Re: NVDA doesn't work with bandcamp web site

Jonathan COHN

I used the browsers developer tools. I basically right clicked on the button and found the inspect item in the contextual menu. Another useful tool in seeing what is going on with NVDDA is to use the NVDA-F1 to view the NVDA Object(s) internals that NVDA uses. That is how I discovered that NVDA did not think the button was focusable.

Second HTML object pretending to be a button, the web developer needs to enable actions when non-mouse actions occur. I expected that when the navigator was on the play/stop button that a nvda-enter command would have caused a mouse click on the location of the navigator cursor, but it does not, so the only way NVDA can activate this button is by moving the mouse to the bbutton with NVDA-numapad-slash followed by a numpad-slash to actually press the left mouse button.

It is quite sad that the developer knew enough accessibility to configure things so a screen reader thinks the graphic with a mouse action is a Play button but then does not go the additional path to adding appropriate handlers so it is can take focus and respond to key actions. Of course if the web developer had just used an HTML <button> tag, then since this is a html type that the browser and screen readers know what to do with, everything would have worked with all disabilities with no additional work. Perhaps they didn't want the buttons to be in the tab sequence.

Very interesting. I've been learning a little about this stuff. Did you look at the source? Since I use bandcamp a fair amount myself and am slowly migrating more and more toward nVDA from JAWS (as I can no longer upgrade the latter), it seems worthwhile to contact Bandcamp about this, after all, even though it's not all that much trouble to get the "button" (in quotes) to work with NVDA.

Alas, I don't know. But were you able to get the method described working with NVDA? It's only one extra keystroke, after all. It would be interesting to know why JAWS 18 does pick this up as a standard button you can toggle with space, though, while NVDA doesn't.

This procedure or other procedures than just using space bar or enter

It often works or other methods may work when the first preferred

Maybe needs some kind of special nav mode in nvda for this type of

I could not get it to play in google chrome.

Yeah, I'm noticing the same thing, and am stuck.
It is working with JAWS 18.
On my old machine I could never get the bandcamp player to play
either.

If there's no solution to this, we should probably bring this up
with Bandcamp support.

More info.
When I try to focus the play button by navigating with object
review or document review mode, nvda reports "off screen"
I'm pretty novice at these review modes so can someone tell me
what's going on here, and what I may be able to do to fix this?
I'm thinking of releasing some of my music on bandcamp, but not if

This procedure or other procedures than just using space bar or enter on

Maybe needs some kind of special nav mode in nvda for this type of

I have had limited success in Firefox. The way I got it to work was by
selecting the button and tapping on my touchpad. I could not get any
keyboard commands to work. It may be user error, but only the tap on
the mousepad was repeatable.

I could not get it to play in google chrome.

It doesn't actually sound all that serious to me. And I think they've already patched it. I only use a couple of private trackers anyway. Think I'll just stuck to the Mu, now that I'm finally happy with the way it's working. Let us know if you have any better luck with Qbittorrent.

For example, I downloaded something, but I can't find the file on the screen to do anything with it, e.g. see how far the download is, delete the file/torrent if I don't want it anymore, and so on. I managed to get through the options, although a warning, if you get into advanced you'll get stuck, I can't see any way back to the tree and the OK button and so on. I mean I got it to work as a thing that will open and download torrents which is OK I guess, but I'd like a little more control, if this thing is supposedly accessible. Right now I have no idea how to tell it to get rid of a torrent, or to stop seeding it, or get rid of the files associated with it, see the download speed and progress, you know, the kinds of things you typically want to do with torrents.

Re: Windows 10 Weather Ap Inquiry

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi it seems when you press the enter key or space bar on the historical tab it will give you 2 options. One been for rain fall and the other for temperature.

Depending which one you chose say the rain one then you would hear the rain fall for each month or if you chose the temp one you would hear it for each month.

I would have to get some one to see if there is any more than that that NVDA might not be able to see.

It is different to the 10 day for cast where you can go through the days.

I think i had done a audio tutorial or was it a written one on the weather app on my nvda tutorials for other programs page.

Since the steady improvement of the Windows 10 Ap Essentials, I have been experimenting with some of the aps.  I see there is an interesting Historical tab for the weather ap.  I am wondering if the ap itself shows daily highs and lows for temperature, daily average rainfall and so on.  I can activate the panel for average monthly items, but when I click on the button to see if it can be expanded for daily items, nothing happens.  Is this a bug or is there something I am missing here?

Thanks for any help.

But object navigation? Not flat navigation.

However, for example, as an starting point, locate with "tab" the "state" verification box, move the object navigator to the previows object with NVDA numpad 4 (or the equivalent in laptop mode) move the object navigator to the first child object with NVDA numpad 2, move to the next object with NVDA numpad 6 until you arribe to the tree, move the navigator with NVDA numpad 2 and explore it with previows and next object.

Note that in the latest next branch the navigator fail in the tree, but it works in the latest stable version (I don't know in RC).
