Re: issue with google chrome 64 update.

Quentin Christensen

Which version of NVDA are you using?

I just tried with Chrome Version 64.0.3282.167 (Official Build) (64-bit) (Chrome says it's up to date), and with NVDA 2017.4 and also the latest Next snapshot and I can press alt+left and alt+right arrows to move between pages.  Possibly something else is interfering with the keystroke?

If you've updated anything lately, maybe restart it, and even the machine (you posted this three days ago so you possibly have since then anyway).  Otherwise, are you using any Chrome extensions that might be playing funny?

Regards

Quentin.

No problem at all re asking the question - if you don't ask, you'll never know :)

Many people use NVDA in different ways, and different people need different information read out.  In NVDA's Document formatting dialog - press NVDA+control+d to open it (or press NVDA+n for the NVDA menu, then choose "Preferences" then "Document formatting"), you can select which elements and information get read out, including list information.

Kind regards

I hope this makes sense and hope it's not too trivial.

Re: qbittorrent was Re: [nvda] usable torrent client recommendations?

JM Casey <crystallogic@...>

There was a message from John Isige explaining this. He pointed me me to this url. Go here and follow the instructions. You will have to alter both the flags in the normal "advanced settigns" dialog as well as the hidden one, which you may have to get creative to get to. It requires a simultaneous mouse click and the pressing of shift-f2 on the keyboard. There is no other way to do it.

Assuming you're using a command-line version of wget (is there any other sort?
I don't know) and assuming it uses the same options as the Linux version, the

-c continue a previously-interrupted download without starting again

-w n wait for n seconds between retries if a download fails

Subject: [nvda] Master snapshot is only 540k

Hi guys

is the servers playing up? For the last couple of days i have been trying
to download a master snapshot and each time it comes down it is only
about 540k. Is the server playing up? for when i go to click on it up
comes a security smart screen I think it is the windows one.

I am also wondering if things have changed like it is a stub then it gets
the main file? I am guessing not.

I usually like once a week to see what might of gone into it each week.

Has any one else had the same problems?

This was doing it from inside of the master snapshot under the help
section.

I have also tried it from the main page and still got the same results.

This was again on feb 18th and also tried on the 17th

I wonder failing all of that if there is a keep alive setting in WGet where it will just keep trying and resuming until the download is gotten, or you can try it from a remote box via ssh somewhere and then download it from there later.

Hi Brian

I just tried getting the snapshot with sea monkey and doing it manually and i get the following message below.

C:\Users\hurri\AppData\Local\Temp\1yjDH9cM.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

Even if it does start downloading it dies shortly after.

It seems to do it in all the browsers not download but other sites will let me download stuff.

It is weird how some can get it and not others.

If not then its a routing issue to the servers from your location by the sounds of it, but its very odd. Anyone else you know in your area who can also try it? Might be good to see if its your end or in fact a widespread issue.
I guess you could try some pings to the server address and see if the round trip time or packet loss is unacceptable.

But this is much worse. In this system, the program continues to contact the server to check that it is authorized. I don't know if it does this every time its run or maybe once every few days but it just never ends. And what is going to happen to all the users if the company ever goes out of business? this is a ludicrous license system.

Not in my experience. I don't know how many jaws you've authorised, but
I've done at least 50 over the years.

It's tied to your computer hardware. I've deactivated jaws by installing a
new hard drive or optical drive, upgrading video card drivers, and more.
There was even a run of dell vostro laptops that had two video cards, one
for high performance when plugged in and the other for power conservation
when on battery. Guess what happened when customers plugged and unplugged
their laptops? You got it. And don't get me started on what happens to
jaws licences in virtual environments.

Now maybe they have relaxed the licencing to account for some of these
issues. It has been at least four years. Still, it's an issue that cost
vast amounts of time and money in the past.

Best,

Erik

I didn't really mean to get sidetracked, on this, but the case in point is
only one example.

When I go looking for taxis in Welland, it gives me everything but welland
taxi. Just another case in point. This morning I went looking for info on
a Train bootleg, and all I got was Bob Dillan, Pearl Jam, and... well...
not train.

Google also stripped the headings out of it's mobile search, and I'm sure
the number of adds is double what it was even last year.

I'd have to do more checking. perhaps, for some reason, this thread isn't
known to google yet. I did a search for the previous subject line, which
was usable torrent client recommendation followed by nvda and another
search for the same subject line followed by nvdagroups.io to make it more
likely that archive searches would show up early in the results. I found
nothing. but there has been no decline in Google. I use it almost every

I just installed qbittorrent. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the email about
how to make the transfer treeview accessible. I googled it, but only got a
page full of sponsored content and forum posts about nvidia stuff. Google
seems to be less now than it once was. IE, NVDA and NVidia are not the
same thing, sighs.

I can use object navigation to see what's in the tree, but given hundreds
of torrents, looking at each piece of info individually for each one is
possibly not the most efficient way.

Thanks.

I think its the xp version, so not sure either. it alway will be an issue in xp, as its moved on since then, and you cannot use a more modern version of nvda either.

But in terms of files such as audio files like MP3s, in Firefox, once
the

surprised if that is true in Chrome as well.

Please explain what you want to do in detail so people can address it.

You may want to live in the technological past indefinitely but you

concerned, you can't avoid updates because Chrome automatically
updates.
But
that doesn't matter in your case. You use XP and Google Chrome, the

addition,
the settings, or almost all of them, I haven't checked every one, are
accessible, or at least can be worked with. You have to do certain
things
to be able to work with some of them such as manually turn off and on
browse

difference between accessibility and usability and a lot of programs
are
very usable, even though not fully accessible. Chrome is largely
accessible
and is very usable, though not completely everything is. But it's
usable
enough so that almost everything desired can be done except in the case

I'm going into all this mainly because your message may, if not

reasonably accessible and quite usable.

As far as playing audio files, Chrome does play audio. I don't know if
it
plays what you are trying to play. I don't know what you are having
problems with but please don't state things as though they are facts

Yeah they told me that. But their systems right now are 32 bit They think that switching to 64 bit will help. I really hope that they can some time use computers that are not processer intensive like mine. Mine is an i7 or maybe an i5 with speeds of I think 6ghz. I would think dragon could run smoothly on that with nvda, maybe. Although lugging that to work would be a pain in the back side, not somethingn I would infact enjoy as this thign is about 8 pounds.

Hello. I applied for and almost got the job for being a caption call agent. The problem is this. what ever tools they use once dragon starts to read back what I said, the system chokes and the screen readers start to stutter and the computers freeze. I suggested NVDA but I believe this even happens there. is there someone with dragon that would be able to test all of this? maybe someone who could work with me and caption call as I'm working with their HR department. They said they have to go according to what goes with the memory of their systems which right now are 32 bit. what should I tell them in order for them to be on the right track. I even recommended some non nvda tools such as Jaws and JSay but I want to promote NVDA at my job in case they don't want to or can't use jaws. Is there someone who might be able to do an add on, or something I can do to make dragon work better than it is now? I know the issues they are talking about as I'be seen this happen on all the platforms. if need be I can ask them to contact who ever would be able to help. For those interested go to captioncall.com and maybe contact their HR department. See if you can get in touch with them and explain what to do as I want to give this a try and see if this can indeed be done.

Take care all.

Well for students and some enterprise businesses I think its to stop
people unknowingly load a virus on your system.

And if nothing can install itself hopefully no one can get in.

An admin probably could but even so.

For standard users that control things that hopefully will not be a problem.

Well unless its windows 10, which I find hard to believe, it has to be something welse, I know that sounds bloomin obvious, but it might be worth asking one of the devs who lives in your part of the world. i could tell you to do some pings, but I'm really not sure how the download server is allocated geographically.

I'm not sure if this thread subject name is still part of the same actual problem reported.
The issue with next updates is that the download and install code changed meaning that the only way to continue to get updates that will work is to manually update it so the new code is in the working version.

Can you explain how you'd revert back from a portable copy? my copy of the next snap failed to update yesterday. Thanks.

My answer nowadays is to use the next snap, and use master as my installed copy. As long as you have a portable copy of the release version you can always revert back.
That way the updates arrive automatically via the snap internal downloader for both versions as Next now no longer uses the browser to download new versions.

Hi guys

is the servers playing up? For the last couple of days i have been trying to download a master snapshot and each time it comes down it is only about 540k. Is the server playing up? for when i go to click on it up comes a security smart screen I think it is the windows one.

I am also wondering if things have changed like it is a stub then it gets the main file? I am guessing not.

I usually like once a week to see what might of gone into it each week.

Has any one else had the same problems?

This was doing it from inside of the master snapshot under the help section.

I have also tried it from the main page and still got the same results.

This was again on feb 18th and also tried on the 17th

I just use a private tracker. No google searches here.

Anyway, by all means this thread can continue, but I got Utorrent working to my satisfaction, thanks to the suggestion about altering a whole bunch of flags, hidden deep within the settings.

You need to be very careful of torrent software it can intervene in searches by using something called conduit, which as the name suggests adds commercial content to any search you do anywhere. You need to check for this or similar with malware programs.

Thanks.

I would feel more comfortable with a different client altogether. Of
course, I am looking for one that is very configurable and which plays
nice with NVDA. Have you fine folks any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Giving up on CodeFactory voices in NVDA

I'm assured we can, but I'm no expert.
I actually like Espeak Quincy voice for my screenreading use but some of the old faithful in the old speech platform like Hazel for reading documents, but with a lot of dictionary entries to fix stuff works quite well. What I do not like about Microsoft synths in general is the USA centric expansion of abbreviations.

Hello!

You know, I have had it with this CodeFactory thing of deactivating
constantly. I checked out one of the Microsoft voices they have in NVDA and
this voice is not too bad; it is not as clear as Eloquence or the Vocalizer
Expressive voices, but it is a little better than the standard NVDA voice in
my opinion. I think CodeFactory could make this program permanent with NVDA
as it is with other screen readers. They end up making the program far too
much trouble to use in NVDA than it is worth. I'll just eat the cost
because I don't expect them to do anything about the crazy requirements for
using the voices. I'll thkink twice before I purchase such software in the
future.

Can we use any other Microsoft voices that windows offers? If so, how do we
do it?

The fact is that the older version of adobe reader is very hard to find now to download. I'm not sure if it does Persian either.
My experience in the language area is small.

I personally feel Zara needs to try to obtain a machine which at least can run windows 7 now as the problems will not be solved for older operating systems by any software maker. No I don't like it but its the way the world according to Miccrosoft is and we have to live in it.

Hello,
Why don't you use Adobe Acrobat Reader for offline PDF reading? It should read any language.
Google Chrome, plays movies and audio very well and to jump to the built-in download manager use F6 to open downloaded files.
