As I said before I would have been happy if we roled all the way back to espeak the last version and never update it at least the english databases. They were fine as they were ages ago back in 2013 or there abouts.

The whole problem which I suggested should really have meant rolling back espeak since its got other proglems too, revolved around it crashing espeak when certain characters were encountered. It also was not identifying these collections of symbols correctly which was also probably why it fell over when only one was seen, come to think of it.

Interesting David. Thanks for explaining. I didn't know you could turn narrator on as it's booting. Is this your main laptop? I just worry about filling that drive up in 5 minutes. smile.

Hi guys! My HP Stream 11 has a SSD drive, and no fan. I have nothing to hear what so ever. It makes it interesting, because sometimes, it locks, and I can’t tell if it is still on or has it totally turned off LOL! Hi all,
Having installed the mozilla add-on, thanks to Gene's direct link, I have been trying to find a setting for the preview pane in T-bird and I'm coming up empty. I've been going through the menus systematically, but I know they can change depending on where you are in the program when you start this process. I've been in the message list and am not seeing anything about envoking a preview pane; I thought I'd see it in the view menu. Mary

Yes I had terrible trouble in word with supernova and different versions of word seemed to completely screw it up each time as well. I often wondered why when Microsoft was writing a new version, they did not make finding the objects and the things inside them more easy from the screenreader point of view. I did try Jaws once back on XP but found that awful as well.

Hi Ann This discussion came up before, at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/2261984?p=Created,,,20,2,0,0 here is one way of doing it. This works because, once you are in a text box (or picture or other object) you can press TAB to move between them. here is what you need to do. 1 Save the document, to keep any changes you want to keep . 2 Add a text box into a document by pressing alt+n, x, enter 3 Press escape once (so you are out of the text itself but the text box is still selected), 4 You can press TAB to move between the objects in the document (this wraps so if you press TAB on the last object in the document it will jump back to the first object). 5 Remove the text box you just added, by exiting the document without saving changes. Text boxes are difficult for a screen reader to access. Re: efficient reading of messages in Outlook 2016 with NVDA
Mary Otten
Hi all,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I just looked at a brief document on the MS website regarding threading of messages in Outlook 2016. It looks complicated. I'm just wondering if there is a way to have conversation view and still get the benefit of efficient message reading. Advantage of conversation view is that if you have a thread that does not interest you, you can get rid of the whole thing at once. But then that would seem to preclude the ability to have a message open, delete it and automatically move to the next message and have it start reading. I guess maybe you can't have it both ways? I'd like to be wrong. Mary

question re nvaccess site and training materials
Mary Otten
I suppose this is mostly directed at Quenton. My experience with the access site is that I absolutely can't get to the "shop" link using firefox esr version, but with IE11, it is easy. Why might that be? I mean, I can't even find it with the find command when using ff.
also, with regard to the ebooks for Word and the basic training materials, what format are those in? I didn't see that mentioned on the training materials page. Thanks. Mary

Re: How to access Firefox notifications with NVDA
Chris
No, its supposed to have the .nvda-add-on extension
You can try opening nvda settings menu goto tools and select manage add-ons In the dialog that opens you should have a list of installed add-ons And several buttons, so if you tab around till you get to the install button , press enter and browse for the zip file and select it and hit enter, it should then install, check in the the add-ons list Then close and restart nvda

NVDA > The file I downloaded is called > MozillaScrips-master.zip. Is this what the addon is suppose to be called. Here's how you get this going. 1. extract the zip file to somewhere. There will be a folder called "addon" in there. 2. Copy the file manifest.ini.tpl Into the "addon" folder 3. Rename that file to "manifest.ini" less the quotes of course. 4. Open up your favorite archive manager, navigate to the "addon" folder and enter it. 5. Select everything in that folder, and create a zip file. 5. Rename the resultant zip file to something like "MozillaScript.nvda-addon" 6. Install the addon. Note: make sure you do not select the "addon" folder by itself; you need to be inside that folder when the zip file is created.
