Re: navigating between frames

Shasa

Hello there,
There are other problems that save us time.

When we open a document with LibreOffice, NVDA's cursor does not focus on the context. NVDA's cursor is hanging in an uncertain location.
And I press the ALT key, then I press ESC.
That's how I solve the problem.

Hello,

I am experimenting with labels in Libre office writer, I have a sheet of labels on screen, NVDA announces these as frames, I can’t see the screen but I can use the physical mouse and NVDA announces the number of the frame, left clicking gets me into the frame and I can type into it and read it back.
The problem, is using keyboard shortcuts to go between these frrames, does anyone know of the shortcut to navigate between frames?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Best Regards, Jim.

Re: An easier command to copy current line?

For instance let's say I'm in Filesilla (the FTP client) from within the Read-only field where the connection status and other info is coming out onscreen, thus with NVDA+l I can read the current line as the information is being displayed. What I?d like to do is to somehow copy this info onto the clipboard kind of like what NVDA+t 3 times does to copy to the clipboard.

Any ideas? thus my requesting that some sort of easy copy current line command be available?

browser FF58 on January 23^rd 2018 as it promised!

I’m very much delighted to let you know that NVDA is well a head of
all screen reader regarding the use of FF58.

The matter of fact is that I have JAWS 18.4530, JAWS 2018.1712.54,
narrator and NVDA 2017.4.

I have tested FF58 with all of them and I found out that Fire Fox 58
is working the best with NVDA 2017.4.

I really couldn’t understand that even then Freedomscientific/VFO is
charging hundreds and thousands of US Dollars from visually
challenged people and from different agencies which are helping
visually challenged people, why they haven’t come up with JAWS update
before releasing of Fire Fox 58!

This fundamental question is enough to convince those people and
agencies which are giving hundreds and thousands of Dollars to
Freedomscientific/VFo, should donate a hand some amount of money to
NVAccess as well so it can work for the betterment of visually
challenged people better than before!

In short all I can say is “East and west, NVDA is the best”

An easier command to copy current line?

Gerardo Corripio

Don't you all think that there should be an easy command kind of like NVDA+t three times, that would when doing, NVDA+l in Laptop layout, for the current line's contents to be copied onto the Clipboard? for instance a File name, an error command etc. Yes there's the Speech History which I do have, but it doesn't always seem to work right, in that it doesn't seem to capture the totaity of what NVDA has said: ON some commands, for instance, instead of copying the whole command, it only copies the last part of the message. Any ideas? thus my requesting that some sort of easy copy current line command be available?

Hi,

Before the Windows reinstall, I used to have a great add on for first letter navigation in Thunderbird to get to folders quickly. I have this saved to my computer, but can't get it moved into NVDA to use it nor can I find it on the site. Is this add on still available and if so, can someone please help me with it? Thanks.

The question of OCR scanning Image Scanned PDFs that one knows contain text comes up again and again.  If you don't want to invest some huge amount of money in a fully dedicated specialty OCR suite there is an excellent option available for free from Tracker Software:  PDF-XChange Viewer.

This software is not 100% accessible, but what you need to perform an OCR scan on an Image Scanned PDF is.

You have nothing to lose but a few minutes time to test out either PDF-XChange Viewer (which uses the "old Windows interface style" and I know to be accessible for running OCR) or the free edition of PDF-XChange Editor to check out whether it suits your needs.  I personally prefer PDF-XChange Viewer.  Here are the step-by-step instructions I wrote for a client who was a grad student who kept having old image scanned PDFs assigned for reading by various professors on how to OCR process them using PDF-XChange Viewer:

Used when you receive a PDF that was scanned without Optical Character Recognition.  For reading stick to Adobe Reader or other reader of your choice as PDF-XChange Viewer is not 100% accessible.

1.     Open PDF-XChange Viewer from your start menu or the desktop.

2.     ALT+F, O  Open a file, you’ll need to know where it is and navigate there in the Open Dialog, which is very much like Windows Explorer.

3.     CTRL+SHIFT+C  Perform optical character recognition on the file.  This will be quick for small files, 20 pages or less, but will take some time for very large files, hundreds of pages.  Listen for the process to complete.

4.     ALT+F, S  Save the file over itself with the OCR text now included.  If you wish to save the file under a different name and keep the original use ALT+F, A Save As to do this instead.

Same with me!

I am using NVDA latest master development snapshot,

And it works really well with Firefox 58. I am accessing so many
programs, apps, and browsers with NVDA verses JAWS. JAWS is getting
way behind. NVDA works much better in Edge, for example. I really
want to show my gratitude for all you do.

I just tried the News app with JAWS 2018 and NVDA, and NVDA works
much better. I am using NVDA more and more to do just what I want to do.

Also, NVDA lets me know, in the mail app, as I type, when I made a
spelling mistake. I can just press Shift+F10 to correct it.

That is beautiful.

Respected friends, as you are well aware that Mozilla has updated its
browser FF58 on January 23^rd 2018 as it promised!

Welcome to NVDA 2018: NVDA tools and config profiles posted, complete packages for parts 4 and 5 are ready

Hi everyone,

The penultimate part in Welcome to NVDA 2018 tutorial set is now available. This part (part 8) talks about NVDA tools and configuration profiles. As always, the tutorial can be found at www.josephsl.net/tutorials under “Welcome to NVDA 2018” heading. Be sure to read release notes below for details.

Also, the complete packages for parts 4 (NVDA and the Web) and 5 (NVDA and Popular Applications) are now up. Due to length of these sections, they have been divided into multiple parts as follows:

Last minute change: in NVDA and the Web section, “finding text” segment is back, now covers case-sensitive search. Also, in live regions and others section, mentioned aria-current tag.

Changes for part 8 from 2015 edition:

  • Completely redone.
  • Expanded coverage of Python console.
  • New interface for speech viewer and ability to launch speech viewer when NVDA starts.
  • Added a segment on content recognition/Windows 10 OCR.
  • New examples for configuration profiles.

At the moment the tutorial set production is going through a home stretch (putting last minute effort while adjusting to new school schedule and moving to a new place). Thus, it is likely that the last part (add-ons) won’t show up until next week. But even with that done, the tutorial set won’t be complete: at least two addenda are planned, along with integrating Touch Interaction dialog into main tutorial set and editing some preferences segments. The entire series (lasting at least 12 hours) will be done shortly prior to NVDA 2018.1 hits the air. The final product will then consist of nine sections, two addenda (NVDA and Windows 10 on ARM, NVDA as a converted desktop app), and mostly based on NVDA 2018.1.

Enjoy.
Cheers,

Joseph
