You cannot have spaces in web addresses though, can you? I was thinking this too but decided it has to be something like underscore or something else. brian

On the one I have there is a tray icon which when can set things like on or off or allow external mouse and sensitivity and how to emulate buttons either by tapping the pad or using physical buttons.

Of course the dumb method is a piece of card over the damned thing! it may be that if this icon is not there, then there may be a control panel item instead. Re: Plugins
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
Unfortunately Clipspeak has major problems at the moment for me. It slows things and causes word to complain about memory spuriously. so I may have to resort to the dumb add on to get things done. It most certainly has potential though but needs to have better ways to find out what it needs to know that are less time consuming and invasive to software.

Re: miranda-ng
Quentin Christensen
When you say you are using a development version, do you mean of Miranda? If so, it could be that they've changed something. I must admit I haven't used it in awhile. From here, I would: - Check the latest stable build of Miranda to make sure its working in that (at least that will confirm that it definitely is something in Miranda rather than anywhere else). - Notify the Miranda developers. - If it's something that might need attention from NVDA's side, file an issue on our GitHub page: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues including as much detail as possible. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA features
Quentin Christensen
HI, Following on from what others have said, while NVDA itself only does speech and / or braille output, it does work with the Windows magnifier which is built into Windows 7. Press WINDOWS+PLUS to start or increase magnification, WINDOWS+MINUS to decrease magnification, CONTROL+ALT+i to toggle invert colours and WINDOWS+ESCAPE to exit magnifier. NVDA can be run in Aero or classic modes of Windows, although if you are using Windows Magnifier, you will need to be in Aero to get full screen. Another magnification option is Glass Brick: http://www.glassbrick.org/ it is built over the Windows magnifier but offers a lot more features and customisation. For the mouse pointer, I developed some extra large ones a couple of years ago you might find useful: http://22point.com.au/cursors.html One more thing as a low vision user you might find useful with NVDA, is the "Focus Highlight" addon. It draws a box around whatever control or item has focus. See: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/focusHighlight.en.html Kind regards Quentin.

Hi,
Thank you for pointing out the subgroup. I am still learning how groups.io works. I see the Subgroups link on this group’s homepage, as well as the developer group.
Best regards, Mike

Hi, At some point we should move this discussion to a more appropriate location, but… A screen reader is just any other program: filled with variables, loops, conditionals, classes and objects, libraries, API calls and what not. But when it comes to screen readers, some knowledge of accessibility API’s helps, as well as willingness to listen to customers and be part of the community. If you want, I recommend that you join the devlearning subgroup where I teach people how to write Python code, as well as give talks on NVDA internals for the next few months. Be warned though: the traffic you see in that subgroup isn’t for the faint of heart: in other words, one must show dedication and commitment, and in some cases, it becomes quite technical. Cheers, Joseph

Hi,
When I read about how NVDA was born by a blind developer starting and writing it back in 2006, where do you think he would have even gotten the training to write a screen reader? I know that one would not get this from college alone. College may teach the fundamentals of Computer Science with an introduction to some specialized topics like security and cryptography, image processing, networking, and multimedia, but writing a screen reader has to be a highly complex undertaking. I am not looking to write one, but am intrigued by NVDA’s history.
Thanks, Mike

I just tried copying the link into Firefox and then deleted both the %20 and replaced them with a space. Result: 404 Page not found.

Thunderbird is blocking this. Now I'm getting a message that the link in the message is a scam and impersonating a site I want to visit so it has deactivated it. At least now I know what's stopping it but don't know how to get around it.
