Hello again:

Thanks for finding time to respond to my issue. I use Windows 7-32Bit on my computer. I honestly can't figure out what the problem might be, siince one of us says he uses viavoice outloud, and he doesn't have the same problem. I do a widows update regularly, and I use the microsoft security essential antivirus software to clean my computer. I even did a defragmentation recently, and a disc clean. Talking about the quincy variant of Espeak: how can I get it. I don't here it listed among the voices. Thanks. From Ibrahim.

You should just use espeak. It works. Now as for the crashes, could be a virus, run your antivirus program. Could be windows, reformat and it will go away. Could be overheated things maybe a stuck fan or something.

I'm not sure why a sappi 4 synth would make any difference to how a computer works on the web. I have that synthe here, its almost but not quite Eloquence from the sound. I do not particularly like it but it works in most cases.

I think maybe we might need to look a little deeper into the software or hardware you are using. Are you saying that although you cannot understand Espeak (not even the Quincy variant?), it does not crash or hang? What is the spec of the machine, and how are you going on the internet, is it wifi, direct connection or some kind of dongle connected to usb? Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Re: NVDA Not working Well On My Internet Connection

You said you suspect it is the synthesizer. I
have no idea if it is. I use Via Voice whith NVDA and, while NVDA crashes
because of it, the crashes don't occur when you describe yours occurring and
they don't happen nearly as often.
You could send the relevant part of the log here
but someone with more technical knowledge will, I hope, discuss that further if
you want to do that.
Another way to find out is that even though you
don't understand E-Speak, you can determine whether it is the synthesizer by
using e-speak while doing things you say causes a crash. or use whatever
the default voice is in your version of
Windows for the tests. If you tell us what
version of Windows you are using, we can tell you how to tell NVDA to use the
default voice. then, when you are finished testing, you can just set the
voice back to Via Voice by issuing the command control NVDA key r.

Subject: [nvda] NVDA Not working Well On My Internet
Connection I'm having a very odd problem with NVDA. It doesn't work normally on my computer, with the internet. It crashes from time to time. It happens on all the different browsers, including firefox, internet explorer and chrome. It happens most times, when I want to open a link in a new window. Some times when a crash occurs, it affects the computer that I have to shut it down all together in order to make it function again. Added to this, when I attempt to spell out a word using my right arrow key, the screen reader just shuts down. I suspect the problem has to do with the synthesiser I use with the screenreader. I use a synth called viavoice outloud. It is an old synth. I can't use the pre-installed ESpeak, because I don't understand what it says. I've tried out different English tones, but I just can't understand any of them. As for the microsoft voices, they are just too low. I don't have any problems with other programs on the computer. The screenreader works very well on them. Added to this, I don't have problems going through my mails on Gmail, and composing messages. All these work very well too. So, can anyone please suggest what I can do? Hope to read some help. From Ibrahim in Nigeria.

The only thing I can think of is that all your messages are going into the inbox in the mail app. That's why it could be taking a long time for all your messages to download. You can't filter message in the mail app like you can with programs like outlook and mozilla thunderbird. I don't know what else could be going on with the mail app. Rosemarie

Hi all. In the logon screen or in the configuration’s screens for example, if I use the object review, nvda find many itens and read their text. But if I switch to screen review, nvda doesn’t find any thing. I did the same tests with narrator. If I press space + capslock, it creates a kind of review mode with the screen text. Is it a nvda’s bug?

They would need to know which version of Chrome it is and of course set the log to debug and grab a copy of the offending bit and post it, not all of it, not here at any rate!

Re: Answering yes in the windows 10 games bar
Actually there is a toggle that will let you record the game but I can't remember what it is. I think it's windows alt g and windows alt r to start and stop recording for upto an hour I think is what you can set that to.

Sent: Friday, December 29, 2017 8:14 AM To: nvda@nvda.groups.io Subject: [nvda] Another Wording Question
I am creating a text version of a help page. I need to describe in text a common pop-up window that the windows operating system displays. It would be shown as a picture to sighted users. To describe it, I have written:
When the file is made, you will be asked whether to open it or save it. A pop-up window will appear to ask "Do you want to open or save filename from blah.faa.gov?" followed by the buttons Open, Save, Cancel, and Close this Window.
As a sighted user, I see an X on the pop-up window and know that it means “Close this Window”. But, how does it read to you? Is it called “Close this Window” or what is it called by the screen reader?
Likewise, the Save button is really a drop-down menu that is defaulted to Save. How does it call out the menu to you? I want to use the right words in my description.
Thanks and sorry for the bother,
Tonea
