This isn't about changing settings. That's a
useful way to get to different settings quickly, which is useful but it doesn't
address the question which deals with notifications that appear in firefox and
how you move to them and work with them.

Re: How does NVDA read text boxes?

Why is it difficult for the screen reader to recognize text fields? If they would be defined as objects in the source code I think there would not be a problem. Or am I wrong?

This works because, once you are in a text box (or picture or other object) you can press TAB to move between them. 1 Save the document, to keep any changes you want to keep . 3 Press escape once (so you are out of the text itself but the text box is still selected), Text boxes are difficult for a screen reader to access. Open up your favorite archive manager, navigate to the "addon" folder and enter it. 5. Select everything in that folder, and create a zip file. 5. Rename the resultant zip file to something like "MozillaScript.nvda-addon" 6. Install the addon. Note: make sure you do not select the "addon" folder by itself; you need to be inside that folder when the zip file is created.

Thanks for this. I was in touch with the Microsoft Accessibility Team. They sent suggestions along using Narrator. However, even in the overview of that process, it was stated that Narrator would not work in presentation mode.

Hi Ann This discussion came up before, at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/2261984?p=Created,,,20,2,0,0here is one way of doing it. here is what you need to do. 2 Add a text box into a document by pressing alt+n, x, enter 3 Press escape once (so you are out of the text itself but the text box is still selected), 4 You can press TAB to move between the objects in the document (this wraps so if you press TAB on the last object in the document it will jump back to the first object). 5 Remove the text box you just added, by exiting the document without saving changes. Text boxes are difficult for a screen reader to access. My old dell has fans but its not the drive that seems to generate the heat its the processor itself. You can tell as when its working hard on things but not using the disc much the fan starts to speed up and the bottom gets hot. That is a Dell inspiron running xp, though it is supposed to be able to run 7, but have not bothered.

Yes I notice this on my machine with an ssd, a desktop though.

Tell me I assume this machine has no numeric keypad then. I'd rather like one as my older fingers are not as nimble aas they used to be. Also did you have to deactivate the function keys from being special laptop control keys? If one can get that in the same way but with 8 gigs of ram it would probably do me, but the lack of a back up drive might be an issue.the one in this desktop is 250 ssd, and I also have a 1tb one for back ups and non urgent files. Its amazing how you notice the speed difference when getting stuff from the old mechanical drive compared to the ssd. I've had this since 2015, and touch wood nothing has gone wrong. However I am keeping windows 7 for ease of use reasons. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Re: Bringing the review cursor to the focused cursor?
Gene
I don't know if NVDA ever specifically supported
Udora, but it works with programs that follow standard Windows
conventions. It might not work because there is something in Udora's code
that causes the review mode not to be aware of the cursor or the object.
What are you doing that you want to move back to
the current position? There may be other ways to do what you want.

Re: How to access Firefox notifications with NVDA
Gene
The question says:
Next I tried changing the file extension from .zip
to .nvda-addon. When I hit enter on it to install I get an error saying it is
missing a file or is in the wrong format.
Where was the file downloaded from, the Drop Box
account or the web page that was given later?
When something may be corrupted in a download and
there is no error message, the first thing that should always be done is to
download it again. Downloads at times aren't correct and there are no
error messages. If the file still can't be run after a second download,
maybe others will have more suggestions.

Re: filling out forms with adobe reader and nvda

Really the actual document has to have been made interactive in the first place for this to work. The supplier has probably just sent a pdf for sighted people to print out and fill in.

You can either ask them to rectify this either by an on line html form or supply you with a document you can edit. I've seen this so many times from companies who really should know better. I guess you might be able to extract the text and then reformat it into a text document, but why should you have to do their work for them? Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder.
