Re: NVDA will simply not run

Quentin, Frustrating though this may be, I feel like I am learning things. I have attached what I think is the file you need. Resorted to doing a search for it and it seems to contain the kind of information I thought it might. If this is not what you need, let me know. Starting to work with seniors after years of public school TVI teaching. Many of those older students are not eligible for Federally funded rehabilitation services, and the cost of JAWS will be out of reach for them. Having been a WindowEyes and JAWS user, the move to NVDA has been very easy. Thanks, Rick

In the %tmp% folder you should find a couple of "nvda" log files. Hopefully they will have information we can use. If you can e-mail me those I'd be happy to have a look.
See https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/LogFilesAndCrashDumps for information about what is in those files and more on how to get to them.
Kind regards
Quentin.

Lino Morales <linomorales001@...>
I got the same as I mentioned earlier. DO a shutdown and restart then check for updates. That should install it properly again.

Well I too had problems updating to RC2 on Turkey day here. I ran the installer and it said please wait for about an hour while I ate 2 plates of my Turkey day dinner. I shut down and restarted and checked for updates again and bang it installed without any problems.

Control w. It may be that control f4 will
close a tab as well but I don't recall if I've tried that command in
chrome.

not announce title attribute on link when use nvda
Hi all,
Why my nvda + browser not announce title attribute content on link. This question is very secret. but some people could hear the title attribute's content. Like this html code: <a href="http://www.nvaccess.org" title="open the new window" target="_blank"> nvaccess </a> I always only hear "nvaccess" when use nvda + browser(firefox, ie) on web or html file. and I test some machine the result is the same. example: win 7, win 10, nvda + firefox or nvda + ie But there are few people use their pc can hear it. Through long time, I still not understand what's wrong? Would some body tell me what about? Sorry for my terrible English, my english teacher cry if she read the letter. Logo Kuo from Taiwan

Hi could I make a suggestion?

The information about reporting issues and troubleshooting them etc, seems to be spread about on the nvaccess site and github site, and unless you take quite a lot of time to find these which can be hard for somebody new and when you have a problem, you might not feel happy about doing it. Perhaps a step by step problem troubleshooting text could be made complete with detailed info on creating a github account and the urls of the various bits like creating new issues and how to find existing ones, plus the info about log files and crash dumps and a very detailed explanation of how to attach files to issues, as this latter part seems hit and miss to me at the best of times. This could then be a downloadable file in the same place as you get nvda. That may also help with getting items reported and flagged up more promptly than happens now, so would help developers to prioritise issues that affect more people. There does seem to be a tendency recently to be critical of nvda but without anyone having actually reported the issue anywhere but here or talked about between users elsewhere. Re: NVDA will simply not run
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
So the installer itself if kept running does in fact work? does it use the settings of your installed version?
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
IE is it like a new install, or taking the voice etc of the old one? If the latter its probably not the config file, more likely a locked file in the old folder that is not deleted. I've encountered this, however the fact that it did not run as it was, before you started to try to update it might point to some corruption as well Czech the hard drive for errors. Have you actually had to do a system restore since it worked last time? If the installer does work then create a portable version, and add a desktop shortcut to that on the desktop and at least then you can use the computer. Then you can play around with things as the settings you had will be in the portable version and you simply create an installed version from it when you have found the nasty culprit! Have you got the same build of 10 as the original reporter had, I wonder? I've looked through messages and there seem to be several incarnations being used right now, probably insider updates, Creators and creators fall, and of course various minor updates to all of them over time.

Re: Very frustrating error in Outlook 2016
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
Looking through github last night shows a number if problems with Outlook in its various versions and nvda. I think a lot of the problems seem to be that not everyone can duplicate the issues or so it seems. There is probably something common to the people with major problems, no yet identified.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The main one seems to be actual crashing of Outlook which I believe has had a temp patch applied by some screenreader companies, but if I read the messages right it seems that the actual issue is a Microsoft one and nvda have been promised it will be fixed in a near update. As for message entries not being read sometimes, that seems odd to me, unless there is something wrong with Outlook It almost looks from your error that nvda thinks the objects are simply no longer there. Myself I gave up on Outlook for other reasons, but I do appreciate that many in business have to use it, and for now the grouping of messages seems to be the only work around for nvda, if you are a person afflicted by it until its better understood. I imagine that companies like Jaws and dolphin etc have the resources to put some programmers onto such things, getting hardware and software to emulate the situation very quickly whereas nvda has just a few core programmers, limited hardware and users to help with such problems.
