Re: dictation on the fly windows key plus h

David Moore

Hi Josh!

Thanks!

I love this dictation on the fly as well. I just turn off the speech of NVDA, by pressing:

NVDA+S, I dictate, and I just press the NVDA+S again to turn the speech back on!

This is very exciting, and I do love the feature in Narrator to describe an image. I have wanted that feature in NVDA as well.

I love 1709, and it is so much snappier in Edge using NVDA!

Have a great one!

Wow!  Sounds good.

Maybe this could be handled by shutting NVDA up if the windows+h key is pressed.  Not sure how it would be turned back on once the dictation is done though.

Definitely sounds interesting though.

I installed dictation bridge, no change. It would be far better if NVDA would wait until the dictation was finnished, and then speak what was just dictated. Seems like dictation bridge does not support this new form of windows dictation. Could someone on the list please maybe fix this issue with an addon? thanks.

I tested out this new form of dictation, and even without training, it works very very good. so you can just dictate on the fly. also the narrator feature of describing any image or graphic works good, wish this also were implemented into NVDA.

Re: windows 10 fall creaters update coming out today

Hi all!

I got the Fall Creators 1709 of win10 yesterday in my updates.

It downloaded and installed without a hitch. It took 90 minutes to download, but it took two hours to install. It got stuck at 70 percent for an hour, but I just waited patiently, and it finished.

Wow, I am using NVDA version

Version: master-14532,58e1946e

And it is so snappy in Edge, that I can’t believe it. NVDA is working better in this 1709, than it ever has. I just want everyone to know that NVDA is so snappy as well in file explorer. It is much snappier when I arrow through ffiles and folders in different areas of file explorer. The Mail app is working great with NVDA.

Narrator, is very snappy with MS Mark. I used Narrator in Edge, and it works well.

When you get 1709, you will love how well NVDA works with it.

Re: where does NVDA support OS system API MSAA

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

You really need to raise this as an issue in github so the devs will see it, and also try to get a good argument for writing the app module, or alternatively, put it on the add ons list and suggest an add on is created for it if the resources are in nvda to achieve it.

I ask this question because I'm wondering what it would take for NVDA to work with the zoom meeting platform, and receive notifications from it, as other screen readers do.

The information I was able to get from zoom is the following, and will hopefully be of help for anyone who could take advantage of this info...

"Zoom client in Windows uses OS system API MSAA to support screen reader. The SPEC is described here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd317990(v=vs.85).aspx
In particular details, Zoom client calls the MSAA API https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd373603(v=vs.85).aspx to notify system to inform the screen reader to speak."
Thanks!

Re: Question about Google Chrome and annoying alerts

David Griffith

I believe that this is the correct diagnoses.

I was getting a regular alert message every time I started Firefox which was impossible to find and dismiss using either  NVDA or Jaws butg  in my case turning web developer mode turned it off and I no longer get the annoying messages.

I don't know if there is any connection.  One accessibility problem deals with edit fields.  This question deals with a message being displayed somewhere in the Chrome window and how to see and dismiss it.  I don't know if either are possible but this is just a display of text somewhere and isn't an edit field.

Is this related to that bug that still means that some edit fields don't
read in Chrome? Or is that a different bug? And by not reading I mean
that I can type text but cannot review the text with cursor keys to
select or edit it on some form fields in Chrome, even though the same
fields work in Firefox.

Yeah, that is a good point. I already had to run the troubleshooter once because the initial update corrupted the Windows database. I think that the poor wifi signal here might have been partly responsible for that though.

although the time has passed to mensione it in our final checkups 1
thing you need to do after installing a major update is do a manual
check for update although windows should do this automatically but you
never know you may miss a driver update.

Re: Question about Google Chrome and annoying alerts

It may be mostly for the reason you say, but when I go to some web sites using Chrome, I get a message that says alert and often nothing more.  This particularly happens on Youttube where the messages seem to alert me that an add is playing that can be skipped, but because they are not read often, only the word "alert" is spoken, I'm inferring what the message may say from the very few times I've heard it read.

The reason that you are getting the chrome Developer Alert Tools in either in Chrome or Firefox is that you have the Developer Mode turned on.

Go in firefox to Tools then cursor down to Web Developer and then make sure that everything is unchecked in the sub menu which appears after that.

You might have to repeat the uncheck for every item you have in the web developer sub menu.

If you are using Chrome then this presumably  will also be in the Chrome menus somewhere.

However once these web developer options are all unchecked the inaccessible and annoying web development alerts should go away.
