Re: Question about using quick books with NVDA

Hi, I my self am curious as to weather NVDA can be
made to work with Quickbooks pro 2015, in the main screens such as create
invoice screen, and the menues of quickbooks.
If it can, and if any one with some technical know
how can assist, I'd be happy to try it out. since we also are running
quickbooks here, and I'm prevented from using it, due to the screen reader not
working with it. There was a JFW project if memory serves, but I am not sure if
NVDA also had one.

Re: Apology for NVDA and File Explorer advice
David Griffith
There are definitely some things that Exporer ++ can do that ~File Explorer cannot. For example You can save a directory listing of files. You can copy a folder or file path to the clipboard. You can copy a column of file information to the clipboard. You can split files. You can merge files. You can “destroy” files to delete at least to,some extent securely. You can set up bookmarks for tabs of windows in file explorer meaning you can navigate to frequently accessed folders easily. If you set it up in prefernces you can set the program so it treats any zip file as a normal windows folder making it unnecessary most of the time to unzip files. You just browse them in the way you would any other folder in Windows. You can do all of these things in Windows Explorer but normally you need third party utilities to do these things. Explorer ++ does these all natively and of course the main benefit is that it is freeware. There are probably other things that it can do which others will know about. I thinkg given it is free it is a useful tool to have anyway.

Thank you for making that clarification. Now I am curious whether there are features in that other program that you recommended that you think make it a good adjunct to file explorer, things you can’t do at all with FileExplorer, or can do more efficiently with that other program. Recently I stated that NVDA was sluggish for me with File Explorer on large drives. However I noticed when going through File Explorer settings for something else that somehow the Preview Pane option had been turned on. I don’t know how this happened as I normally always turn it off. Anyway since making this change NVDA has sped up to a perfectly acceptable level on File Explorer so I thought I should make this clarification. David Griffith

Anna should be able to be used by other programs, but if your talk clip program is loading anna and preventing it from being used by NVDA as well. If Narrator is able to use Anna where NVDA isn't, maybe it's found a way of accessing it that we aren't using.

Hi! I just upgraded to beta 14 of Firefox 57 to get a first-hand impression of the slowness, or performance issue, that seems to be plaguing early adopters. While I agree that it seems to be slower where page loading and general responsiveness are concerned, I also find that stability and reliability are great, including complex web pages. It takes some getting used to but isn't altogether an unpleasant experience as it is quite deterministic.Michel Such <michel.such@...> schrieb am Di., 7. Nov. 2017 um 16:43 Uhr:

Thank you for all your tips. I don't want to use google docs with Jaws as I use Jaws as a demo and only when I have to, as NVDA is my favourite screen reader. I did not know the shortcuts you mentionned, they are not listed in google's short cuts I looked at. I will try them. For your information, google docs works fine when you activate screen reader support with ctrl+alt+Z and braille support. I also tried it with chrome and it works good with NVDA. Thanks again, I will try all this. Best Sylvie

Re: update on sapi 5 problem
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
AS you have seen the only true error in sappi five has been that benign language change warning on some voices, one assumes cos for example Serena English is just English. However the inability of it to use Emily, seems to be to do with Emily being 16 bit while the others are 32 bit. I also experience clipping off at the end of Anna when used, as if they have not allowed enough time for her to finish saying the word.
