I haven't found a fix, but I am also seeing a very similar issue
starting today using Firefox ESR or 58 and windows 7 and latest
release nvda 2017

I have not seen this on any other websites, only google.com

No issue using chrome to go to the google.com page

By the way, I had the latest Firefox when this problem first appeared. I

any
problem. This issue seems to apply only to Firefox when using the Google
search engine.



Please help while I still have some hair left!

Brian, I do know that wednesdays are at least for me in new zealand the days updates happen.

So I usually get up at 6 am, turn on all the systems I can, and remote into all the systems that are active, and update them all with all the updates, by 7-7.30 updates come from ms and I update before I use the system.

Well, in frustration, I uninstalled the latest version of NVDA and installed one from 2015.  Voila! Everything is working.  I don't know why.  No more unknowns and silences.  Since it's an earlier version perhaps the finer tunings don't work as well, but it's nice to have it back!

Hi all,

 

I am using Firefox latest version, windows 10 and Google search page with the latest NVDA.

 

I have set my default page in Firefox to:

“https://www.google.ie/search?complete=0”

Thank you all.  I've installed the NVDA addon and will be doing some more exploration later.  For those interested, 3.0 brings functionality for casting directly to a Chromecast using the media/render menu option.  If all goes well, your Chromecast should appear in the submenu that appears when you invoke this menu item.  You will have to approve a UAC check, and then it just works.  (Or rather, it just works sort of, when it feels like, according to no rhyme or reason I can yet discover, still it's better than the state of play before, and presumably, this functionality is under development.)

did someone try vlc version 3?
the last version that i tried is 2.2.8.
it workes, but not very intuative like km or potplayer.
for example:
i cant go forward or backword using just left and right arrow keys which makes navigation a little fifficult.
and when i go to preferences nvda says pane pane pane many times, after announcing specific option, it tells about fonts!
exactly like the time that you use nvda+f!
what should i do to prevent this problem?

Hello especially to the NVDA developers


A few days ago (a few snapshots ago) I wrote that when I updated NVDA to the new snapshot, I received an error message with the following label:


nvdaHelperRemote (outprocMgrThreadFunc)

The text of the error message is:


Error registering focus winEvent hook

Then there is an Ok button. When I Ok the dialog, NVDA works, except that there is no browse mode buffer which makes web browsing impossible.


This problem persists with the very latest snapshot which I have just installed, so I had to fall back again to the last working snapshot which is from about 4 February. This happens only on my 64 bit machine.


The result of this is that I have not been able to use the last number of snapshots and I have a real concern that this problem may manifest itself once 2018.1 gets released which would mean that I will not be able to use that version on my 64 bit machine.


Does anyone have any idea what is happening here?

for example: when using gmail, because i use basic html and disabled
javascript, i can even use firefox 3 to use my gmail!
its very interesting and joyful for me to know, i can use any version

i wish that know for xp users is it possible to use google docs for

i did not test it until now, but in many different programs, i recieve
the error which you mentioned.

I assume its still the earlier version which is running then?
Have you tried a reinstall of it?
Also what happens if you do the update to the latest version.


Did the update mess with any settings in windows at all? Such as the processor throttling or maybe the indexing settings?

Well, in frustration, I uninstalled the latest version of NVDA and installed one from 2015. Voila! Everything is working. I don't know why. No more unknowns and silences. Since it's an earlier version perhaps the finer tunings don't work as well, but it's nice to have it back!

What I described about how to listen on this site isn't standard.  How this site works in that respect might be new to a lot of people, even if they use the Internet regulartly. 
 
I didn't know how to work with the player until I experimented.  I pressed enter on the word application but nothing happpened.  I pressed enter on the word web in the phrase web player but nothing happened.  I then tried tabbing instead of down arrowing and I found the buttons I discussed.  I tried various things without having any idea if any would work. This approach did.

That's nice but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try what I said.  You can listen online and you will have such problems in future with various audio streams unless you learn other ways of working with audio sites that have podcasts than just use save target as.

Some sites actively prohibit downloading of their content. I've noticed this
for copyright material, where you can listen but not store locally. there
are of course ways around many of these but I'd be a bit worried about
mentioning any here except the obvious one of virtunual recorder.

Please provide full links.  You can go to the page you are having a problem with, in this case the page where the link is you are trying to follow, copy the address to the clipboard from the address bar, then paste it into the message.  That way, people can go to the same page immediately. 

 

The way you are doing it now, people have to verify the address of the site with an Internet search, go to the home page, then look for and go to what they think is the page you are having a problem with.

Tell us the site, often they have a different link to download to the play
one.
 There could be many reasons apart from copyright, it may well be that the
files are not in the same place all the time and the html inteermediary page
then redirects the user to the right place. Examining some of these
downloaded small html files can give a clue to where the file actually is
stored but not always.

Either your mouse pointer is not actually in the right position to activate the link (if you are using right click, this may well be the case), or, as has already been said, the link takes to you to a page, and isn’t actually an mp3 download. Hit enter and see what happens. I personally much prefer the way Firefox handles downloads….

hi.
did someone try vlc version 3?
the last version that i tried is 2.2.8.
it workes, but not very intuative like km or potplayer.
for example:
i cant go forward or backword using just left and right arrow keys
which makes navigation a little fifficult.
and when i go to preferences nvda says pane pane pane many times,
after announcing specific option, it tells about fonts!
exactly like the time that you use nvda+f!
what should i do to prevent this problem?

There is a tutorial up on my website for VLC media player but it is more for
playing dvds with audio description and music which should also have a link
to the add on in the page.
