Re: creating filters in gmail

Rosemarie,

I could try describing this step-by-step, but a lot of people before me have already done so, and quite well.  Take a look at the results of this DuckDuckGo search on "creating filters in gmail".   One of the top 10 results will likely be in a format that you find easiest to use.

It's not complicated once you've done a single filter and if you pay attention on the filter creation screen to the range of options you have as far as what can be looked at in a message itself to create a filter.  If you want to just give it a shot you will have to log in to Gmail, go to your Settings, and choose the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" link, then the "Create a new filter" link.  Once you have existing filters those will appear in a list at the top of the Filters and Blocked Addresses page.  Most of the filters I end up creating are on the "From:" field in an e-mail message.  You do not need a full e-mail address, just something that will match some subset of what comes in.  For instance, I have a filter that looks to see if "digestnoreply@groups.io" is in the From: field and assigns a label of "IO Digest" to those messages.  I can then click on that label when I'm in my inbox to limit display to strictly those messages.  If you're using an e-mail client with Gmail, a label propagates out as an IMAP folder by the same name as the label, and clicking on that folder gets you only the messages that filter into it.

Re: mute a thread

Dang,

If you are speaking of muting a thread via e-mail, I know of no way to do this unless you have access to an individual e-mail message from a thread or a daily digest containing at least one message from a thread.  In either of those cases there is always a link just below the message content itself that allows you to mute that thread by activating it.

If you are willing to log in to the groups.io site and use the "Your Groups" dropdown at the top of the page and select the "Your Subscriptions" item you are taken to a screen where you have constant access to all messages in all the groups you subscribe to, messages you've muted, messages you've followed and to hashtags that you've muted or hashtags you've followed.  Messages that are muted can be unmuted and vice versa in this page of the web interface.

Subject: [nvda] Nvda and the combibraille/braillewindow display

Hi,

I am using a Combibraille brailledisplay with Nvda. This display is
also called a Braillewindow.
It is an verry old display and can only be connected by using a
serial connection, so I use a usb to serial converter and Brltty to
get this display working.
The problem in Nvda is, dat the keys on the display are not working.
When I use Brltty in debug mode, I can see, that the keys are
working for Brltty, but Nvda will not recognize these.
is there a trick so I can also use the keys on this display? That
would be verry nice.

Kind regards, Marten

This is only strictly, not functionally, true.

POP3 used filters on the client side because that's where all processing of that type takes place.  A POP server is nothing more than an electronic message passer and messages are removed from the server only when any single device that has access to the account in question deletes a message.  That message deletion does not synchronize with any other devices that might also have been downloading mail as well. This makes it a nightmare when you want to be accessing your e-mail from multiple devices and only dealing with any single message once.

IMAP is the precise opposite.  All heavy-duty processing, including filtering, occurs on the server side.  Multiple devices can access the messages like they can under POP, but the filtering is done before they are accessed and the folders that result from filtering are propagated out to the devices along with the messages.  If a message is deleted from one device that deletion is also propagated out to all other devices so that any given message can be handled once and if deleted not be seen again on your other devices.

I have never understood why Gmail decided to use the artificial construct of "labels" for its web-based interface.  These labels are implemented as IMAP folders, and all the world (that used them, anyway) was accustomed to the idea of folders.  When you have a Gmail account being used in e-mail clients the various labels you've defined show up as folders as soon as the first message arrives that gets filtered in to that folder.  The difference is that you assign the filters on the server side, not the client side.

hi Joseph,

I will write a mail to Jamie.

I don't think Tieman can help or want to help. Tieman is now Optelec. There
e-mail address is info@optelec.nl

I have found, that Libbraille also has support for the combibraille
http://libbraille.org/display.php Maybe you can find something there?
On www.libbraille.org I have seen, that it is software that supports more
displays and has source code for different languages including Python.

Regards, Marten

Hi,
In order to "unlock" the keys on these displays, NV Access will need
to take a look at one of these displays and write a native NVDA

NVDA functions, hence this issue.

Re: greeting from LAO PDR and want to discuss for the quickbook

Hello,
I use QB 2015 with the latest NVDA.

Something that is really annoying me right now and that I would like to get fixed ASAP is when I import transactions into quickbooks, the whole process is silent.
Importing transactions is about 100 times faster than manually entering transactions, so there is no way in the world that I could ever compete with a sighted person using quickbooks without the import feature.
I am having my fiance basically do my work for me because all she needs to do is click on an account for each transaction and it takes us around 10 minutes to enter 40 transactions. Most of that time is spent talking.
So I desperately would like to know what to do to get this part of the scripts developed.
Thank you,

Re: does NVDA work with the Edge browser in Win10

Hi Matthew, To activate windows10 go to settings by pressing windows key I, then to update & security. under that category when going down you will find a choice called activate. There will be different instructions you can use to activate windows there.
