I did try this feature that you disabled, the language switching, and it indeed switches between voices on websites. This is Sky from Victoria British Columbia Canada by the way.

Hi, Gene,

In the mail app, if you try typing something after hitting control R, you get a message that says something like "no document". You either have to shift tab to the subject line and tab back to the edit field for replying or hit the alt key and enter to hear the subject line.

I hope this clarifies things a little better for you.

I know but what he said is that when he uses the command control r to reply, he doesn't hear the command spoken.  I'm saying that it doesn't matter if you hear the command control r spoken.  If he is discussing something else, what is it?  I don't use the mail app but until I hear further, I will assume that control r is the reply short cut command because that command is so standard in Windows e-mail programs.  Is there some other problem such as that when using the command, you don't hear something like the re subject line spoken to tell you that the command has been executed?

Why is the question being asked in the first place?  Unless you have NVDA set to speak keys such as control, shift, the arrow keys, etc. you won't hear such commands spoken at any time.  You know from the response of programs what is occurring.  If the reply message opens, NVDA will say something that will tell you that a reply message has opened.  If you hear nothing or somethin incorrect, you have issued the wrong command or the command didn't work properly.  When I issue a command that should result in something being spoken, I don't continue until I hear the start of the speech confirming the command.  If I do, I might start writing a message before the program is ready to receive it or take an action in another program before the program is ready to take the action.  Being excessively dependent on hearing keys announced and basing what you do on hearing keys announced rather than the response of Windows or the program you are working in isn't a good way to work with Windows or programs.  I don't have such keys announced, which is the default, because it wouldn't benefit me in any way to hear them announced.  Even if I did hear them announced, I wouldn't take actions until the program indicated that it was ready to have actions taken.

I’m a winamp user when it comes to playing files but I’ve noticed  VLC has some pretty nifty recording features and I’d like to make the most of them.  I know about the addon you can get for tunein radio but I’m afraid I’d mess something up because I don’t know how to locate the files they tell you to look for.  Is there away around that?  Same with Iheart Radio.  Don’t know if there’s an addon for it but I’d like to  think you can somehow open IHeart streams up in VLC too.  Any ideas you guys might have would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.  Have a good evening.

Well software will have to catch up just like everything else.

To be honest bar the people app which is easy to turn off, I have not noticed much.

As for access software I think thats the way it will be now.

To be honest ms didn't start this look at how often the apple and android update look at how often apps update this is no different.

Obviously the comercial reader suppliers will have to keep up or else.

Nvda will always be the quickest to upgrade with dolphin not far behind jaws though hmmmph.

Does this happen while Jaws is running, or after you quite Jaws or its 40 minutes times out?

CONTROL+ALT+N is the shortcut to launch the desktop icon.  If you go to the desktop (windows+m), then find the shortcut and press ENTER on it, that should achieve the same thing in restarting NVDA, even if it is already running.  Does that work?

Hi

I have NVDA17.3, running in a win10 os.

If I run latest JAWS in 40 minute mode, then quit, I am unable to
restart NVDA (ctrl + alt +N) in the same session

In order to restart NVDA, I need to reboot.

Is anyone else experiencing this ?

Sadly wordpress.com is not the same as wordpress.org, they try to get you on to their pro options, though since the software is opensource they need to make cash somehow.

The mobile site is good enough but to be honest I have never had issues with it then I only have 1 main blog.

The only issue is your dates for posts will be at the end of the post rather than the top but its worked for me.

It is certainly not straightforward.
For example I have recently been stuck in submitting only as draft and using NVDA and Jaws could find no way of amending this o actually publish. Rather than publishing when you hit the publish button you re taken to other options which my screenreader at least struggles to deal with.
In the end I managed to struggle through my wordpress blog settings and managed to change them to allow submission by email which has sorted this to a basic level. Even here on the settings page it was not at all clear. I hit enable buttons but it was not clear as to what these buttons referred to.
More by luck than anything else I managed to make the change.

I am a beta tester of the wordpress platform and our themes are always accessible, the 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 themes all should work.
maybe our older ones will work to I am unsure but the latest theme you get with the latest version should always work.
Its easy enough if you do have a website or server.
As long as you have php 5.0 or whatever the latest version of that and mysql is installed as well as cpanel then its about all you need.
You need a mysql database to run the entire junket.
You then just load the base package and configure it, and bar some plugins it should just autoupdate for you in most cases.
Wordpress.com is good though I use it and its mobile site for my personal blog.
What I have done after creation is use wordpress.com/wp-admin and then its got me into the site then I use m.wordpress.com to access that.
But its easy as long as you turn the visual editor off.
For other platforms.
If wordpress is not your thing the next easy one is blogger.
Blogger and blogspot are part of google and all account holders of google including gmail and youtube have access to this.
3.  droople and maybe a couple others are usable but ofcause there are different setups it all depends what you want.

Hi, Gene,

With all due respect, the person asking the question is asking about the mail app which works a bit differently than other programs. He wasn't asking about windows live mail or other programs.

Hi, Gary,

What I did to hear the keys spoken was to hit the alt key. It says "lower ribbon reply control R". Then I hit enter on a message to reply and heard the keys spoken.

Hope this helps.

Re: Collapsing All Threads In The Mail App Windows 10

Greg Rhodes <gkrhodes@...>

When I’m deleting a thread of messages in the MS Mail app, I arrow down the message list. NVDA usually (but not always) reads the number of messages in the thread or announces “Level 2 (which is a listting of each message) or “Level 1” which is the entire thread. If NVDA says Level 1, I can hit the delete key and delete all messages in the thread. If NVDA says Level 2, I need to press the left arrow to change the focus to Level 1 and then hit the delete key. I’ve found, however, that sometimes I need to hit the right arrow once or twice until I hear Level 2, then hit the left arrow to get to Level 1. Hope that helps.

Still asking Microsoft to add an F6 command that will allow me to get to my list of email accounts (left hand column of Mail screen. F6 will currently toggle you between the Message list and the Reading pane. If I want to get to my list of email accounts, I have to do a Shift/Tab about 12 times. If anyone knows of a quicker way to get to the list of email accounts, please let me know.

I don’t know how to collapse all threads as I believe the charactgeristic of Mail is that the thread automatically opens in Mail when focus is on the thread. What is I do is just focus on any mail  in the list and press left arrow a couple of times and then you will hear collapsed. You can press the delete key now to delete the thread if you want or coursor down to the next thread.

I'd love to know that too, and an easier way to move between messages in a thread. This is what I love about the web Gmail app, the easy navigation between threaded messages.

Now that window eyes has pretty much gone away, it took something important along with it. see this website for more info. my question is this, could an addon be made for NVDA so students could use NVDA with logger pro and other science technology engineering and math solutions in the stem field? website is when vfo got rid of window eyes they also got rid of the ability of students to learn and work in stem fields. Perhaps crowd funding could fund a project to give NVDA similar functionality?

Hi Gary,

I use VLC media player with NVDA, and it works great, because there is a NVDA addon, just to make NVDA work better in VLC. It is so easy to use, and you can play even blue ray DVDs with it.

You can download it from doing a google search, and it is free and Open source just like NVDA is.

You can add plug ins to it to make it into a audio and video editor. NVDA works with VLC better than many players that I have tried, especially with the NVDA add on just for VLC.

Have a good one, Gary!

But there may be a specific reason Windows Media Player must be usede in this case.  Groove Music is a streaming service and, assumedly, it allows music to be listened to off line, but I would thing the music is DRM protected and would become available off line even if ripped or burned because such services don't want people to have music from them available if they are no longer members.  Such services make money by having people listen to and have access to music as members, not by members having access to music when no longer members.

Also, is the correct terminology being used?  Rip is creating MP3 files from a CD.  Do you, the person who asked the question, want MP3 files, from ripping, or do you want to burn a CD and have the music on a CD?  You say rip a CD and, since many people don't use correct terms for ripping and burning, this should be clarified.  I'm not assuming you use incorrect terms.  But since I don't know, I want to be sure you are actually wanting to rip and not burn a CD.
