Re: Fillable PDF Forms & NVDA
Well, additional developments that some may find interesting. I downloaded the tax year 2015 (as in should have been filed on April 18th 2016) version of the 1040EZ and I still get the same result in Adobe Reader DC. So, I decided to try a form that I'd customized in Microsoft Word for a client about a year and a half ago where every blessed field (or at least the ones I set up in the demo form - I didn't complete the myriad checkboxes that the paper version contains) has alternate text and help text. If I open this in Word and have NVDA running it does precisely what I think it should do: Announces the alternate text when I land in the form field and, if I hit F1, displays the help text box and reads its contents. I have to believe that either the IRS forms are not set up correctly to be accessible or else there's something that doesn't "play well together" between Adobe Reader DC and NVDA. If I hit NVDA+TAB in anything I've tried so far I do not get the field name announced. Brian Brian

This is a known issue, and a fix is on its way. In NVDA 2016.2, the

Mr. Wong Chi Wai <cwwong.pro@...>
Hi,
I know we can choose to purchase the vocalizer for NVDA, but those voices cannot be called by other software. If I want to purchase a single voices that can be called by different software...is there a way that I can purchse from Nuance??? Thanks.

Problems with Excel Chart
Shantanu Choudhury <choudhuryshantanu00@...>
Hello Everyone,
Greetings ! I have just joined this group and this is my first mail. I am facing difficulties while working with Excel chart and it would be great help if I get guidance on this. I am using NVDA 16.1 and MS Office 2007, on Windows 7. 1. I have created chart by pressing F11 key and it creates a chart for the selected data on a new worksheet. By pressing arrow keys I am able to access the axis, legend, chart area, plot area of the chart. 2. Now I want to check the data points of the chart (like in a bar chart, what is the specific value of bar). When I press Insert + F7 to access the elements list, it does not open the element list and instead spell check for the chart got completed. Then I switched to the Data sheet and pressed insert + F7 there. It opened elements list but when I select charts on the elements list, it is showing nothing. How to access chart from elements list ? 3. I closed and re opend the excel and switched to the sheet where the chart got created. Now NVDA is not reading anything about the chart, pressing arrow keys or any other keys is not working. How can I access this sheet now? Other data sheets are read by NVDA, only chart sheets are not accessible. Any comments / suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, Shantanu Choudhury.

Windows own audio settings? As in, change the input channel it listens to? Sorry can't be of more help, but, really just used it for simple little tests. Virtual recorder does, alternatively give you a bit more control over what it will listen to/use as recording source? You'd then still need to patch the audio over the video clip though, using virtual dub, or something similar? Re: Fillable PDF Forms & NVDA
Gene
The message states that tabbing doesn't work.
If tabbing doesn't work, it is very unlikely that numpad 5 or, what is actually
the correct key, numpad 8, will work. Numpad 8 is the read current
line command. Numpad 5 is the read current word command. You want to
read the line, not a single word.
The only command I know that may be relevant is
NVDA key tab. JAWS key tab does the same thing. It reads the field
you are in. While possible that this will help, I doubt it. but you
can try.

Re: NVDA and a free office
Gene
I don't consider such minor inconveniences to be
meaningful. If you have to issue an extra keystroke and that's all, that
is a minor work around and doesn't indicate how the program performs overall
when compared with another. I don't know how the programs compare for
blind people but I read somewhere that Libre Office is updated in a more timely
manner and is more current. As a blind computer user who uses more than
just a small number of programs known to be fully accessible, such work arounds
are likely to be needed in this or that program.
What, if any other differences, do you like about
Open Office?

I had a similar situation with a survey that I filled out for Microsoft. For some strange reason, NVDA didn't see all the filds so I used system access to go and it worked perfectly. This wasn't a PDF form but NVDA didn't see all the fields but system access to go did. Rosemarie
