Yes. I’m sorry. It’s my mistake, mostly. This is a (rare) case of a program that seems to work much better with JAWS than it does with NVDA. I thought I had used it with NVDA before, but I use both screen-readers (still quite new to NVDA in fact) and sometimes my internal wires get crossed. I’m sure you could still use the program with nVDA, but arrowing through the list of tasks, for example, currently does not give any speech feedback with nVDA. I apologise for steering people wrong on this list.

Hi where do you get this program from?
And is it free and easy to install?
One last thing what do you need to do when you install it and use
it?
One last thing what do you all need to do to use the program and
set it up?

I'm sorry you are spending so much time trying to solve the problem. I think that, rather than continuing to try to solve it, it makes much more sense to open the program without NVDA running, then just leave it opened.
Of course, it's up to you how much time you want to spend solving what is a minor annoyance, I wouldn't have spent much time on it at all, myself. There are some problems that, in my opinion, aren't worth spending time trying to solve when there is an easy work around.

Apart from working my way around starting Outlook without the reader, I have made no progress in figuring out what is the cause or solution for why my Outlook crashes when trying to open while NVDA is running. Here is what has been tried--all without success:
1. I don't know about logs, but the programmer who helped me said that the NVDA log shows no problem when the event occurs. 2. We have restored Windows to two different restore points dated before I noticed the problem. 3. We repaired Office through a long Internet connected repair process.

Hello Didier,
you could set a configuration profile for those apps which triggers only when you come across them. In that profile, you could disable "use capslock key as NVDA key" in keyboard settings. It should work.

Hi all,
I am pretty happy running emacspeak in a linux gentoo system as a virtualbox guest on my windows system.
I run the X version launched by the cygwin startxwin command as follows: "startxwin `which ssh` -XY dcolle@localhost emacs -- -multiwindow"
This has the advantage that I am not bothered with the lag while typing in the cygwin shell, good clipboard integration between both environments, and I am not bothered with the virtualbox guest modifier keys.
That works great in combination with NVDA for the host environment.
Until now I have been using the windows host for webbrowsing and pdf file reading. Now I want to try this in the gentoo vbox environment (that recently there have been problems with firefox is no coincidence; even ff58 does not run always flawlessly).
My intention is to launch firefox or evince from the cmd-line in the emacspeak environment; to make them accessible I would need the orca screen reader.
Orca uses caps-lock as modifier in laptop layout (and insert in desktop layout): the same modifier keys as NVDA is using.
I guess that will not work nicely together. (I have still to experiment).
Thus my general question: how to deal with apps using themself modifier keys identical to those used by NVDA? Is it possible to avoid NVDA consuming such key combinations while in certain apps?
Thanks a lot and kind regards,
Didier

Nvda goes silent the sequal
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
I was just browsing the system tray while back up was doing its thing this morning when I encountered the nvda going away issue. This is windows 7 pro, with the latest master snap actually running as an installed copy. Now if you hate repitition, read no further as I'm about to post a very boring log fragment. Eventually explorer, which had stopped, came back but still would not respond, so I did a terminate and reboot manually blind as it were. It looks to me from this, that sometime during a back up, Explorer went away, leaving nvda frozen. This seemed to be around the time I was pressing the app key to see if I could bring up backup or some indication it might be almost done. Anyway, enough waffle. for those interested. here is the log. The interesting thing is that as far as I can see no other keys were registered by nvda, but clearly I was pressing them to reboot nvda. At which point explorer rebooted is anyones guess, likewise why it went away in the first place. I doubt anything can be done on such sparse info, but it does demonstrate that odd things do occur, and trying to make them happen to order is almost impossible.

That is the way it ended as I'd used a batch file to forciby close the old copy and after a timeout and it not working with nvda /q, it did it brute force wise and rebooted nvda again on a new log of course.

I wasn't trying to bring other screen readers into
it. However you said the program didn't work. That is simply not
true. it's a NVDA issue clearly.

Yes you are correct – If I switch to Jaws
the list of processes become readable.
When I switch back to NVDA all I hear is
Pane when I try to navigate to the same window.
Slightly odd.

Agree – I
had exactly the same experience.
Running
latest version of NVDA with Win 10 essentials.
The program
opens but all you hear in both Windows is list
I tried OCR
but was told that there was no recognisable text.
I went to investigate options and show process
tree was disabled with no apparent way to enable it so it may be just that
the program does not work rather than being an accessibility
issue.

Because of a recommendation
on this list I downloaded and installed
Process Explorer from
SysInternals, but it is totally inaccessible with
NVDA, not usable at
all.

Agree – I had exactly the same experience. Running latest version of NVDA with Win 10 essentials. The program opens but all you hear in both Windows is list I tried OCR but was told that there was no recognisable text. I went to investigate options and show process tree was disabled with no apparent way to enable it so it may be just that the program does not work rather than being an accessibility issue. If by the add-on you mean the Windows 10 App Essentials add-on, then yes to both questions. Not just the most updated Windows and add-on, but also the latest NVDA master snapshot. With all that going, Process Explorer is unusable with NVDA. You can try it for yourself.

Re: Cannot Start Outlook 2016 While NVDA Is Running
Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>
However, one issue is that it may well be a symptom of a more serious problem. I'd feel very irked at such a weird situation and simply have to find a reason. The other day I had to remove the dreaded Avast from a system which had acquired it via a ccleaner download, and although it seems to have worked well, now when certain programs are run, the computer actually restarts itself. Numerous tests suggest all is as it was and even bring it back to before installation of avast makes it do the same thing.Luckily these pieces of software are system tools by third parties so not really an issue most of the time, but it does make one realise how many weird ways there are to run-in a perfectly working system.
Short of a complete re install of everything there is probably no way to fix it as it is the diagnostic tools that cause the crashes. Brian

Dear All,
Apart from working my way around starting Outlook without the reader, I have made no progress in figuring out what is the cause or solution for why my Outlook crashes when trying to open while NVDA is running.
Warmly, Ralph

Yes! Press Insert+S to cycle through speech off, speech with beeps, and speech on. Each time you press S, You keep cycling through. So, just press Insert+S to turn the NVDA’s speech off so you can listen to Cortana. That is how I do it! You can also use the Caps lock if you have that modifier key enabled.
