Hello Jennifer, I also use Windows 10 Creators Update and I also don't have problems with the volume. That's OK for me.

When I contacted the devs of Sumatra pdf, they clearly stated that
they don't know anything about accessibility, and wouldn't be willing
to put any time and effort into it. Being an open source programme,
they said, if anyone wants to take up the task, let them do so. But
not they themselvles.

The situation is pretty much the same as with Calibre Viewer, or
Calibre in general.

When you open a file with Sumatra, the text is only shown as an
image, and is not extracted to let a screen rader access it.

I solve the problem now with Windows10 OCR, but that only shows one
screen at a time, of course.

It's a pity that devs are so narrow-minded, and unwilling to help
(the devs of Telegram are another shining example...).

I doubt it that NVDA can do anything about this issue with Sumatra
and Calibre though.

Using the WP admin dashboard, on wordpress.com, is accessible. I think this guy is trying to use the new interface.
Why not go with Dreamwidth studios? They have many tips on accessibility and have an active accessibility community.

For other options, you would need to download the speech packages from Microsoft Web site.

This is taken directly from the user guide:

13.5. Windows OneCore Voices

Windows 10 includes new voices known as "OneCore" or "mobile" voices. Voices are provided for many languages, and they are more responsive than the Microsoft voices available using Microsoft Speech API version 5.

Please see this Microsoft article for a list of available voices and instructions to install them:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/22797/windows-10-narrator-tts-voices

Please note that the faster rates available with Narrator are not currently available with NVDA. Also, the speed you select in the Windows Settings affects the rate set in NVDA. These are issues we cannot resolve without changes to Windows. We are hopeful that these will be addressed in a future Windows update.

It is certainly not straightforward.
For example I have recently been stuck in submitting only as draft and using

than publishing when you hit the publish button you re taken to other
options which my screenreader at least struggles to deal with.
In the end I managed to struggle through my wordpress blog settings and
managed to change them to allow submission by email which has sorted this to
a basic level. Even here on the settings page it was not at all clear. I hit
enable buttons but it was not clear as to what these buttons referred to.
More by luck than anything else I managed to make the change.

I think Wordpress has a lot to do to make the site more usable.

Re: Sumatra PDF Reader, was: Re: [nvda] The In-Process "Choose-your-own-adventure" edition of In-Process!

Mallard

When I contacted the devs of Sumatra pdf, they clearly stated that they don't know anything about accessibility, and wouldn't be willing to put any time and effort into it. Being an open source programme, they said, if anyone wants to take up the task, let them do so. But not they themselvles.

The situation is pretty much the same as with Calibre Viewer, or Calibre in general.

When you open a file with Sumatra, the text is only shown as an image, and is not extracted to let a screen rader access it.

I solve the problem now with Windows10 OCR, but that only shows one screen at a time, of course.

It's a pity that devs are so narrow-minded, and unwilling to help (the devs of Telegram are another shining example...).

I doubt it that NVDA can do anything about this issue with Sumatra and Calibre though.

Ciao,

Ollie

Re: Slightly OT: Accessible blogging platform

David Griffith

Wordpress may be technically accessible but personally I find it extremely confusing and difficult to use.
It is certainly not straightforward.
For example I have recently been stuck in submitting only as draft and using NVDA and Jaws could find no way of amending this o actually publish. Rather than publishing when you hit the publish button you re taken to other options which my screenreader at least struggles to deal with.
In the end I managed to struggle through my wordpress blog settings and managed to change them to allow submission by email which has sorted this to a basic level. Even here on the settings page it was not at all clear. I hit enable buttons but it was not clear as to what these buttons referred to.
More by luck than anything else I managed to make the change.

I think Wordpress has a lot to do to make the site more usable.

Hi.
Well if you use the latest wordpress theme then it will always be accessible.
But most things injegno I think is what is being used on another site but there is a custom style and all that jazz.
I am a beta tester of the wordpress platform and our themes are always accessible, the 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 themes all should work.
maybe our older ones will work to I am unsure but the latest theme you get with the latest version should always work.
Its easy enough if you do have a website or server.
As long as you have php 5.0 or whatever the latest version of that and mysql is installed as well as cpanel then its about all you need.
You need a mysql database to run the entire junket.
You then just load the base package and configure it, and bar some plugins it should just autoupdate for you in most cases.
Wordpress.com is good though I use it and its mobile site for my personal blog.
What I have done after creation is use wordpress.com/wp-admin and then its got me into the site then I use m.wordpress.com to access that.
But its easy as long as you turn the visual editor off.
For other platforms.
If wordpress is not your thing the next easy one is blogger.
Blogger and blogspot are part of google and all account holders of google including gmail and youtube have access to this.
3.  droople and maybe a couple others are usable but ofcause there are different setups it all depends what you want.

Re: Can't open Links in IE 11

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

have you got screen layout turned off?

Otherwise it will do the following.

Use screen layout
Key: NVDA+v
This option allows you to specify whether content in browse mode should place content such as links and other fields on their own line, or if it should keep them in the flow of text as it is visually shown. If the option is enabled then things will stay as they are visually shown, but if it is disabled then fields will be placed on their own line.

Mine is turned off. give that a try and see if it fixes the problem.

Re: can't get the dictation sound

Randy Barnett <randy@...>

It is the context that is different. Put Seari in British and try to use your phone. You will find that because of differences in phrasing and word use that it is hard to get it to do normal things like making a call with Seari. They don't say Call so and so. They say ring so and so... There a subtle things like that all through the language that have to be coded for. So it isn't stupid it is a matter of releasing it to the native market first then working on the code for other languages and dialects. Or should an American company work on other languages first then work on US English?
