Well, my fix was Chrome browser. :)
Works just fine so far. So, this is not an NVDA and windows thing as
far as I can tell.

I did that, I even rebooted the machine but the directory still has the “pending installation” in the name. I think from moving about the Window 10 environment that the addon is probably working, but I am still a little concerned. If I stop NVDA and

I see that Google drive are nagging me to update to the back up and restore new version. I disabled updates some time ago to keep the old format as nvda would not work very well with the newer versions coming out and also they were crashing machines all over the place
Is it now safe to update as the cryptic message its putting up every so often is that its no longer supported, which could just mean its not ever going to get security updates or that they intend to stop users with the old software from accessing the system any more. I have no idea which, but a few days after Google also nagging me to not use email clients to access their accounts they do seem to be getting a bit too aggressive toward their users in my view.

Is there any other easy to use cloud storage that can run on old xp machines,which is the only real reason for using google drive at all since dropbox stopped its software running, mainly due to the fact that they started to use a newer code compiler that made code that fell over on xp.

Ask your friend do re-download the book, with the new installer you
sent, and see if the option is available  from the menu. If it is, it
means he's got the old version of the book, downloaded with the rpevious
version of Kindle for Pc, and he should obtain a newer format.

Perhaps more importantly, context menus for files and folders in Windows Explorer are also not read. For me, that is. It would be great if other Windows Insiders could try to reproduce, to prevent this from suddenly affecting users post 2018.1.

Here's one piece of evidence it's NVDA-related and not just my system: JAWS does not have those problems. Reinstall of NVDA does not fix them, neither does restoring factory defaults.
