital Dave and not as good as Espeak in my opinion. It certainly does not let you use any third party voices they use without buying them!

The "8.4 points" is most likely an anti-spam filter result (quite
possibly from SpamAssassin).

Basically this combination means that the mail server refused to deliver

Well they are extremely easy to install, so you can listen to them quicker that way I'd suggest. For me they are OK for reading text but not much good to navigate menus etc, as they tend to lag a little too much and fast speeds makes them sound chopped up in my ears. They are not meant for the menu sort of use though.
Of course being Microsoft, expect lots of forced abbreviation extension and odd ways of saying things, For example I had to put my first name in with a by to make it say it correctly.

Hello list. My name is Sky, and I am new to the list. I am a 26-years old man from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have used NVDA off and on since 2007, and I absolutely love this screen reader. I work as an adaptive technology specialist with an organisation in Victoria called Pacific training Centre for the blind. I am also a blind musician/recording engineer as well.  Anyways, I am looking forward to participating in the NVDA user community, and I want to say a big thanks to Mike and Jamie for helping make accessibility free for all.  You guys rock!

Thanks, Sky.

Hello,
You can also take a look at Word Press for Bad Eyes. It is a paid book but it was written by a blind individual. With the book there is also forums you can ask questions on. I don’t have the website at the moment but it should be easy to find if you search on Google for it.

Interesting, I'm glad it's working again for you, but do let me know if it happens again!

Quentin,

It lasted for half a day! I think I must have triggered some sort of temporary system change.

I went into “Run as administrator” and opened Outlook 2016. I then tried to reset the views of the Inbox. We were trying to see if the control-y problem could be eliminated by changing settings. We found that it was not possible to change the behaviour of control-y except for about fifteen minutes but then it returned full blast after that.

When I returned to the Inbox I found this “no associated drafts” flag before every message.

When I then restarted the computer and re-opened Outlook the problem had gone away and has not returned since.

All the best,

How long has this been happening? Last I heard of this bug, it was fixed in NVDA 2016.3. Have you done anything lately (installed or uninstalled software, updated to a new build of windows etc).
